Absolutely beautiful work, I'm from England & I think it's so great to see a guy in the USA keeping the tradition of crook making alive.

Ian seems like a really cool guy. He's a good teacher very easy to listen to.I'm just starting out with simple walking sticks. I had never thought to straighten them .......that was an awesome tip.

Mask up bro . There are people who get influenced by you so encouraging safety is the responsibility of the artist . Good luck and God bless you and your family. Lee

Thanks Ken It was just that I have heard and read stories and was concerned that Ian is such a good craftsman, I would hate to see him not make lots more videos as I am just starting out with lots of ideas for sticks, and its always better to be shown than reading. Thanks for replying so soon.

I have worked with that purple wood and you do need to use a filter. To breath in that dust is nuts.

Pretty...but what stops the crook from breaking across the grain? I couldn't imagine that would actually hold an irate ram or sheep. I would think steaming and bending branches and then shaping them would be just as beautiful and FAR more utilitarian

I make canes myself but mostly ones with natural handles though I have made a few derby handles. I do however de-bark all my sticks. I just like the look.

Hello Ian, I was looking up videos on you tube of walking sticks and canes, and came across this videos of yours. My Dad had knee surgery about a year ago and I am interested in making him a nice cane/ walking stick. I was wondering did you purchase the templates for canes or did you design and draw them yourself? If you drew them, would you be willing to make copies of them for me to purchase from you? Your work is very Beautiful and You have inspired me to try my my hand at it. Thank You for this wonderful video!!

The amount of dust coming off those sanders and your Dremel, you need an extractor or at least a mask! You'll end up with lungs like lace curtains otherwise! Nice sticks but not if they wreck your chest!

+edward charles , Ian does wear a respirator when he carves, but took it off so he could talk during the video.
