It's the Eye of the Beholder And I didn't like it I could see the twist coming from a mile When they first show the leader It's for an oddly short time And an uncreative title's The Eye of the Beholder Watching the video made me realize there's actually a lot of impressive stuff about it like the fish bowl thing and how well they hid everyone's faces, but the fact I could tell how it would end from the very beginning really made it hard to enjoy when I watched it. Of course it's gonna end with her looking normal and everyone else looking like a monster. Why else would their faces be hidden away?

One of the first few times I attended Dragon Con, there was a group of "Eye of the Beholder" doctors and nurses cosplayers handing out their cards, telling folks that were there to help repair their deformities. It was one of the most unique group cosplays I've seen and it's been a very happy memory for me

Just to fill in these questions, i heard back in the 70's with a production staff from TWZ, that originally the explanation is that there was a nuclear war and everyone mutated except for a few who escaped the carnage and were still normal by our standards But the reason it was never used because, Rod did not want to over complicate the story when there probably no time to spend dueling on that subject. What i never understood is why Donna acts like she has never seen these people before, she is acting like typical 1930's horror actress who sees something horrible and screams and is shocked.

This is undoubtedly a classic episode, especially considering that you can't see anyone's faces for most of the screentime. Nowadays, contemporary audiences would catch on earlier that something is amiss about the staff's appearances, given that everything is deliberately obscured, or in shadow.

It is in doubt. A child can anticipate the twist from the get go. Really good direction or writing should tell the story entirely from the patient's point of view, her thoughts and inner monolgues, never show anyone else in the scenes until the very end. Of course it would make it more _difficult,_ but it would also be harder to predict the twist.

The performances in this episode are so powerful that it never fails to bring tears to my eyes, especially when Janet is describing her grief over her appearance. It’s utterly heartbreaking, and in my opinion, what makes this episode even more effective than the twist.

Finally, one of the episodes I actually watched before. Personally, even with the obscuring camera angles and intense shadows, I didn't see the twist coming. Introducing a world where our notions of attractiveness are considered ugly was a brilliant premise. Honestly, I feel "Eye of the Beholder" is relevant today where purely aesthetic plastic surgery is encouraged, lotions that lighten women of color's skins are sold, and advertisements of "attractive" people are constantly in our faces. We really do need to stop expecting our neighbors to emulate supermodels.

This episode was remade for the 2002 series. I remember thinking they missed an opportunity to update it. It was basically a shot-for-shot remake and they even used the same makeup for the faces at the end. But it would have been cooler and, I think, deeper if instead the reveal of the doctor’s face showed a handsome, if slightly androgynous, face. But then the camera pans over to the nurse, the orderlies, etc and you see that everyone has the SAME face.

The twist blew my mind when I saw it for the first time. However, my question still remains- What did the surgeons do? If they were trying to give her a pig face, they were horrible at their jobs. Also, why did they think the procedure "worked" before the bandages were removed? They should've known her face wouldn't magically transform. It had to be done by THEM. This is the first episode of The Tilight Zone I ever saw. Ironically it was shown by my English teacher and the class next door. I was in middle school then. I think this was the perfect episode to show middle school aged kids. Beauty is only considered as beautiful as society chooses to see it. By that standard anything could be considered beautiful if enough people believe it.

This is the episode that nearly made me kill my friend Rick's Uncle Rudy. I'd been invited to his house for a family party on New Year's Eve, and some of us were chilling in the living room watching some of the Sci-Fi Channel's (as it was spelled then) TZ marathon. This one was running, and Rick said he'd never seen it. I was all pumped to see his reaction at the big reveal...then, only minutes before it was to take place, Uncle Rudy, who'd had a few, walked in, saw the screen, and said, "Oh, I know this one. She's really beautiful and everyone else is really ugly!"

The twist really should of been obvious from the title and the fact that they never show anyone's face for the majority of the episode... but some how the acting is so good here I never even noticed how the faces were hidden on the first viewing. Hindsight is 20/20.

One of my favorite episodes of the series. It could probably serve as a sequel to a Season 5 episode, at least that's what i always felt from this one. If anyone wants to see another version of this story, Go check out Beyond Belief Fact or Fiction's "Mirror of Truth". While it's not as brilliant and amazing as this episode, i still think it's a pretty incredible story that takes "Eye of the Beyonder" in a different light.

When I first saw this episode when I was 13, I was lucky enough to not know the twist, and seeing it for the first time really caught me off guard. Wonder what it was like when people saw this when it first aired. I am probably one of the very few fans who doesn't have this episode included in their favorites, but it is undeniably a classic.

When I was a child, whenever my dad told me about his favorite show of his youth (Twilight Zone), he always talked about this very episode. He was so enthusiastic about talking about this episode that I already had a very clear mental image of the episode long before we were able to find a copy of the episode. The twist was so incredible even for a young child. I didn't even need to know about the Hitler references; just the idea of a world demanding conformity and the concept of a subjective view of beauty.

I remember catching this episode one night, and though I guessed the twist fairly early, it was expertly handled and written.

When I first saw this episode, as a young teenager, I loved the twist. Then, for a few times during the episode's rotation in reruns, I skipped it, because I already knew the conclusion. When I finally returned to it, I had forgotten that it was as much about soul-crushing dictatorships as about anything else. And then, the next time, I paid attention to the great compassion of the hospital staff and, especially, of Mr. Smith: they are all on her side, helping her to adjust more fully to a world of oppression and tyranny.
