Eye of the coach: "It's more difficult for Alcaraz to be dominant indoors than outdoors"

For many years now I’m sharing my point of view on international tennis for tennismajors.com. Now I’m happy to share also this analysis with you on my KZbin channel.
Today, I’m talking about the reasons why Carlos Alcaraz's natural dominant game is tempered when he’s playing indoors. I think that the Spaniard is better at dealing with tricky outside conditions than most other players.
The quality of Alcaraz’s athleticism, power and feel mean he feels comfortable outdoors. Being indoors takes away that particular asset that he benefits from when he’s outside.
But I think there is no objective reason for Alcaraz not to play great tennis indoors. The indoor season is very short, so he needs to get used to that surface more than other players.

Grew up in New England so playing indoors was a must. You have to get used to the lighting, sounds, and background. Our indoor courts were HarTru incredibly enough.

I tell you the reason why he struggles indoors. He hits his forehand too high over the net while others like Sinner, Medvedev, Rune, Djokovic hit it flatter and can be more aggressive on a fast indoor surface. Nadal had the same problem which is the reason he never won an ATP tour finals.

He was quite dominant against Rublev today, hope it gives him confidence for the next match.

Patrick can you talk a bit a bout the court speed? I remember Carlos complaining about that in the last finals. Thanks for the videos!

He grew up on clay courts, and his coach trains him on clay courts in Spain. This is why they should train him on hard courts a few months in a year

Ironic this came out about 15 minutes before a dominant Carlos Alcaraz just crushed Rublev at the ATP Finals.7-5 6-2. Carlos is adaptive, for sure! Vamos!🎉

beating rublev (one dimensional baseliner, lackluster serve, mediocre backhand, not a great mover) isn't exactly something to be extremely content with, especially given someone with the expectations of alcaraz as a multi slam winner

Nadal had many victories in the ATP Finals, but never dominated to the point of winning it.

But let be honest Rublev is not Sinner or Medvedev. Andrey has not the same level of talent or not some single department when he can dominate the top opponent maybe I guess and also more 1-layered player. Rublev has problems playing with many top players. That's also why he has problem getting past QF at Grand Slams.. And also quite easy the game of Rublev can collapse and Rublev can be overemotional.

He's very adaptive but to put him in the league of Djokovic or even Federer in that department is a bit much. He's still young so he may outdo them, particularly Federer, in time. But he has not done so yet

Don t agree. Think that adaptation on grass is more difficult for him as on indoors. Now his level dropped a bit due to injuries? In future you will see great indoor results as well.....

Nadal's one and only title at Indoor/Hard was in year 2005. Madrid. He is the best example of this😅 Medvedev is the opposite, his only clay title was in Rome this year. He did it finally One prefer dust, wind, sun, etc... while other hate it It is hardest to make a real universal one. Yeah, it is true that Alcaraz, so far, have 0 titles Indoor... if that means "struggling indoor" then OK 😊

Alcaraz actually started the match vs novak playing brilliant tennis on serve, returns, attacking play but he is not used to the speed of this surface though he played really well at times. novak was clutch and definitely has VAST experience playing in these conditions. plus novaks serve and forehand is even more effective on faster surfaces now. Alcaraz has a huge serve himself and his technique is much better than nadal indoors. the only exception for nadal on fast indoor hard as you said was 2005 Madrid and 2019 davis cup finals also at Madrid when he served and played exceptional indoor tennis, but thats it. Alcaraz will be much more successful indoors. he had 10 aces and 22 winners but also hit a lot of errors, because he couldn't control his shots, but its a process. he will get better

Spaniards live outdoors as we have a sunny country. And we prefer to play any sport outdoors. I guess it's the opposite for northern players. Sinner is a guy from the Alps, I don't know much about his younger relationship with tennis but I guess he played often indoors when he was younger.
@z1az285
@z1az285 9 ай бұрын
@@juanv5375 That makes sense, plus the wrong assumption that spanish players are only good on clay and nothing else is rubbish. yes, that may have been the case in the 1980s but not since the mid to late 90s when the next generation started playing a lot more on hard (alex corretja, juan carlos, moya and others). nadal actually like grass and hard more in his junior days and carlos best surface is medium to medium fast hard, without question.

What do you mean he probably doesn't have experience It's only his second year on tour. He's probably played less than seven indoor tournaments ever and he's in the final for the first time and he's the youngest person since Nadal in 2006. I think people just need to get off his case and let him play tennis and stop making rash opinions. You want to Grand slam this year nobody else in the comment section or this dummy has done that.

Alcaraz's performance weakened, level of his tennis a little dropped. Not so powerful at the moment. Nothing to do with indoor or outdoor imo. He had several injuries in the last 3-4 month, probably this was the main factor.
