Nice vid Steve and something to ponder - do a follow up using trackman, hit a few with your own swing, then a few with this swing and compare the data for us, to see if there's an increase in distance?

Bryson has a teaching video on this point, He describes the upper arm rotation differently in this one. The LU Arm is internally rotated, but the RU arm is fully externally rotated. (not internally rotated) see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGGQloyciq5lprs He does pass over this the description of the RU arm very quickly but he does say fully externally rotated.. With the lower right arm internally rotated, So his left arm is internal-external and the right arm is external-internal. Hope you don't mind me pointing this out.

That makes more sense. With lead internal and trail arm external, then it locks both forearm with an end range of motion that can never miss left.

Hi Steve another great video. Looking at Bryson's video on his YT channel (at 3:18) with his right arm he goes external with the upper arm to lock it in and internal with his wrist. I tried this at the weekend and was hitting the ball much cleaner and could get a good range of motion! Sadly I do not have his power :-( few do! but it is good trying different techniques.

I have used an “opposing” grip on my putter for a while to keep my hands quiet during the stroke. I roll my hands outward near completely before I take my grip. It takes a little getting used to but after a while it is second nature. It does keep the hands very quiet and keep the confidence high that the club face stays neutral suing the putt.
@jimwocha49492 жыл бұрын
Got to try this Steve. Of course you need to do another one now with driver!
@h67driver2 жыл бұрын
The way you explained it is not exactly like Bryson did. Like two other comments on here have said, the upper arm on the right is external and the lower is internal. So basically as you address the ball both upper arms are to the right and both lowers arms are to the left.

From his latest video, part 1, I got the impression he grips the right hand with the shoulder fully ER and forearm fully IR -- the opposite to the left. I think that's so can he get more right shoulder ER/flying right elbow at the top. That's maybe why you couldn't fully release it. Maybe the left shoulder IR is enough for the consistency?

You are correct. The right elbow points toward the body instead of away from the target.

I followed Bryson's front left arm setup and it fix my slice issue and I even hook it now. I think the reason is that the left elbow are point to the front left position of target in relax state. By point the elbow to the target, it will slightly close the club face upon the impact and thus fix my slice issues. Bryson's upper body is much stronger than most of us and I see the reason why he setup like this, his arm is also point more outward when using the driver which give him more room to swing.

Think what is missing is some people’s wrist naturally rotate externally, so their upper arm would rotate internal. Others are opposite. Some are neutral The brilliant fitter and club maker David Edel focuses on this in describing why some cover more steeply and others sweep; some putt straight back and through and others need toe hang for door like face rotation. Bryson does say in his KZbin video to experiment what feels natural and works best

Most tour pros have this position. It takes the stress off the elbow because the stress is on a vector through the angle the lead elbow flexes. Hogan supposedly told John Schlee to square up the clubface via upper lead arm external rotation. But he never did this even before his car accident. I think he circled to the left and connected the upper armpit so much it forced the face to close without any manipulation of the left upper arm.

You can do the "opposite". Externally rotate the upper arm and internally rotate the hands or lower arm giving you the more conventional "wringing the towel" feel to stabilize the grip and by definition the clubhead.
@josephwirtz83522 жыл бұрын
For about 3 weeks I’ve been externally rotating my upper trail arm and internally rotating it’s forearm to grip club. I’ve not done any rotating with the lead arm. This has eliminated my two sided miss and made me much more consistent…so, there is something to this.
@mikewilliams14792 жыл бұрын

Didn’t Faldo used to lock his arms to his body. This meant his body was more in control of the swing than his arms.
@salihalexanderesq.2243 Жыл бұрын
This is NOT what Bryson said. My understanding is that the lead left arm is internally rotated at the elbow (elbow at target) and slightly external at the wrist, while the trail (right) arm is external at the elbow and slightly internal at the wrist.
@steveking21442 жыл бұрын
If this works good for the full swing, would this technique be good for the short game? My feeling is no since often there is wrist action for various kinds of pitches etc. I get the feeling if you used this for the short game you'd basically be doing low run up shots and not shots with much height.
@ukejon2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting....but not something I can do. Nevertheless, love what Bryson is bringing to the game.....all good.
@apaulmcdonough21702 жыл бұрын
While the Arm Rotations of "External" and "Internal" are Correct Nomenclature, The Forearms Do NOT "Rotate Externally and Internally." The Forearms SUPINATE - Palm turning Upwards - (the "E R" spoken of) and PRONATE - Palm turning Downwards - (the "I R" spoken of).
@mikewilliams14792 жыл бұрын
I tried "Opposing Forces" as Bryson speaks about and it immediately made my grip weaker. It's feels messed up but when I comes to the shorter clubs I wads surprised how much it made my pitch shorts repeatable. Update: Pitch shots are low missiles. Dialing in yardages made easier. But to make it easier on my brain I had to lengthen my wedges to PW length. All wedges one length is friggin amazing!

Check the method out and what Tiger, Trevino, Peter Jacobson and other top players said about Moe Norman. I find isolating the lead bicep and rotating the forearm let's me swing through the ball as fast as I want and the club stays square forever. Love your bids and Eureka Golf. Keep at it. Don't know about the forearms in this. I get the upper torso/arm connection, but my problem is squaring the clubface at impact. I'm a big guy with a neutral grip and mildly stiff swing to begin with. I tried this swing at home and consistenlty had the clubface in an open position thru the swing.
