One of the biggest benefits of an "eyeline mirror" happens while the alignment stick is still in place & pointing towards the target. Finding that "spot" where your eyes will be when, while addressing the ball with putter behind it (square to target line), & you then look down the line & the alignment stick STILL POINTS AT THE TARGET. This position will be different from person to person. Find yours (proper eye position) & now you can PRACTICE setting your eyes in that position by using the mirror.

I agree with the eye being in the right spot for you When I found my spot my putting started to improve Where these putting mirrors really help I think is in purity of strike They get you hitting the ball with the putter head that little bit higher off the ground generating more pure putts

Eye position is so huge. I went from having my eyes over the ball as a lot of people say to do…to stepping back and now my eye line is inside the ball by a good 5-6 inches. Now when I look up at the hole I see the line much better/truer! Helped so so much, specially with those 10 foot and inside putts.

Awsome to hear this!! You can’t believe how much of an effect it has

I personally have found that going with a shorter putter length, 33" vs 34 or 35 helped me get in that position where my eye line is much more down the proper path.. I often wonder how many other people use the wrong length which puts them much further away.. Something I picked up after watching Patrick Cantlay who also uses a 33" putter, and he's much taller than me only being 5'7".

I get the eye position but ive never been able to marry up my eye line and shoulder line up on the mirror.
@plusfour1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this. I just bought a putting mirror today and I have been hearing that you need to have your eyes right over the ball. I also could see that my shoulders were open which is something I've probably been doing for 45 years. Now, when I square my shoulders and eyes and move my eyes right over the line, I am very uncomfortable and feel like I'm putting behind myself. Now, I tend to think that as long as the putter head path is square to the target I'm fine. I also need to be seeing the target line as going at the target as you say. Because if the target line doesn't look right, I will subconsciously try to correct it as I stroke the putt.

As was touched on the video, that's what the alignment stick was for: Aim the alignment stick straight toward the target & the eyeline mirror as well. Then: you position the putter behind the ball with the face square to the target line. THEN: You position your eyes, and this is the important part, WHEREVER THEY APPEAR IN THE MIRROR SO THAT WHEN YOU LOOK DOWN THE LINE, THE ALIGNMENT STICK STILL AIMS AT THE TARGET. (That's the "eye position" on the mirror that is going to work best for YOU. As touched on in the video, the exact position of the eyes in the mirror WILL BE DIFFERENT from person to person. Most mirrors also have a line for "shoulder alignment". Once you have found the "eye position" that ensures that you have the ability to "see the line" straight to the target & learn to "feel" the shoulders square to that line (which you can SEE [square shoulders] in the mirror), it becomes a matter of taking the putter away (back) & returning it to the ball, square faced to the target line. The only issue from that point on is whether the putter comes to the ball "from the inside", "outside", or does it swing "straight back & straight through". At this point, the only issue is that anything other than "straight back & straight through" runs the risk of putting unwanted spin (sideways rotation) on the ball. ("hook spin" or "slice spin"...which will curve the ball) Yes ...with the best putters, you see their "line on the ball" rolling exactly end over end. (No spin at all) I hope this explaination helps. The major point: Where your eyes should be in the mirror, DIFFERS from person to person & is reliant on that alignment stick STILL POINTING AT THE TARGET WHEN YOU LOOK DOWN THE LINE. Find your "eye position" ...off & running making more putts!

@@randycooper3940 Thanks, I've got it working now. Funny thing was, on day 2 my shoulders were aligned without even trying and by day 4, I've found that I can see the alignment stick pointing directly at the target with my dominant eye (left) right over the line over the back of the ball. It just took a little persistence and learning. It's much more comfortable now.
@randycooper3940 Жыл бұрын
@@plusfour1 That's terrific. I occasionally am asked to give a lesson. I always tell people that if there are any changes to be made, it will not be "comfortable" because whatever they might need to change ...is! (They have become "comfortable" doing it ..wrong(?)) That's the nature of making changes ...it's not easy to change from what has already become a "comfortable" (grooved) swing. It's difficult. It's good that you have found what works. Good luck & good golf!

Hi Alex, wow! I’ve never heard of anyone using a mirror after 40 years of playing golf. I’ll definitely be looking at buying one just to see where I can improve my putting. Thank you so much for this one. How did you find it as you mentioned it did feel a bit uncomfortable? 👍😎🇦🇺

Is this why the line on the ball always looks like it's pointing left when I get over the ball?
