✅ About Keratoconus
Keratoconus (ker-uh-toe-KOH-nus) occurs when your cornea (the clear, dome-shaped front surface of your eye) thins and gradually bulges outward into a cone shape.
✅ Latest Treatments of Keratoconus:
1. TCAT with C3R: Topoguided Custom Ablation Treatment with Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking with Riboflavin
👉 It is preferred when the corneal thickness is more than 450 microns.
2. TREK with C3R: Topoguided Removal of Corneal Epithelium for Keratoconus with Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking with Riboflavin
👉 It is preferred when the corneal thickness is less than 450 microns.
3. Simple C3R (PTK with C3R): Phototherapeutic Keratectomy with Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking with Riboflavin
👉 It is preferred when patient's Keratoconus is not that severe. Patient's vision is okay with glasses and contact lens.
✅ These latest treatments for Keratoconus have two major advantages:
1. Keratoconus is stabilized (using C3R)
2. They also smooths the corneal surface before C3R that reduces the Keratoconus symptoms like halos, glares, shadows, and double vision and hence enables Keratoconus Patients to see more clearly with glasses than ever before.
⚠️ Most Important Information:
These procedures are NOT a Specs Removal Surgery for Keratoconus Patients, they can only reduce some Keratoconus symptoms like halos, glares, shadows, and double vision. The patient will still be required to wear glasses or hard contact lenses to see clearly.
To completely get rid of the glassed or hard contact lenses,
Keratoconus patients will require additional treatment such as ICL Lens Implants or Intacs Rings implants after 3-6 months.
