Heavy doors are from highly insulated door construction, and has extremely good seals to keep out heat from outside. The left door is heavier than the right door because of the added weight of the water system and ice maker. The door seal is magnetic to the frame in combination to mechanical. It is also very air tight. This is why the doors are hard to open, and why the fridge maintains the temperature so well. Automatic water dispenser uses a number of photo sensors monitored by a uPC (microprocessor) system using basic AI. If you are holding the glass under the detectors your hand may interfere. If your glass is not within the range of a conventional shape these sensors may not be able to properly detect the water level. This is a complicated system. In the software for this application there are some safety routines to help to prevent over filling of the water, and to stop water flow if there is no glass present. This is a complicated feature. For the rattle. It is important to check the front level adjusters are properly adjusted. If one of them is not adjusted properly to your floor or if it is a bit loose this can cause rattle with an empty fridge of any model. If this is not the case, when your fridge has no items on the shelves with your finger try to tap on the shelves to see if you can hear any type of rattle. If you find a shelf that rattles, you may be able to fix the rattle with using some innovation. You may be able to fix this with a small piece of vinyl tape between two surfaces. Sometimes the glass of the shelf may be a bit loose to the frame holding it. On the back of the shelf where it is mounted in the slats that hold the shelf there may be too much play. A properly placed small pieces of vinyl tape may fix this for you. It will take some doing to figure this out. Also, check the bins in case a bin is causing the rattling. The newer generation of the higher end fridges like the GE Cafe and competitors are using sophisticated sensor systems with AI systems to control temperature and airflow throughout the fridge cavity and the freezer cavity. The temperature and the humidity is very tightly controlled even on the door shelves. This is why the food keeps very well in these fridges. If you want a fridge that will not have a finger print issue take a look at the GE Cafe glass finish fridges. This uses glass sheet on top of the stainless steel. In the US you can have a full size 36 inch wide french door fridge with glass. A new amazing GE Cafe fridge is the quad door full size with the glass finish. This one is among the most flexible systems available, and is probably the best quad door fridge out there for the cost. For keeping the fridge odour free this fridge employs a system of electronic air cleaning. The process used employs no user changeable air filters. It works with very slightly ionizing the air. If you want to add to this there are carbon filter kits that can be bought and mounted inside of the fridge unit on one of the upper side walls using two-way tape. The filter used inside of most of these kits is very common and low in cost. The filter easily slides in and out. It has markings where the date can be checked off. This filter is easily changeable and must be changed every 6 months. Check for the Frigidaire filter type kit. This kit can be bought on line. It uses the same filter type that is used in many brands of fridges. It is more effective than having an open box of baking soda in your fridge that also takes up some space on a shelf. Search for SPUREAIRU PureAir Universal Refrigerator Filter. It uses the same cartridge used by Electrolux, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire. Some decades ago, I was working in appliance servicing. The basics are the same even though the technology has advanced by a lot.

Thanks for the review video. I was looking at the Profile edition and found-out that Cafe was about the same price and if I was already paying this much money on a fridge, why not step it up to the Cafe edition. I love everything about the fridge except for the fingerprint resistant feature not being an option on the stainless steel model. However, on the Matte Black, it is fingerprint free. Even though my kids are all teenagers and young adults, they still have 5 year old dirty fingers. Having the fingerprint resistant feature is nice to have and I can stop nagging them to clean up their dirty finger prints off the fridge door. LOL

Oh, Bianca - I experienced the same issue with inconsistent autofill. A tech told me there are sensors under the top area of the dispenser area, and these are easily "sprayed", throwing off the sensor ability. Just give them a quick wipe. I've not tried it since the tech did it. But no problems since then, about 5 days ago. I use the Autofill a few times each day. I STILL can't believe it gives only 2 glasses of cold water!

You should grab an enviro cloth and a dry cloth from Norwex, easy wiping of fingerprints bacteria and dirt using only water! Keep all those appliances sparkling! I’m ordering the same suite but in the fingerprint proof stainless bc my husband is messy Marvin 😆 ThanQ for the thorough reviews!

Great review. I'm interested in this refrigerator. I went to Best Buy and Homedepot. Homedepot had the Profile model I noticed the doors are different. The door opens on the right side that is frequently used without opening the whole refrigerator, this is a great feature. The Cafe model at Best Buy was beautiful. It is the top of the line. the Platinum glass model. It has no handles which did not include the right-side frequent door opening feature I did have a question that no one seemed to be able to answer. My question is, if the back panel light goes out how do you replace it? I'm thinking the light panel requires a service call. The salesperson said that the panel will probably last longer than the life of the refrigerator My next question is what is the life of the refrigerator and no one knew. This was the best refrigerator with features I was looking for. The light panel seems minor, not major. Again, your review was great. Thank you.

There’s no visible way to remove the panel to see behind it from what I can tell. I’ve heard that the door in door feature for the profile model is somewhat pointless and can sometimes cause the fridge to use more energy in order to cool that area since the door isn’t typically the coldest part of the fridge

I am landlocked in one side of the refrigerator as the wall goes into the other room… I need to know how many ch room I will need to be able to open the door wide enough to be able to slide the drawer out? It looks like you have about 7 inches on one side but I think I can only move the cabinets down about 4 inches…. Will that be sufficient?

I purchased a GE Cafe Fridge couple years ago so it isn't the same model. It unfortunately came with Precise Fill instead of Autofill which is worthless. In my fridge, you still have to push the cradle. I also purchased Hot Water and Keurig options and both are also worthless cause it takes too long to heat the water. It cannot replace a Keurig machine. And the biggest negative is water filters that are expensive.

However, do you experience any issue with the right door not staying open? In other words once you open it, it starts closing? And also, it takes a good push for the right side door to close. My daughter was in the refrigerator and I heard the alarm ringing upstairs, I already knew she probably thought the right door was closed, but in fact it wasn’t. Maybe what you said in the video about the doors being heavy. I’m wondering why the right door doesn’t close easier 🤦🏼‍♂️. I’m also wondering if this is a flaw or something that can be remedied. Yes the right door does start closing on its own and needs to be pushed in to shut all the way. I’ve gotten used to it over time

Thanks for the thorough review. I just bought this fridge with the platinum glass. I love it except for the light in the chiller/flex drawer. It only seems to light the left side of the drawer. Have you noticed the same thing? Or is my fridge missing a light?

The water dispenser on this fridge (I have this identical fridge, but in Matte White) produces only 2 large glasses of cold water, then the temperature of the water being dispensed is the same as tap water. Is any one experiencing this also? This is very different from other fridges I've owned!

We ordered the Samsung Bespoke line and with the Family Hub 4 door French door fridge last year. Long story short, we had to delay delivery due to our remodel nightmare. I guess it’s a blessing in disguise as we found out how bad Samsung kitchen appliances are. Took us a couple of weeks to decide on letting it go and we finally canceled the order completely yesterday. We were looking forward to the family hub feature so much, that it was hard to let it go. But after watching other Cafe line reviews and yours, I’m starting to really fall for it. I see how much everyone loves their Cafe. And the fact that I have not heard of any major issues about on them. Just waiting on our refund from Lowe’s and we’ll be ordering white models.

Hello! I have the profile version but I hope you can answer my question. Does your dispenser light turn on when it senses motion? On my first profile fridge, I turned off the dispenser light so it wouldn’t be on 24/7. But every time I walked by, the light would still turn on and then dim a few seconds later. I had my fridge replaced because it was defective, and now I noticed that this new fridge doesn’t turn on the light when I pass by or when I put a cup under the dispenser, unlike before. Hope I’m making sense and hope to hear from you! Thanks!

I just moved into a new apartment with an older version of the GE Cafe fridge you're reviewing, and it is truly an amazing fridge. I am used to 1980s type fridges...cold rectangle with shelves and a light bulb, freezing rectangle on top, and it won't do anything special, and it comes in white. Or black. This fridge makes me feel like I am living in the 25 century or something! And I am gonna show it off like I normally would show off nice artwork or something I made by hand! The thing is truly amazing, I just hope it's not recording my conversations! :-) Autofill? Cool feature that mine does not have. My guess is just use containers with uniform sides and openings...coffee cup good...wine bottle bad...or just switch to the precise measurement mode for your favorite vessels e.g. put 9.5 ounces in my water bottle!

Why wouldn't you buy the GE Profile version, which is a little cheaper and I believe the stainless steel does not get dirty. Plus, the Profile version has the door in door feature. It appears to me that for a cheaper price you actually get more with the profile and they look VERY similar .

The door in door feature wasn’t important to us and I had heard bad things about that feature such as higher energy usage. We did see the Profile fridge floor model and it definitely felt cheaper and less solid

Hi and thank you for the review! We have seen a few other reviews with this model but so far no one has reviewed the capability of the WiFi and app (SmartHQ). Do you have the app loaded for this refrigerator and if so can you read the actual refrigerator and freezer temperature (not just the setpoint) and have you ever gotten any of the notifications for a high temperature or an extended door opening? The manufacturer states that these functions are available but the reviews we have seen state that the app has not sent notifications and cannot read the actual temperatures. Can you please let me know if you have the app installed and are getting the notifications and can read the actual temperatures? Great reviews and thank you very much!

I connected the Wifi to the app and here are my findings. It does not tell you the actual temp of the fridge, snack drawer, and freezer but only the set points. I did not get a notification when I left the fridge door open until the alarm went off on the door. The app does tell you when the ice bin is full or not, if the water filter is good, and it also allows you to change the brightness on the backlit wall.

@@robhilgert1550 Yes, well kinda, it does allow you to set the temperature of the drawer at a few different "presets" but it does allow for a pretty good range based on what you have in the drawer. I will mention again that this unit does not tell you what the actual temperature is, just the setpoint. We have tried many tests to try and get a notification on the app but the only time we were able to get the notification was when the unit went offline for more than 2 days. We had very elevated temperatures inside of both the refrigerator and the freezer and never got a notification. If you go on vacation and lost power you could have spoiled food without knowing it if the power came back on before you returned. The app is really, really poor, we discussed our concerns with the manufacturer, the only help they offered was a buyback (which we considered but declined). The (false) advertising for this unit states that the unit/app will provide more functions than is available, when we bought the unit the salesman stated that we could monitor the inside temperature and would get notifications if the temperatures were elevated but after some real time tests of highly elevated temperatures for a really extended time frame we never had a notification. In an electronic age that other units have cameras inside to see the food one would have thought that GE would have had an app to provide temperature monitoring, with this unit the compressor could be removed from the unit but as long as it was plugged it it would show that everything is fine. I would note that we had numerous other issues, a very noisy condenser fan and a failed ice maker in the first 8 months. Both were replaced under warranty but we had to wait quite a while with the noise or without ice before the parts came in. My wife bought it for the looks and I'll agree it looks nice but unfortunately we have had nothing but problems and ranks up there with one of our worst purchases.

Because you mentioned how important aesthetics are to you do you regret not buying a counter depth refrigerator? I’m try to decide if it will bother me. I love the Cafe refrigerator and I do see they now have the same refrigerator in counter depth.

I don’t regret it. It’s much larger inside. We wanted to be able to fit a pizza box in it if we needed to so I’m glad we went with this one.

We purchased this refrigerator but issues from day one. Persistent icing on side of refrigerator door. Also refrigerator part will not drop below 40 degrees - tried everything. Sodas exploding in middle drawer. GE service found one fan of 3 not operating but now fixed and middle drawer seems O.k now. So far no fix on icing of freezer door. Looking for feedback of similar issues.

Sorry to hear you’re having issues. I haven’t experienced any major issues. We did have some icing of the freezer door but I think it was from my daughter playing with the freezer and it wasn’t closed properly. Does your make a sound as if it’s sealing itself shut when you close the freezer?

Both actually. If it’s been sitting and no one has gotten water for a couple hours, the first bottle/glass poured is pretty cold but then the second is more like tap water cold and could use some ice. Hope that helps!

We go through a ton of ice in my house and I didnt see you mention anything about the ice maker other than it makes a low rumble noise. Is it a decent size? Does it keep up okay? Thank you!

Thanks for the question! We use a moderate amount of ice. Basically my husband and I will put some in our water bottle before filling throughout the day. We’ve never had an issue with running low. Both the crushed and whole ice features work well! Hope that helps

Hi! Very helpful review, thanks. I just ordered this fridge and am a little concerned about the dark interior. I've read other reviews that they find it really dark inside given the grey interior vs. white, do you find that as well?

Thanks for watching! I personally don’t think it’s that dark. I can see why people make comments on it because it is darker than a white interior fridge but the backlit wall does a good job illuminating the contents of the fridge without being too bright. Hope that helps!

No worries! The ice is only on the door. You can open the back of the door to grab ice from the bin instead of the dispenser

The app gives you 5 options for the middle drawer: soft freeze, meat, beverages, snacks, and wine. All of those have preset temps. I’m not sure about Black. The stainless steel can get scratches but from what I can tell, all of the scratches are from installation

Hi there! Great review. I just had the same refrigerator installed and wondering if you found a way to remove the water dispenser drip tray? Not the tray cover but the whole tray? The auto fill on ours went haywire and water poured out and down the fridge. Now there is water under the drip tray that I can’t get out…worried about mold. In every other fridge I’ve owned I’ve been able to remove the tray and clean under it. Scared to force this one to do it since it seems soooo stuck in place.
