Hannah, I started watching your videos. I though I would introduce myself. I’m Lauren. It is 2021 now. I feel like I am writing to someone in a time capsule. I am a makeup watcher. KZbin junkie as well. I love your content and I had to go back and see where it all began. I may just watch them straight through and see how far I get. Just started following. For reasons similar to yours in 2018, and totally inspired by you, I’m going to do a no-buy 2023. I have 4 palettes including 2 of the same urban decay and one ridiculously overpriced Chanel palette, but sticks and singles galore. My go to is the Urban Decay Naked 2 or a glossier skywash with a bit of lidstar on top. I’ve fallen in and out of love with caviar sticks. Sometimes I use the Chanel. I’m so glad I found your channel! My skin care is almost worse than my makeup 😬

oh, and I have 8 eyeshadow palettes! That's a lot for me and sometimes I feel guilty if I'm not using them all, I know that's not a lot compared to big beauty gurus but when I was younger I would enjoy my makeup if I had only one neutral palette. I own: - Too Faced Chocolate Palette (Probably my second oldest palette, a staple) - Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette - Venus XL Palette (Limecrime) (also my newest palette, picked this baby up at Beautycon NYC just two weeks ago) - Soft Glam Palette (ABH) - Modern Renaissance Palette (ABH) - High Maintainence Palette by Colorpop - Kylie Cosmetics Burgundy Palette - Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette (this is like my oldest one, I think it's not sold at sephora anymore?!) I'm pretty content and trying to enjoy what I own, but maybe in 6 months or so ill go for some palettes with more pops of color!

I related to your intro so much! Really, I'm doing my best to use my collection instead of buying for that instant gratification I get in the moment. I'm enjoying hitting pan on my stash now but, my collection is very large so I still have a significant amount of shadows that don't get touched, yet the itch to purchase more never really leaves me. My goal honestly is to get down to a much smaller collection that I absolutely love and use (I have a long way to go, since I just can't let go of any right now). The good news is I haven't bought anything new since November, I'm shooting to stay away from eyeshadow until summer....subscribed.

It's so fascinating to watch this later as the reign of the beauty gurus have come to the near end. I got one single palette that ended my search - Soft Glam by Anastasia. It suites my skin tone so well. It applies how I expect it too. It doesn't cake up. I compared it to my first palette - The Naked Palette and much has been improved. I remember when I was a young teen and eyeshadow had ZERO pigmentation. I'm so grateful for how far we've come!

Hannah, I know this is an old video. But I just found your channel and have been binge watching your videos, especially the “no buy year” videos. You actually came up in my recommended for the Sephora sale recommendation where you said you wouldn’t be buying anything. I love your channel; you are beautiful, well spoken, and I love your philosophy. My relationship with makeup is interesting, while I don’t buy a crazy amount of it, I feel like my obsession with makeup is an unhealthy distraction from other things in my life I don’t want to think about. Like just looking through new releases all the time, making wish lists, then obsessing over what I will ultimately buy or not buy, then when I do buy it questioning weather or not to keep it and if it’s worth the money, blah blah blah. I also have makeup sub boxes I get so I find that when they send stuff I don’t like, I end up keeping it because I feel like it’s such a good value and maybe one day I will want to use it. It gives me anxiety to have makeup I don’t use, so I force myself to use things I don’t even like so I don’t feel guilty?? But watching your videos is really making me step back and wonder why I hoard stuff that doesn’t make me happy and actually gives me anxiety! I feel inspired now. When I get home tonight I am going to ask my roommate if she wants some of my makeup I don’t use. The palette I’m wearing today I don’t like but keep forcing myself to use it I don’t know why I do that instead of just decluttering these things.. sorry to ramble anyways,, love your videos and you have really made me think about my own relationship to shopping and makeup . I’m watching this in 2022 and I realized - I started remembering 2018 and how obsessed I was with trying new makeup and new things and longing so badly for a lot of the new releases you talked about and getting them, loving them and then often being disappointed with them shortly after. I have been having an odd and almost strained relationship with makeup and enjoying it lately. Been considering no buys but haven’t committed and committing to one stresses me out still. Not sure what to do. But I noticed I felt uncomfortable and just like I couldn’t settle while watching this video so I kept watching to explore my feelings a bit and I realized it was remembering how I used to be towards makeup and lots of different things around this same year and that time of my life and how many choices I now wouldn’t make and how they made me feel afterwards as well as my current relationship is. I thought it was interesting to see just how strong of an effect this video had and I’m glad I watched ❤

I think I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 or 90 eyeshadow palettes. Yes, you read that right. Probably 60 of them are large palettes, and the rest are smaller ones that have 5 or 6 shades. Obviously this is WAY too many and I am pleased to say I haven't bought any eyeshadow (or any other types of makeup other than a backup of a foundation I used up) in 2018. You are a great inspiration! So glad I found your channel.

I just started following you because someone shared your channel on the /r/MakeupRehab subreddit. I went and counted my palettes and some how I've accumulated 26 palettes, half of which I barely ever touch. Probably 1/4 of them are neutral browns. I just kept buying them!

Hi Emily, I'm so glad you're here! Counting always drives home the reality in a major way. It's one thing to have a lot of lipstick...it's another thing to have over FIFTY lipsticks (which is what I discovered when I counted mine). As soon as I found out last fall that I have fifty lipsticks, I stopped buying lipsticks. That was a major part of my inspiration to do a total no-buy, actually. I've got 6 eyeshadow palettes and 2 face palettes, most of which were purchased this year, plus a couple of old eyeshadow quads my mom gave to me when I was in high school. (It's amazing how much my relationship with makeup has changed since then.) It's a pretty manageable collection, but I'd like it to be more minimal, so I'm still working on panning & decluttering my beauty products. Thank you for your videos! Currently binge watching from the beginning:) I have 8 palettes, and one small magnetic palette with 10 single shadows I depotted into it, so I guess I consider that I have 9. I prefer having fewer, but the more I use what I have, the more I love them and can’t imagine decluttering any of them. There is one I really want right now, but I am trying to hold off until the end of the year and see if I still want it then. Hi Hannah! I saw your Instagram post referencing your latest video and had to come check this out. We are very much in the same headspace right now. In fact, as I watched your first two videos, my husband about fainted and exclaimed “are you two the same person?!” The similarities in our pattern of finding, falling in love, and obsessively consuming beauty despite being overwhelmed by it are quite striking. I’ve been on a low-buy since the end of last year, and I’m currently doing a shopping (and sugar) fast for Lent. I’ve known for a while that there are a lot of us feeling this way, but it is definitely comforting and refreshing to see your channel. I will definitely be following along with your journey. On a separate note, I’m desperately jealous of your ability to wear a smoky eye to tango. Being a short lady, my face is always rubbing against guys shirts, so I don’t want to smear makeup all over them. Also, I sweat like a beast. It’s sad, because a milonga is definitely the type of event that feels worthy of a smoky eye.

Yay! Hi! I'm so glad you are finding my content so resonant and helpful! And the similarities continue...I'm also doing a sugar fast right now (an abbreviated Whole30, actually). When I stopped shopping, my other vices reared their heads more aggressively, and sugar is the worst. I'll be talking about this more in my February check-in video next week. Your addendum reminds me, I was considering doing a series called "Makeup vs. Tango" where I show my look before the milonga and then show how it looks when I get home at the end of the night. A spinoff of Kimberly Clark's series (hers is called "What Happened to your Face??!?!?"). I feel like there MUST be a way for you to wear the smoky eye you want to dance! Maybe using some cream shadows that set down, like the Armani eye tints, with liquid glitter like Stila Glitter & Glow to accent? Not to tempt you into buying, of course...but it would be fun to try to dream up and film a tango-proof smoky eye :) I'll see what I can do!

Hadn't counted recently, but including my z-palette and a couple of large eyecolor sections in tiered multi-palettes, it's 20 palettes, plus 7 quads, 6 duos, a few assorted eyecolors in mini to-go palettes, and apparently 30 singles in various forms (counting a backup of W&W's Brulee). Probably several of the cheap older palettes and some single shadows will get tossed soon. Honestly, blush and lip products are my more monstrous categories, and I'm putting the kibosh on new purchases in those areas for a while. There is an eye palette or two I seriously want; others that I drool over, I don't need and know wouldn't get much use.

I have 8 palettes and declutter often. At one point I had around 20. Having things that inspire me and resonate with my style give me confidence in using these products. I find it hard to NOT clutter yourself if you aren't sure of your style so my suggestion to anybody struggling with feeling overwhelmed in their collections- is to work in finding your true style.

10:20 If you can believe it I still have this palette, at this point there are no stock colours, it has all been imported from other palettes or filled in with eyebrow pomade I have made out of various powders and balm. It's the most space-saving palette I have ever found, yet it was probably the 5th palette I have ever owned. Both the hinges are broken from 10 years of use and I keep an elastic band around it to keep it together. Every shade in that thing has been mixed together with other ones.

72 and a handful of singles and another of liquid/pencil shadows... I had maybe three or four in the beginning but it all wend downhill when I placed my first Sephora order the day my friend told me she was pregnant in the midst of a two year fertility struggle (that was the Sephora x Pantone palette.) Now, about five years later, with two little ones, I look at my wish list and don't really think I need to get anymore palettes for now. Panning about five currently and trying to shop my crazy collection.

Hello from 2021. 18, I have 18 eyeshadow palette but I own two blushes . Eyeshadow is the only thing I have that many off. But I really blame the pandemic at the end of 2020 it really started to get too me and bought 3 six pan eyeshadows palletes and it started going down hill from there ( I have hit 2 pans in one of those 3 palletes thought and it arrived in January)

I have 12 eyeshadow palettes. 😳 All 5 of the Urban Decay Naked palettes, Naked Basics 1&2, Too Faced Chocolate Bar, Lorac Pro, Lorac Pro to go, a Revlon The Nudes palette and a MAC palette filled with depotted the Balm and the Beautiful palette. Very old stuff. My UD Naked was purchased in April 2011. This year I'm focusing on One Month, One Palette and most of them have to go. The Urban Decay was my very first palette so there must be a sentimental component to hanging on to it! 😊

Currently have 51 palettes not including singles. I did have 64 in December and i sold a few that were not getting used. I have a lot but I can say I love 95% of them. There’s a few on the chopping block currently (the 5% I don’t love)

I love makeup so much, but I have curated my collection so that all of my makeup fits in my bedside table (which isn’t super small, but not large either). I have more of a thing for blushes and highlights, and not so much for eyeshadow. However, eyeshadow palettes are SOOO beautiful, and I am always tempted only because of how they look. I wear the simplest of eye looks, mostly just one color, sometimes 2. I have about 10 palettes total, only 2 on the larger size. I have been making a point of using something different every single day, and find that I’m enjoying “shopping my stash” on a daily basis! 😊 I am up-to-date on all your recent videos and decided to start looking at your videos at the start of your project! I’m enjoying them so much, and they have been very inspiring. I’m starting a no-buy 2019 so I focus using and enjoying what I have, and to put my money towards more important things...like savings!

I've just discovered your channel, have gone back to its start to enjoy the no-buy year in progress -- anyway, this is old news by now but I have 10 palettes, including one small Z palette with 7 single shadows. No single shadows or pots or toppers beyond that. Over the course of this year, I ramped WAY up on makeup/purchasing (I'm 57 and only this year started wearing makeup) ... but as of October, my burnout was real -- now the only makeup I have is eyeshadow, eye primer, and mascara - and 2 blushes that I wear in the summer, along with 9 total lipsticks (3 of which I keep at work). I got rid of (decluttered) every single other thing I had purchased (and it was a LOT ... ) Feels so much better to me to just focus on the eyes, which is the only part I truly loved during my entire makeup exploration process ... and not to have foundations or primers or highlighters or any of that stuff that felt, always felt, like 'work' to me.

I have 4 palettes and I have another two in the mail 😭 but one of them (color pop it’s a mood) was on sale today for $17 and I’ve been eyeing it for a while. The other is from Beauty Bay (age of opulence palette, $18) is a friends Xmas gift but bought two so I could have one too. I’m pretty sure my mind is made up about trying a no buy year starting in Jan ‘22. Mostly for clothes and skin care but my impulses as of late have been dabbling into make up. I just need to really use up what I have already. I love your videos and this series! In this instance, I both loved and related to your makeup history story. For YEARS ( about 15) I used the same face and eye makeup products. I repurchased and used up the same quad of Maybelline multiple times.I never even considered buying more than one at a time. Until I started performing in Ballroom dance competitions in my late 20's and my instructor suggested learning how to do competition make up by watching KZbin. My makeup knowledge increased but so did my inventory. It almost ruined a way of thinking that was once so automatic for me.I feel like I am having to relearn my old attitudes of enough.

Hey Hannah! New to your channel! Found you through TFD! Considering going cold turkey for my no-buy year this coming January. Make-up isn't a problem category for me anymore as I only tend to replace things as I use them. However, when I started getting into make-up in 2013 I started consuming more beauty-based content on KZbin. I love KZbin as a resource but found the types of content that the beauty community churns out just encouraged me to spend money I didn't have on makeup that I didn't need. Fast forward to now where I barely watch any beauty content and I've downsized my make-up collection to only a few well-loved products as I find I just don't have the time to spend on an elaborate eye look or a multi-step foundation routine regularly. It's so interesting how our lifestyle changes can affect our relationship with consumption. I'm just about to leave my job of four years as an assistant manager of a charity shop (like a not-for-profit thrift store) and the amount of clothing I have cycled through in that time makes me feel a bit icky. I'm interested to see how moving forward not being able to shop while I'm at work will affect the volume of clothes that I bring into my life before the start of my no-buy-year. Looking forward to binging this playlist to gain some wisdom! Loving your content and style so far!

I might be headed in that direction, too. I love the selection of browns, but every time I've reached for it lately, I've been a little bit disappointed in the performance of the shadows. Maybe in 2019 I can get a new z-palette, de-pot it, just keep the colors I really like, and finally free myself of the hulking thing.

I've got about 15 plus singles. I have a lot of eyeshadow. I've recently acquired three Natasha Denona palettes (Gold, Lila and Sunset), which I think will now be my workhorses. If I really thought about how many of these palettes I "need" and would use regularly, I can cut that number down to 8 or 9. But I've got a few that I don't use often but am happy to have when I use them as well as one (the Jaclyn Hill palette) that I like to travel with. My relationship with eyeshadow is complicated and evolving. In my head, I would like to just have the Natasha Denona palettes, but I see value in the other ones as well.

I have over 130 😑 I tend to hold on to things Because I’m afraid if I let something go I will regret it. But I am trying to break myself of that and I am slowly but surely decluttering and giving away palettes. I’m also always donating a lot of make up. This has been the biggest hobby that I’ve ever had. I’ve loved make up since I was able to touch it. ✌🏻❤️🌞
