Hannah this is a beautiful video, but hear me out: "HLP's Guide to Monochromatic Dressing...The Coffee Table Book." I can imagine it now, an articulate forward about your journey toward exploring minimalist aesthetics, an intro with defined terms about formality level, texture, and tone, and then so many exquisite pictures with examples of the strategies you've discussed over time, all on super glossy weighted pages. Ugh, please shamelessly take this idea and make this happen!

Showing so many varied examples really drives home your point that anyone can do this. This has been one of my favorite of your fashion videos.

Such beautiful outfits! My favorite is the ivory sweater and pants...I might need that outfit for myself. 😉 I've been gravitating towards monochromatic and tonal outfits for the past few years, maybe, but this video has given me some guidance about the role of accessories. Thank you.

Thank you so much, Hannah!! I love your thoughts on monochromatic dressing. I have been playing around with my clothes this way for the past few years. It is validating to hear you discuss the positive aspects of tonal dressing and explain how and why it works with such eloquence. I can also see why you love Lilysilk. You look absolutely gorgeous in all these pieces.

Hannah for your Rhode lip balm, run it under hot water and then rub/shake, and massage it for a bit. It’s one of the ingredients I believe. This fixed mine, hope it helps!

I have a full size of the Brown Sugar and was regretting not getting the wee sizes, thank you for setting me straight! There's so much product in the full size, I wonder if it would be worth getting a few empty squeeze tubes and decanting for omniplacement...you're hardly hurting for prefilled lip treatment components, though :)

I find it sad that we are conditioned to dress for the gaze of others and not for the love of ourselves. It has been something I have, myself, been unpacking for a few years now. I am so glad you are bringing light to this subject.

So, I always love your videos! Love the quality, the deeper layer of thoughtfulness. Just some hopefully helpful feedback, I felt just a little duped re: so many Lilysilk pieces, just felt a smidge too infomercial-y. Completely fine and I understand re: providing free content, but it did just take my level of trust down a notch.

Sometime could you talk about the difference between "an outfit isn't working" (and therefore, remove belt or unbutton or untuck) and "I feel weird in this because it's outside my comfort zone because I'm trying to wear something more formal than sweats and tees"? Sort of a combination of your recent video on GEtting Actually Dressed Every DAy and this one? You are SO GOOD at explaining style vs. fashion in feelings terms.

You've pretty much defined how I have dressed myself instinctively for as long as I've been making my own choices, lol. My biggest struggles in this is the desire to have accessories in every neutral I love to wear (which includes way less black than it used to) and the fact that I can't wear shoes that do not provide cushion, much less a heel of any kind. That aside it truly is pretty easy to create a lot of variety within these common rules. Bravo and beautifully illustrated. I have been stalking those green silk pants since I first saw them over a year ago. Your videos really showed off the lovely texture and weight of all the silk bottoms and they are now officially on my Christmas list. Thank you Lilysilk!

Not more Lily Silk……. Noooooooooo 😣. And to everybody praising the diversity and size inclusion in her video please note that Lily Silk as a brand is not very size inclusive so there’s a very contradictory message going on there.

9:35 about if it feels too stuffy and how mixing formality level in the top and bottom - what if one is wearing a dress or jumpsuit? What other parts are the most effective to wear casually to calm it down, without making it look unfinished or sloppy: bag, shoes, hair, makeup, coat, scarf, hat?

This isn’t really related to the video, but I had a thought about online vs in person shopping. When shopping online, the only way to be able to interact with the physical item is to buy it. Whereas with in person shopping, obviously you can see it in person, feel the fabric, and try it on with other items in the shop. A lot of the fun of in person shopping involves creating outfits from different items in the store and then wearing them to see how they look together. Because this isn’t possible online, the only way for us to see an outfit that we’ve created in our minds is to buy the items. Like a lot of these Lilysilk items aren’t in my budget right now, but they are SO beautiful, and I want them SO bad. If they had a physical store nearby that I could visit, I would be able to quench and maybe even dispel my desire to purchase these items by interacting with them. In this way, online shopping takes advantage of our creativity to encourage us to overspend. Like I really just want to play dress up with the clothes and the only way I can do that is by buying them because their NY store is across the country from me.

(crappy English alert ;) ).There is this saying in graphic design/art: if something is a little askew it looks uneven, if it's a lot it looks intentional. It goes with this video, especially tonal dressing!

The Rule of Two when it comes to style is to make certain that at least two things in your outfit match. That can be through color, tone, or texture. One item on its own looks like a mistake, but two are a coordination.

re: grainy balms - as soon as temperature dropped closer to 0° Celsius, my burt's bees red dahlia became grainy since I was carrying it in my pocket and apparently it's too delicate for that)) I think I'll solve the problem by putting it in a warm place for some time. I guess we have another metric for products - does they hold ok in low/high temperatures.

Your clothing videos have helped me so much in re-evaluating my style, what in my closet makes me feel like in the best way, and I love the inclusivity your inspo pictures have!!!! 🎉🎉 I’ve been leaning in to my love for fun pops of colour in my wardrobe colour palette, which is usually what makes me happiest. I do use all four quadrants in your diagram depending on what I have in each of my colours.
