The Alter Ego by TC Electronic. What a great pedal. I love a nice Space Delay and Echoplex and they are all here plus a whole bunch more. ...and if this is not enough you can design about any other delay you can imagine!

the pedal will actually produce stereo effects in the quarter notes/dotted eighths switch position. one amp will receive quarter notes, the other will receive the dotted eighths. excellent video, I've had this pedal for over a year now and I still learned some new tricks!

You get a stereo ping pong effect by setting the toggle switch down, and selecting the quarter note + dotted eighth note combo. Quarter notes ping, and dotted eighths pong . . .

It does however have trails/spillover. There is a dipswitch inside the pedal to change it from true bypass to buffered with trails.

great demo!!! i bought this pedal for the eco roland but it has not to much reverb...i love the reverb with delay sound

I own this pedal and it's my only delay and the only delay I want! I leave it on my fav setting, Bdm2 with feedback at 9 o'clock, time at about 2pm, and level at 10ish. This sound is perfect for minimalist overdrivey playing. I left tape delay by Dan Huff on the toneprint for almost a year now, but I'm gonna try other ones.

Thanks for making this video .. i was trying to find out, from other videos, their website, and the manuel if i could alter the wow and flutter and other tape stuff in the editor before buying .. and seems it is not possible :/ .. that is too bad.. otherwise it seems like the perfect pedal for me.. but without the option to tweak the settings i am gonna have to pass on it.. So thanks for making things clear that is very hard to find info on otherwise :)

A jack for an external tap tempo, and a way to control the modulation would greatly improve this delay pedal.

sigh. I wish I was part of a crazier or more off beat type of band. This pedal creates amazing sounds. But I honestly don't want so much mod, and everything has it. Does all these vintage delays have this much mods? Especailly the TC 2290. I wasn't expecting so much mod to it

Was revisiting the big brother Alter Ego X-4 with my buddy Johnny Beane in my Flying Pickle Productions Studio yesterday... I bought it years ago for $150 brand new from Pro Guitar Shop while they were still around... best $150 I ever spend! The Bumblefoot Tone Print obviously not the most easily used preset... did you ever make one for this device? I must look and see if you made one too! It sounded so KILLAH through my EVH Iconic & my AC 30! 😎🤘🎸

Karl-Henrik Arendt The TimeLine doesn't really focus on Vintage Delays, except for the Analog Mode.... What the TimeLine offers and none of the TC pedals is tons of saveable presets that can also be programmed to an EXACT BPM. I need that for the gigs with Campaign Like Clockwork where the drummer plays with a click... I never have to TAP, my sounds always work perfectly and therefore I can crank up the mix and really get the delay heard... when you tap it is never that precise.... so even though the TCs are great, they cannot do that. BUT, the TCs are also half the price... it's just a different approach to using them.

It dose stereo when you use the little switch in the middle and switch it all the way down! Then it ping pongs lol on all of the algorithms other than the oil can.

Graeme Wilton yep! love mine, I use a custom toneprint to have a standard delay without modulation. I should also mention that the alter ego can use all the same toneprints that the flashback can

But only in toneprint, right? You can't alter the modulation on the presets.

This is a great review. I have the X4. It's great, but that modulation on the delays .... they really slipped up there.

I agree. The modulated delays (2290 mod) sounds crap. I have the Flashback x4 and I love the 2290 by itself and the other stand alone delays....Space, etc are pretty good, but I'm selling and just purchased the Nemesis, which is superior IMO with it's 56 bit pristine sounds and inventive algo's it's tough to beat. But yeah, I was scratching my head on that one....the built in mod on analog and 2290 suck wind.

The Tel-Rey setting is a reproduction of an Oil Can Delay. No tapes in the original.

bushibayushi it all comes down to personal preference. I personally prefer the Alter Ego V2 over the Flashback. But I'm also a vintage delay nut, and I don't mind me some warble :D - Stefan, Community Manager

+Mike D the pedal says 100mA, but it is probably a little bit less... and a normal 100mA output can handle a little bit more if the PSU is good. Watch my video series With Paul Cioks from CIOKS, he explains it all.

I understand they couldn't include a tap tempo button on the unit itself because of the pedal size but imo they really should have included a jack plug for a separate tap tempo. Without it the pedals is useless to me and many other who want to use it live. And that's just my 2 cents ;)

hyperliteBo I forgot to show the TAP function.... it is an AUDIO TAP, you hold the footswitch in and play a few notes in rhythm, then it has that tempo... but the function is limited... it will be muted when you do that, so you wouldn't be able to play along and get the tempo.... but in that case you just get the Alter Ego X4, that has tap !

The tunes I play don't generally change tempo in the middle of them, so there's plenty of time either before or during the song to use the tap function. For me a jack for separate tap tempo switch is useless as it completely defeats the purpose of using a small pedal. I don't have room for another pedal just to input the tap. If I had the room, I'd just get a larger version that has a dedicated tap button.

@@hollowmenrule keep in mind that these delays are crafted after certain tape delay machines that actually have that modulation and this is the beauty of that pedal.
