I am so glad I bought this tool!!!! I just did a perfect low profile gas block install on a nitrided barrel using this tool and it made it so easy. The center punch was only good for two of the three dimples I needed to make, but following the advice of Eric from EZ Accuracy I just ran the drill down the center of the hollow set screw and made a perfect starter dimple. Easy to do. Thanks EZ Accuracy.

I thought the purpose of dimpling was to align the port and block hole, how did you align the hole?
@556bc5 жыл бұрын
the purpose of dimpling is to prevent rotation or movement of the gasblock after installing, during firing. Alignment to the gas block hole can be with with other dimpling jigs, such as SLR, or visually indexing the gas block and confirming proper function prior to dimpling.

Will be purchasing this. You need to change the name to the simple dimple tool.

Dimple is easy , but lining up is not easy if you don't have a jig.
@ahumm82803 жыл бұрын
This is different from an actual barrel dimple jig that has a threaded pin that lines up the gas block hole with the top of the jig so that the dimple is 100% in correct spot.
@C_oprator89 Жыл бұрын
Yea it’s a cool idea but this doesn’t ensure alignment. Which is arguably the only reason for dimpling a barrel.

I really like this product. It’s very simple yet just as effective than other dimple jigs. I have to say that using locktite on a gas block is not a good idea because heat deactivates it, and the gas block can get much hotter than any type of locktite is rated for. You should use rocksett on gas blocks because it withstands heat up to 1100 degrees.
@ezaccuracy33695 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! Rocksett does really hold up to the higher heat!

Nobody ever says what the depth on the dimples should be. And nobody ever uses a vernier depth gauge to check before and after...WHY ?

You need to cover more clearly how your 100% sure the gas block is in the right spot

Don Locke how i check mine is i eye it up, then i go out and shoot it if it runs well i then come back and dimple. Most gas block have a much larger port then the barrel gas port and can actually be canted 1-2 deg left or right and still run perfectly fine, but just by eyeballing it i have never had an issue with a gas block

Do (or should) you put some type of treatment on the dimples to protect against corrosion? The design is ingenious and at a much more attractive price point.
@ezaccuracy33697 жыл бұрын
Thats a really good question Chris. Im sure you will get a lot of different opinions but here is how I feel about treating the metal where the dimples are drilled. A solution such as a "cold blue" would not be good to put under there. Many times, if not kept oiled, the cold blue will begin to rust and you will not see it under the block so I would stay away from that. Something like cerakote would be great but would be costly. Maybe something like a high heat paint would work but the barrel and gas block can become very hot. Exposed gun metal usually rusts due to moisture and salts from your hands. Your gas block should have a good seal against the barrel and the small amount of exposed metal shouldn't be an issue.
@cjanquart7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the explanation. I've heard of the "cold blue" but not the other options. I've actually spoke with a couple different independent gun stores that do custom work (say completed uppers) and when asked if they dimpled the barrels, they told me no (at least one guy stated that most shooters aren't going to subject their rifle to that much stress so it's not necessary). I want to do the job and do it right the first time; I also don't mind spending the money for quality tools and components (well as much as my bankroll allows). Between this and a gas block jig, yours in the more price competitive.
@scott22284 жыл бұрын
$14? I just checked and it was $21.... 3 years of inflations I guess. It’s now “priced out.” A KAK jig is only $26.99. I would have 100% bought this for $14!!!

Normally there is a approx. 1/16 th inch gap between the flat surface and the gas block for proper alignment of the gas block and the hole in the barrel. Then again I may be wrong.
@556bc5 жыл бұрын
Technically yes, but it really doesn't matter with MOST gas blocks as the gas block hole is larger than the barrel's gas port. It shouldn't matter. that gap is there to accommodate the handguard cap on M16/A1/A2 non-freefloat handguards with Front Sight Bases. However, installs of low-pro gas blocks will take into account of the gap, rather than butting up to the shoulder, to ensure proper indexing of both the gas block hole and gas port.

I hear crickets. No response to my first post at all. So I'll ask again. Will this work to mark and drill nitrided barrels? I realize the drill bit will need to be a carbide drill bit, but what I want to know is whether or not the pin that fits inside the set screw will be able to leave the start dimple for the drill bit?
@ezaccuracy33697 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay. The center punch might have a tough time getting a good starter hole going but even if it doesn't leave a very deep one, the drill bit will still follow the guide and creating the dimples shouldn't be a problem.
@carllove37057 жыл бұрын
EZ Accuracy, you were right. I changed out my barrel today, and after two dimples in the nitrided barrel the center punch was distorted to the point of being unusable. The particular gas block I bought was from Faxon Firearms, and it had three set screws in it. However just like you said I just put the 1/8 cobalt drill bit down the hollow set screw that came with your tool and it created a perfect little starter dimple. After I got all three holes started, I removed the gas block and then used an 11/64 cobalt drill bit to finish up the three dimples. It was easy and I'm so glad I bought your tool. Thank you.
@shuff11114 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but if people have to be told to only remove 1 set screw to make sure the block doesn't move, then they should not be building, or dare I say even handling a gun! 2:48

You can mark it with punch by removing the screw, the purpose of doing the dimple is centering the gas block hole with the barrel hole your just drilling with the gas block already aligned, this tool is so dumb with no purpose!🙄
@ezaccuracy33695 жыл бұрын
Incorrect Oscar. The purpose of the dimple is to ensure the gas block does not move under use. Over the years, we have seen many gas blocks shift under hard use which deadlines the firearm. Also, you incorrectly used "your" and should have used "you're" meaning "you are". Maybe something to correct before calling something dumb. Just a thought!
