On the gas block alignment I use a 2 foot rubber hose pushed onto the gas tube, I blow air through the tube as I rotate the block on the barrel. That will always find you the sweet spot

Use a borescope to check alignment. Eyeing it with a T handle is crazy.

I wish my palmetto didnt need an adjustable block. Its passed the bcg bench test etc. But it does seems like im shooting my own brass at times. My buddy who knows way more than i says its the hardest recoiling 15 hes shot. The wuestion i have is doesnt that wear the bcg and upper faster and if so how much? I dont mind it for now, but i dont want to wear anything 2-5x etc faster.. Great video

Talking about gas systems, I have a side charging AR that I would like to use it as single shot "Bolt action type" if you will, and the reason for that is I live in California and I want to keep all my evil features without the need of a fix mag cause I already have 2 of those and I don't like it. My question is: Is it safe to remove the gas tube and block the gas port?

Yeah. If you have a low profile gas block and can just remove the gas tube and put the gas block on *backwards* to cover the gas port in the barrel. That way, from a functional standpoint, you can do what you want and use what you already have to accomplish it.

I don’t know about long term effects, but the first upper I ever bought came with a gas block that wasn’t lined up. It performed like you say it would and didn’t seem to do any damage. Was just annoying since I didn’t know what was happening 😅. Good luck

In a barrel that doesn’t have a pinned gas block, how do you ensure your gas port is lined up correctly to the gas block? Specifically on a superlative arms bleed off gas block and a ballistic advantage govt profile barrel

Your barrel should be dimpled. If it’s not, that should’ve been a clue to not buy it in the first place as lack of dimple indicates a lack of quality. However if it’s already too late, buy a dimple jig and dimple your own barrel. It is a virtual mechanical impossibility for a dimple drilled with a jig to be misaligned with the gas port.

Does the gas block index against the barrel shoulder or should there be a small gap. I've seen it done both ways for different reasons. Thanks.

I have done it both ways with the same results…the hole in the gas block is oversized so it won’t mattter

Mil-Spec is .025" off the shoulder. The ninjas always fork that up!

Use a borescope if you want to confirm for yourself. My sample size of 1 shows that the gas block hole is bigger than the hole in the barrel, and it didn’t matter whether if the gas block touches the shoulder or not.

@@alexanderkim4889 But then your gas tube is .025" pushed too far back and hitting the gas key on the bolt carrier harder/further than it was designed to be and accelerating wear.
