So i was watching your review and i may have figured out the issue. If you drive in winter conditions and salt gets inside the mechanism that opens the valve that could cause it to seize up Happened to me on one if my generators. So it could be the same that happened to that valve. I been researching it i do oil changes twice a month and it looks so easy with that. But thank you for sharing your experience. I know to check it alot more

Yeah. It was pretty easy except for how long it took to drain. It took way longer than it should and if its windy outside, get ready for a mess. I just use a big ice chest now. Works great. They don't use salt here in Oklahoma when it's icy. They use sand and I pretty much stay local. I think it was internally broken. I have heard there's better brands though for those valves. I've heard Fumoto is pretty good. I'm just sticking with the ice chest and the factory drain plug.

I am in the process of determining which brand I want to get for my 2 vehicles. I really appreciate your experience with this brand. Makes me think twice about this "EZ DRAIN VALVE" and the other "FUMOTO" brand, both of which use the same mechanical approach in their products. From the outside, once you took off the protective cap and then did a zoomed in view of the ball (4:40) the ball itself looks to be seated on that white ring of teflon (or whatever it's made from) which is held into place by those 5 flat metal 'shelves'. Once you opened the valve, if you took something soft (made from plastic, or hardwood, or something that won't damage the surface of the ball) a slight tap inwards on the ball itself would have probably broke the seal around the ball and freed it up to fully open. Question.... When you first initially installed your EZ Drain Valve, did you install it right from the box onto the vehicle? Did the install instructions say to do anything to it before installing it,, like maybe running a little oil through it pre or post install? If not, I'm wondering if the surface of that white ring was probably "dry". The combination of the heat from the engine, the constant pressure of the spring pushing the ball into the ring and the constant engine vibration may have caused the white ring to stick to the ball over the months since installed. If you still have the valve laying around (and only out of curiosity) open the valve and push the ball to see if it's sticking. I know we buy these things to make our life easier, quicker, and less messy, and that you shouldn't need to do anything more then as advertised by the manufacturer,,, but that's just my $0.02 observation I wanted to throw out there for conversations sake. Thanks for taking the time to follow up your original video about this EZ Drain Valve.

I don't have the valve anymore. There was no instructions included. (Seems to be a theme now) I honestly don't know how the internals work. I never really looked. As soon as I took that aluminum cap off to let out a little oil and it was wide open, that was it for me. Thats risking way too much. I don't trust that cap one bit. I drain the oil every 12500 miles so, not a whole lot of time goes by in between oil changes. It's just cheap. I thought it was mechanical in the sense of a butterfly valve or water faucet. Apparently, there's more to it than that in that tiny mechanism. Cheap, tiny parts + heat + vibration = failure.
@mikelikegaming5 ай бұрын
@@aftersolo It's a ball valve. That handle turns a sphere with a hole through it. Ball valves tend to be more reliable and leak less than butterfly valves though it seems you got unlucky with that one.

Thanks for saving me from making the wrong investment. Also, I know how much it sucks to make a mess with an oil change.

Shopvac in oil fill tube holds my oil in. Without a plug in place. That way you control drain speed. X15, 11 gallons.

I have the valvomax valves on my 2 cars. very happy with the design and the heavy duty construction compared to this. I'm not sure if they have a size for a Cat engine, but worth a check. I'd hate having to change 10 gal. in my driveway.

I got a pretty good system now. I use a big Igloo ice chest and it holds all the oil no problems. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you still want a quick valve you should check out the fumoto brand. Those are legit made in Japan. I get it tho, you can’t go wrong with a regular drain plug. Having the quick valve that points down saves from having a mess on your hands, safe travels yo

Yeah, I've heard they're better but I'm just going for peace of mind now. Appreciate it though

I'm not much on the Fumoto design either. I think a much better option is the ValvoMax drain

I just put the original plug back in it and walked away. Drains extremely fast.

Should of went with the fumoto drain valve if they make one that big, I've been using them for decades and never had a problem with them

I just went back to the original plug. Drains all the oil out in about 30 seconds. I've heard Fumoto is good though.

@@aftersolo yeah, and not only that - they also allow to drain more oil. The intention of this thing is to avoid mess and possibly save a buck or two on copper washers. But as the story tells, all that savings carry some risk of losing big :)

@AfterSolo They are called... No-Spill Oil Drain Kit.... they are on Amazon. Alot of Heavy Truck dealers and Ag dealers sell them here. Built heavy duty and safe even on gravel roads. Have one on a C15 and a M11 as well as a JD 9430 tractor. Nothing hangs down like the brand you have.
