Nice! Only problem is I'm having a very hard time finding one to buy online. Ebay included. No one seems to have them. Where could I buy one today?

Just ordered one of these after watching your review. To be honest, a fellow Brit saying it's good sealed the deal. Bought mine from Germany through PayPal to be safe. And I am /so/ glad someone else shares my views on downloading ROMs for old-gen consoles. The only people making money are the scalpers or ex-collectors that bought them all up. Still trying to get a cheap Blood Omen 1 legit though.

I got it from a company in Hong Kong called Realhotstuff. You can probably find their site by Googling it. They ship pretty fast, so I'd recommend them.

Thanks, dude! I got the EZ from a Chinese site called ebluar. Although It seems to be down right now. The GB USB I bought from Kitsch Bent in the US. Both sources are very reliable :) (in my experience).

I mention Goomba in the video. But you'll never get a game like Shantae to run properly on the GBA via emulation. The PSP and Wii can't even run that game properly! :P I bought the GB USB cart to run my GB/GBC games on the SP.

I've got one of those GB 64m USB cards it's great, so handy if it wasn't for that I'd not be able to use my DMG-1 to make chiptune music with LSDJ, which the rom I bought from the dev but I totally agree with your view on rom games, buying from places like ebay doesn't make the dev any money if that's the only place you can find it and playing on the original machine is best.

I agree, the gameboy games run flawlessly. The odd game like Shantae may not work but the vast majority will run perfect on the ez flash 4. Better than purchasing another flashcart for sure.

Yes, search for EverDrive. You can get them for most retro consoles :)
@RetroGameTech
@RetroGameTech 12 жыл бұрын
No, not as far as I'm aware. The pinout of GBA and GBC carts are different. I believe this is how the console distinguishes which type of game you've inserted. To have a true, all in one cart I think you'd need some sort of external switch to "trick" the console. Otherwise, you can emulate GBC/GB games on the GBA using Goomba. However games such as Shantae will not run at full speed. This is a limitation of the GBA hardware.
@RetroGameTech
@RetroGameTech 12 жыл бұрын
I own the original and have also tested it with the EZ-Flash. Doom runs flawlessly :) . It's not emulating the games so every title should work the same as if you had the real cartridge plugged in.

I wouldn't recommend the Supercard Mini SD. It has issues with causing slowdown in many games because of its on the fly save system. There's a video here on KZbin showing the problems it has playing games like Contra. The EZ-Flash has no such issues :)
@RetroGameTech
@RetroGameTech 12 жыл бұрын
Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX. The Supercard has very noticeable issues when you pick up the spread shot gun. Street Fighter is another game that has problems. If you do a search here on YT it's the first vid you see. It's a comparison between the two cards. As for GBC emulation I was really hoping games like Shantae would work well. It does run but at a horrible framerate. I've not tested others but that's why I got the GB USB Smartcard :P

I also have the EZ4. I even installed the same theme you got. It's the most amazing purchase I've made for my GBASP. But I've read somewhere that you shouldn't use micro SD + converter in it, supposedly some people lost their save files after a couple of months. So I tracked down a mini SD card (non-SDHC), and I've got to say, it wasn't easy to find one. EZ4 has some flaws though, e.g: you can't put lots of roms in the same directory, it won't show them on the screen, so you have to use folders.

I used to have a GBA with a flashcart but nowadays I use a modded PSP, the battery lasts way longer than the almost dead battery of my GBA, and the game compatibility is actually better, not to mention all the other consoles I can also play with it.

I bought an EZFlash IV last year to play the Mother 3 translation and Rhythm Tengoku, deffiently worth it, though it can be kind of hard to remove the Mini SD so using a Micro SD card with an adapter was probably a good idea.

Hi. Just a word of warning with using a microSD with adapter on the EZF-IV. I was looking into buying one of these and it seems loads of people have had problems using a microSD + adapter instead of a miniSD (corrupted saves etc). google for 307089-ez-flash-4-problems and look at the bottom 2 posts.

I was aware of SFII, but just thought all these flash cards had these sort of issues. Will the EZ Flash play Monkey Ball Jr? I have never seen that game emulated correctly. Also, will the GB USB smart card work in a Micro? Really, the only reason I bought a Supercard was because I had a dinky little Micro, & I wanted everything all in one small portable handheld & no extra carts. I always wanted the Micro to be backwards compatible with the GB/GBC anyway, smooth NES emulation was just a bonus.

I got my miniSD -> microSD converter stuck in mine. I'm still able to remove the microSD card inside, but I cannot get the converter out at all. Rather nice flashcart, software was fairly easy to use, etc. Make sure you don't skip the starting saver bit because that is it reading back from the SRAM and writing that to the SD card, it doesn't do direct to SD writes in game. If you skip it, next game you load will overwrite the SRAM. Where did you get that GBC one though?
@RetroGameTech
@RetroGameTech 12 жыл бұрын
Just tested Monkey Ball Jr and works perfect :) . The GB USB Smart Card won't work with a Micro, sadly. The GBC/GB carts won't physically fit in the Micro anyways.

If memory servers correctly down by the cartage contacts there is a little switch that gets hit when you put in a normal Game Boy game, when a GBA game is put in the switch is not pushed down and the system goes in to GBA mode. I wonder if you could put in a ROM for a normal Game Boy and have something push the little switch down to make the GBA start in GB mode.
@RetroGameTech
@RetroGameTech 12 жыл бұрын
Did you transfer the roms to your memory card with the EZ-Flash software using a PC? The ROMS need to be patched and the EZ-Client software also has to create a special folder with save files etc.

I have almost 40 games for my GBA and hauling them all around with me really sucks because the case is about the size of a small purse. I feel ridiculous carrying it around with me. With this thing I can have all the games I own and don't own in one cart and leave all the other physical games at home. Having tons of cartridge games really destroys the portability of a console. I need one of these.

I managed to figure the issue out. It seems you have to send the games to the mini sd instead of sending them some place on the desktop. If you don't send it to the mini sd, it doesn't create the saver folder with the saved states inside. Thanks again for posting this video, i guess my disappointment is gone.

I went out and bought this the day you posted this video. Super excited for it finally came in the mail and sort of disappointed. I can figure out how to get this thing saving. in configuration it has 'save mode' and it says 'auto' and 'forced' I tried both but it doesn't keep any saves. I save in game, I quit. I start another game save that. come back to the first game, no more saved data... Any help?

Did you use EZ-Client to physically transfer the ROMs from the PC to the card? You need to tell EZ-Client to place the patched ROM and dummy save file directly onto your memory card and not the PC.

I'm another person who can't get saves to work... Do you have or know of a step-by-step guide for doing this that works? I have a directory named "saver" in the root of the card and ran the roms through the EZ-Client software, but it still won't save.

@JohnPortfolio2010
@JohnPortfolio2010 12 жыл бұрын
I did it through the EZ-Client Software. And I made sure the 'add save patch' was checked. It almost seems like the card doesn't know how to load. I have a folder called 'SAVER' on my stick. and inside that folder, I have kirby.git and megaman.bat both have a size of zero. So it looks like its saving maybe (unsure since the file size are zero) and the cart isn't loading it?

Which version of Contra? Because my Supercard plays the NES version flawlessly using the built in NES emu. The GBC & GB emus also work great, which was half the appeal for me, because I was using it with a Micro. I don't have it anymore. I sold it & got an Xperia Play. Still can't play Monkey Ball Jr on it though.. GODFRKNMTHADFDGFH!!!

Been wanting to get one of these for a while. I was really disappointed to hear you say that it doesn't support GB/GBC games, I've been thinking that it did all along. Has this changed? Is there another GBA flash cart that supports them? The GBA plays regular GB/GBC games fine, why wouldn't the ROMs work?
