EZ QT Threading Attachment for woodturning

I demonstrate EZ Quick Twist Threading attachment for a threading jig that cuts quick twist wood threads on a lathe. To be precise, threads with a double start and interrupted threads. What? Double start thread means that two threads start 180 degrees apart and run the length of the thread entwined with each other. The interrupted threads means the threads come together and lock with less than a quarter turn twist, similar to your typical peanut butter jar. You have got to see this!

This jig was not popular and was apparently dropped by Chefwarekits.com who still sell a regular threading jig that is similar but does not allow for cutting two threads 180 degrees apart for faster threading.

Good teaser Mike, that jig accessory looks intriguing. I have the XL Pro threading jig and have enjoyed its ease of use and repeatability. I am curious about the double start thread, also the interrupted thread, any special setup to having grain match box is when closed?

I will be frank with you, Bert. The double start is ok if 12 tpi works for you. The interrupted thread, I think, is a lot of effort for little payoff. It is interesting but from a gift receipient or customer, would they like it more than just threads? Would a customer pay more for a box with it over a plain threaded box? Re grain mach, I don't think you could adjust the wood, say on the lid, to match grain without throwing off the match of the interrupted thread. There is probably a technique in setup to help insure a grain match but I have not thought about it. I have not used the QT jig since I did the manual and instructional video for Chefware Kits.

Mike Peace Woodturning Thanks for that Mike I appreciate the comments. I haven't seen much discussion on the concept on forums either. I have made a few large boxes( 5" diameter) with threaded lids and am thinking a quarter turn might be a nice touch for opening. Not sure if it's worth the effort either, and then there is the budget consideration for a single use specialty tool. I have been in contact with Craig at CWK to get more information.
