I had the pleasure of filming a tutorial with Simon Hope on his Easy Set Threading Jig. This video is aimed at people who are looking to get a jig like this, or indeed those who already have one. It is a great visual manual on how to obtain the very best from the jig.

Thank you Mike. I have many things I want to achieve in turning and the principal one is threading. To that end I bought Simon's jig a while ago but haven't had the opportunity to use it yet as I've just moved house. However, I've now settled into my new workshop and when the decks are cleared I'm looking forward to using it. When it first came in the post I was mightily impressed by the sheer quality of it. Many thanks, Alan.

It's great to hear from you Erik. I've been out of circulation for a while as I've been moving house. My new workshop is now like a garbage tip so it means I'm getting back to normal. Hope all is well in California and wish you a merry Christmas. Alan.

Hope you enjoy using it Alan, let me know what you think. I may well get one in the future, but want to try my hand at hand chasing first....if ever I get the time to learn ;) Cheers Mike

Thank you Mike. I tried hand chasing and followed Sam Angelo's videos but I just couldn't make the grade hence the purchase of Simon's jig. Best.. Alan.

Thanks Mike. Great video. Been looking forward to this one. I spoke to Simon at the show in Harrogate and he said that a new video by yourself was on the cards. I travelled down to the show specially to buy one of Simon's Threading jigs. A real robust quality engineered tool.

I'm kind of late to the party, but thanks for the great video. Simon had the perfect delivery...I learned exactly what I needed to learn, and never got bored. (I think I should use the term "spot on!") Also, thanks for showing us how to make adjustments to the fit. Good selling point for the hinge (at least for me!). One question...I tend to be a little anal about some things. Often, I "eyeball" things like screw placement, etc., but I am concerned about eyeballing the parallel lineup of the banjo (jig) when setting up. Maybe it will look easier once I have the jig on my machine, but do you have a method for lining the jig up parallel that is more "idiot proof"? Is there any availability in the US in 2020?

Great tutorial. What are your favorite wood to chase threads?
@MikeWaldt

Thanks Pablo, as yet I have never chased threads, I was just filming this video for Simon, who makes this jig. I do know that hardwoods like Boxwood etc. are ideal for thread chasing. Cheers Mike

Good job on recording this video Mike. You held my interest the entire time. The only thing that you might have improved on are the close-ups, perhaps a bit tighter would help. Simon has a well engineered jig there. I'll do some more research on this very interesting tool.Like!

I don't understand how the crank handle in timed to the Spindle rpm. Your lead screw would do this on a metal lathe. Never mind, I got it.

Silly me, timing is only necessary if the part is turning and the cutter is stationary. You wouldn't believe how many miles of pipe I've threaded without ever realizing this.
