Kelly I use a Metronome now and then to keep my timing accurate. And when not using the Metronome count the timing in my head, when strumming. One thing I have always wondered when changing Chords i.e. C F G7. Is the Chord change always done on the down stroke or does it not matter, just keep the timing accurate? I had never heard the Paradise John Prine song before. I like it.

When I said down stroke. I was referring to the 1st (thumb).

Hi Therese! I would say the changes happen best between the third downstroke and the first one (with the thumb). Metronomes are a great way to both keep you playing at a constant pace. They are also great to help you gradually increase your playing speed. For instance if you are playing a song at 75 bpm but your goal is to be able to play it at 100bpm, slowly increase the bpms maybe 5 bpms after every couple of practice sessions. In no time you'll be up to speed in a nice controlled way. Kelly

@@fourstringstrummer Thanks Kelly. I bought a couple of Ukulele Books. One has the measures and that is easy to follow even when the Chords are split within a measure. The other Book is plain with just the Chords above various areas of a song. Similar to what you have above in Paradise John Prine. I had no idea what to do or how many strums to fit in. So your reply has helped me a lot. Thanks for that. Also what you have said too re the Metronome, I will ensure I do that too whilst I practice.
