Can I just take a moment and appreciate the fact that your streams feel like already-edited videos? I know no other person on KZbin who is so fluent while streaming. Most other streams start with a "Starting Soon" screen of indefinite length, then go into 10 minutes of echoes and other technical difficulties (even the best of them always ask "let me know if you can hear me") - and here you are, just doing it like a pro!

YO! Something you mentioned in this video that I'd love to see some sort of video or post about in the future is bringing the Octatrack to band practice. I'm in a similar place with bands, I was in a few back in the day, hardcore touring and recording, but I've been solo since Covid. I still don't play in a band officially, but I love jamming with friends, whether they're on guitars and basses and stuff or also on electronic gear, whether sequenced or played live. It would be awesome to get some examples and techniques you might use if you were jamming with others without knowing what you're getting into ahead of time!

Octatrack is so good, that I don't want to buy other gear because I want to spend all the time on it along with Analog Rytm and Digitakt, but Octatrack is like 80% of the time. Time is precious. People who had Octatrack and sold it just didn't learn it well, you need to put in the work, but it is so rewarding and addictive it's crazy. It pays of multiple times and I can't imagine my workflow without it. Digitakt is cool and amazing, but it is nowhere close to Octatrack.

Missed the stream. Octatrack is something one day I'll get one, but when needing a performance mixer for live play I went for a djm (same as what mikey uses) , at least in Australia The DJM was 1500 aud and the Octatrack is 3000 aud. Octatrack does way more stuff of course. the DJM can do usb fx send / return to AUM on ipad (and have that process audio), only tested that that works but never really dived into it. I also write pretty static structured music which doesnt lend itself to manipulation so much. Still hard to determine what exactly is going on when you move the crossfader as a non octatrack owner :p

I bought mine for sound design for film projects, and it ended up creating so much good stuff that it's spilt over into music. I find that the workflow pushes you into a dance and techno pattern when making tracks and it can't multitimbral sample like an MPC so I've added in a Machine Plus which is where I arrange now. But everything starts with the Octatrack, it's the heart and soul.

Was thinking at that 1hr20ish mark where you’re chopping the sample as an effect and laying down play trigs, a midi channel on the DT II euclydian mode could be popping those trigs off right?

I can’t try it myself atm. But I saw an old video of the Machinedrum where you can hold FUNC, edit tweak stuff and instantly go back to the original state of the song with one button press in real time. I don’t remember reading about that in the manual. Maybe that’s where the dader is for instead?

So, at 1:14:00 your flex track that plays the recorded shimmer, in records and plays at the same time with the microtiming delay of the play trigger, right?

Now that the Digitakt has 16 tracks I kind of suspect Elektron - if they ever do make an Octatrack 2 or Mkiii - to make it 16 tracks as well. So more like the Octatrack X2.

I love my OT but I got the OG Digis and there's so much overlap. The looping and FX are very important or I might consider selling it.

Oh man but I'd NEVER replace my OT with a modern MPC. That thing wasn't even a quarter as dependable as my OT. Polyphony be damned.

Not sure if i regret going with deluge over octatrack a few years back now. Havent really used/gotten used to the sampling functionality and maybe the effects and line input/output options are a bit of a set back on the deluge... sequencing is excellent though. Dunno.

Definitely need a midi switch to start implementing live sampling etc with deluge and isn't a mixer in itself. Sheeit.
