Great short tip JT. So many modern engines need cooling system bleeding so you don't get air bubbles and hot spots in the heads. Sometimes the air bubble is at the coolant sensor, the engine is overheating, but the sensor doesn't know that because it's sensing in an air bubble.

If anyone is hearing water swooshing around inside the dash or the passenger side. There most likely is air trapped. My 2015 Colorado 2.5L developed a slight leak between the T-connector coming from the coolant reservoir. The leak was the inside wall of the heater hose not properly clamped. Put a different hose clamp on it and all is well. The swooshing stopped immediately. I guess if you can see water weep slightly from a hose, it can also allow air to intake back through that same opening. It took me almost a year to find out what was happening. The leak was teaspoon per month at best.

I think I'll stick to my old school engines where you bleed them by starting them with the rad cap removed and they just burp themselves as soon as the stat opens.

Dodge recommends to use a vacuum bleeder on the older style 3.6. Never used that bleeder screw crap. I use the funnel that you speak of and get the RPMs up until the heater starts blowing hot. Had hell with a keep wrangler 3.6 one time

I bought a cooling system vacuum tool off the snap on truck. Need a good air compressor for it, but it works well at eliminating any air trapped in the system. I do need to get a bleeder funnel for mobile jobs

Agreed. Partial bleed beats no bleed. At least that will put enough in to get the thermostat element wet. Will definitely need to be ran and topped off after a warm up still, though.

Even when I didn’t have a bleeder funnel I would always just let them run with the cap off for a little bit them with the cap on for a little bit then fill them up after they cooled down and never had any problems with air bubbles left

I've never had an issue with just bleeding the system with a funnel. Driving the car until operating temperature and rechecking the coolant reservoir. Air will automatically go to the top of the engine even with a thermostat. Let me know if you ever had an issue with getting the air out of your system

The 3.6 pentastar engine kind of tricky when bleeding and can be mis leading. But you hit home some good points.

So I worked at a GM dealership years ago and they use a tool kit that actually pulls a vacuum pressure on the cooling system then uses uses that vacuum pressure to fill the cooling system. supposedly if done right and cooling system is sealed right you have no air bubbles when filling. Have you had experiences yourself with this kind of method and would you say it actually works? Thanks.

Yes, my neighbor co-worker has one of them tools and he loves it. The theory sounds legit but im a lil old school and paranoid, lol. But I do plan to get that tool and use it for various reasons including this.

Usually called a coolant lift pump. But I use them all the time at work. Doesnt work on bigger engines such as diesels but everything else works great. It can still leave some air in the system though. Always follow it up with a bleeder funnel for best results. The new 3.6s tend to be a complete pain to bleed. I usually pull the upper heater hose off of the coolant tube and fill till it comes out if necessary. The way he did it in the video is a trick I may use now as well.

Plastic . Smh turning the tab risk stripping out. I recall the same style turn tab was on chysler radiator drain plug and it stripped off when opening to drain. End up having to replace the whole rad.

I just replaced the radiator on my 2019 Pacifica 3.6L V6 Touring L. Is there a coolant air bleeder screw on these motors? My coolant was boiling and the level was going up and down in the expansion tank (air in system??). I don't want to overheat the engine. I have since left it running with the expansion tank cap off, Engine & heater on max for about 20 minutes, pressing the rad hoses to rid the air, seems to have gotten better, got to check again tomorrow morning. Am I doing anything wrong? I still haven't used the air bleeding yellow funnel, will try that tomorrow..

Coolant level in expansion tank keeps changing after car seats overnight. There no overheating, but the level is never where it needs to be, plus when I remove the cap it makes this whooshing sound like releasing air pressure. Looks like I still have air trapped in the system. I never did remove the temp sensor. I may ultimately need to look into vacuum feeling the coolant to completely burp the system of air.
