F-100 Super Sabre Low Approaches - Thunder Over Michigan 2016

Grab a seat at the end of the runway as Dean "Cutter" Cutshall performs several low approaches and afterburner flybys before landing at the 2016 Thunder Over Michigan airshow. The airshow is held at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, MI to raise funds for the Yankee Air Museum.

Its a shame that the F-100 and the F-104 are the only Century Series jets still flying. :( Sure would be nice to see an F-101, F-102, F-105 and F-106 flying again!

Same here xc. About 15 years ago The Collins Foundation tried to restore an F-105D to flying status but it got shelved due to funding. I'm sure there's also airworthy 101s, 102s, and 106s out there but it seems like getting them back in the air once more is a pricey task.......if I was a billionaire they wouldn't stay on the ground for too much longer!

No, it wasn't funding. The USAF simply wouldn't sign them over. They even had several CMOH recipients on their side lobbying the air force but to no avail. The only reason Collings got the A-4 and F-4 is that Congress stepped in. (Although they could have bought either from a foreign air force without trouble from the USAF and they had no ownership rights. Similar to Art Nalls and his Shar. The Marines would never have sold one to a civilian but the RAF and Royal Navy do have public sales, although the new owner needs to go to a more lenient country to be able to fly them as Art did.) I still have hopes of a VooDoo making its way into the air from Canada. (Or an F-14 in civilian hands if Iran ever sells theirs although ITAR rules would probably stop that one.)

There might be a few air worthy F-102s from a foreign country, but doubt it. There were never really that many F-106s built and the USAF and Convair were protective of the tech in it's heyday. The F-105D was flown till they couldn't fly it anymore and half it's production line was lost due to operational accidents or combat. With the exception of the Hun, Zipper, and the Thud, the other half of the century series had a very small production run. I am surprised they got their hands on a 100F, even fewer of those.

I saw my first F-100 in the mid 50s, as a child growing up in Colorado Springs. They were carrying Thunderbird colors. I saw my last F-100 when I was passing thru Phan Rang AFB, RVN, in 1969.

Excellent work, as always. Sunday was the most fantastic weather for airshow photography I've seen in a LONG time. After getting a ride in the B-17 Yankee Lady (see the video on my KZbin channel) I got hundreds of incredible photos against the mixed-cloud background. I will also be posting a slideshow... as soon as I get permission to use the music I selected for the soundtrack.

Great looking aircraft. I remember being very envious when my younger brother received a quite good toy representation of a Super Sabre. It had folding landing gear and a not so authentic missile that fired from the air intake!

Who do you think would win in a fight the MiG 17 or the Super Sabre??

I know this is a 2 month old comment, but in my opinion it would definetly be the Super Saber. It has the ability to go Mach 1.1 or 1.2 [that might be off not sure] Meaning it can outrun a Mig-17 if one gets on its tail, not to mention its highly maneuverable and can carry AIM-9 Missiles, so if it happens to out manuever the MIG it can fire off a AIM-9, though if it doesn't have missiles it would be equal, depends on the skill of the pilots at that point

They look truly aerodynamic because pilots flew these older jets - not computers. Aerodynamics were required to be totally impeccable from nose to tail. That gives them the real flying look. New jets can fly by piloting alone and require flight surface augmentation. That is why the new ones are not pure airplanes.

They are "low and slow"...unsafe to do aerobatics in a F100 in thoseconditions. You will en up " Sabre dancing"

It's very rare for me to give a thumbs down, but between the tire noise on the expansion joints and then the cars in the frame, this must have been done by a person sitting on the side of the road. It totally detracted from the video of a low flying aircraft.
