@@babathegoodmansamba8533 Nonsense. F14 was an exceptional fighter plane, although to be fair to Iranians they didn't have all the available options on the plane as they had not been implemented by the time the Islamists arrived. The Iranian F14 was only capable of firing its AIM 54 in a single fire mode and could not even fire AIM7 Sparrow and the AIM9L Sidewinder when the Americans left. I believe they also disabled the multi lock/multi launch capability of the AWG9 radar before departing on very bad terms.

We have heard all these before. My father was a very high ranking civil servant with some classified duties. Only my mother knew what he was up to. It took years of saving money so that he could buy her a Paykan ( the Iranian made car ) for 21000 Tomans, roughly $2400.00 then. No doubt a few people had obscene amount of money, but as a whole the money was tight for most Iranians. The saving grace was that prices of daily comodities were cheap so people could live a reasonably comfortable life. Suitcases of money changing hands is more like the story of today's Iran where IRGC mafia has its hands in everything from sports to sugar, to technology.

Just know that the relationship was so good between Iran and USA at that time, it so contrast with these time situation. I have some question and statement about Iran - USA relationship : 1. Why USA/Grumman gave a total assistance to Iran at that time? Because of Iraq threat? or because of 80 tomcats purchasing by the Iranian? 2. Since when and why USA start to make Iran an enemy? and why Iran has a bad relationship with israel? 3. I surprised that Iranian intructures can spoke english fluently at that time, it reflected the Iranian had a great ability and smart, and they spoke english at all training classes. It's awesome. 4. I think tomcat was very ingrained in the Iranian air force at that time (maybe till these moment) more than the US air force did. So that's why tomcat still in good operation in the Iranian air force this moment, even though it's not in service anymore in US air force. 5. In my opinion, Iranian has a great capability to develop their own technologies, include the nuclear weapon. Those are my few question, I hope you guys can answer it for me. Thanks a lot.

@@kpaxxapk6397 I lived 5 miles from where they were produced in Calverton , LI .NY and a lot of friends fathers worked on producing them , They were a wonderful airframe at the time but maintenance on them was expensive and extensive , The Navy elected to eliminate them and were replaced , They are old technology and we have moved on , I also went to college with Iranians at the Maritime college I went to and under the Shah ,sadly many of them are no longer alive .

Americans seems to had a great time in Iran. When they got kicked out, they thought Iran Air Force will not be able to maintain and fly any of their aircrafts, 43 years later Iranian Engineers are still maintaining and flying F14, F4 , F5 and many others. And building there own fighter jets And don’t need the Americans come to Iran and act as they own the place.

Those F14A's are museum pieces compared to F22 and F35. I'm not even talking about the F4 and F5. The only thing the IRIAF is good for is if they ever want to film "Top Gun" again.

The F-14 might still be useful today. It can carry huge long range missiles that other fighters cannot.

I think a combination of Iranian culture and American science & education system would made a spactacular country. if the monarchy didn't failed and the country countinued to thrive ,it would look x10 times nicer than UAE, with all that variety of terrain & all those famouse historical sites and the rich culture, it would have been nr1 asian country on anyone's trip list today.

I always wondered how much $$$$ the US actually recovered from the Iranian contract since these contracts are typically +20 years? If not, then all that coin would have had to have been written off of by Jimmy in 1979.
@Kawboy654 жыл бұрын
Actually, the money that the Obama administration gave back to Iran in the "nuclear deal" were progress payments received for the F-14 contract decades ago.
@Christoff19963 жыл бұрын
The whole contract when signed in January 1974 was 2 billion dollars which I think was the most expensive military sale at the time, although this was to be a 10 year contract which included spares, engines and 714 Aim-54A missiles and the contract last 4 years from 1974 to 1978 before the revolution put a halt to the contract.

Iran paid for her orders in advance. Iran also saved Grumman from bankruptcy. The UK still owes Iran over £1 billion plus interests. The US was paid for 70 F16s that were not delivered to Iran and went to Israel. God knows how much Iranian money is still tied up in the west. The money that Obama paid the Mullahs for the so called nuclear deal, was just a part of what was confiscated from Iran in 1979.
