Anyway, me personally as the creator don't have anything against this video, it's good that you mentioned TAW in it. When making the app the main goal was spreading help to people to learn f15 quicker, which this video does. ;)

Yes, I plan on doing something similar for FA-18 when it comes out + when I learn it until perfection + 1-2 more months to actually code the tool in my free time

Another good vid. Just to add unless i've missed it elsewhere. The radar display type is called a B-scope radar. This effectively streches the point of origin of the radar energy along the entire bottom of the screen. Thus the vertical lines are actually bearing from the nose. The benefits are you get the full scan volume on screen out to the selected range and as the contacts get in close you still have good fidelity and easy identification of individual contacts. An A-scope display which would be the same as the top left left eedge in your video would have a lot of wasted space on a display and get confusing as things get close in. RWS is a simple ping to show where something is whilst TWS gives info such as height and velocity. The radar is required to dither on a target and revisit it frequently to keep decent info. It is not really anything to do with scan width other than a narrower scan width will allow the radar a faster update rate.

As usual a great video and a nice way of introducing people to the prospect of the Western style radar; a big thank you for any TAW members passing by. Something I would like to add to your brief introduction, if I may, is that contacts in the radar can be 'stacked' together; as the radar shows a top down view of the environment in front of the plane, any contacts that are closely together (occupy the relative same space) can be shown as a singular unit (radar return) on the screen. Hence, as a tip, I would always recommend quickly checking your target in TWS as well, regardless of which mode you wish to employ to utilize your AA ordinance.

My problem is knowing when to shoot which missiles. I'm in the F-15c and I cant seem to lock on with missiles of any kind unless I'm in visual range (less than 10 miles). I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I think I understand the radar well enough. But using it in conjunction with my weapons seems to be my hangup.

Hey even better but your first vid is was got me proficient with the f15 radar. I thought it was great. I'll even go so far as to say after getting a basic understanding of the radar and using it to compensate for a low resolution monitor, based off your tutorial I got respectably proficient with it....more so than my bfm at least.

I am having significant trouble locking the correct targets when enemies are tightly grouped. How am I supposed to correctly target, say, a Mig-29, when it seems like the targets are all stacked on each other and it's difficult to single a particular target out? Any advice?

I have same problem. real radar will have a De-clutter option I expect but not the DCS one.

can someone please explain why the display zoom can extend to 160nm but it seems the maximum the radar can sweep is 80nm????

Max usable radar range depends on size of target. Fighter = about 50 miles. Bomber = about 100miles. Zoom is just the display size.

@@grimreapers I appreciate the reply but that's not making a whole lot of practical sense to me. On this tool, it shows the end of the radar reaching 80nm, and when I'm at 160 display, half of the scanning zone seems to be outside the radar. so how could it possibly pick something up at a100nm?
