you should never, ever stop moving! besides you make yourself a sitting target, you were talking about being more accurate stationary, its the complete opposite, a ship, no matter its size will wallow in any swell when stationary

Does Sea Power have anything related to SONUS, or is that out of scope / not relevant / still classified enough that no useful information is available?

Amateur radio operators have all sorts of fun "playing games" with atmospheric effects like ducting (probably the cloest analogue to a thermocline). Among other things, while theh can interfere with reception "across layers", it can also channel signal (thus "ducting") to let you get past the horizon, because it can bend to follow the curvature of the earth. Also, anything that would show up on a weather radar _may_ interfere with other types, although I would expext that to depend heavily on frequency interactions. But something like a sandstorm seems like it would be fairly "opaque" to almost everything, given that the ground is rather infamously difficult to see through with anything that will reflect from metal...

Bravo Zulu Pony! I was a USN SWO with ASW specialty 78-93, Pony seems later. A couple comments: A submarine would hear the patrol plane long before it heard the bouy splash. Task force operations were split by warfare area - AW focused on anti-air, AS on ASW etc. MAD was used for triggering torpedo drop in an attack, Soviets in shallow waters did use it for search. Historically first used to great success in 1943 as search gear by Blimps operating in Straits of Gibraltar. In the early 80s DIFAR and DICASS were still rare, mostly we had LOFAR and CASS - no directional info. VLAD was just a future concept. Area search with fixed wing (Orions, Vikings etc) was always lines, because everything before Victor III were easily detected in CZ (convergence zone - a ~mile wide circle ~25 miles away from the bouys). Also, the patrol planes could only track 16 bouys at a time, helos only 4. So a 16 buoy line could effectively search an area 66 x 50 miles. A four bouy pattern was usually one in the center and three on a circle around it. And yes, ship dropped bouys were a thing when aircraft were not available - I did use them. Mk48s could be outrun, I did it on AUTEC. Also, until ADCAP they had real difficulty with surface targets. Same issue with Tigerfish - why the Belgrano ate Mk 8s. Prairie Masker worked beyond our wildest dreams - more lessons learned on AUTEC. Soviet and NATO ASW were two very different worlds - pretty much mirror images. We learned our lessons in mid-ocean blue water, they learned in shallow arctic waters, and what worked in one often did not work in the other. Our focus was on narrowband, theirs on broadband. Much was learned after the wall came down, they were far ahead of us on MAD and broadband.

Wondering if part of why MAD was so effective there was the ability to generate a "background map". Since anomalies occur naturally due to ferrous deposits in the ground, etc, I would think that having a map of all known / expected strengths would let you spot an "anomalous anomaly" much more reliably?

One tactic not discussed is recon by torpedo. When you were looking for the second sub, send a torpedo that way and as long as your wire is still connected you may find it or spook the other sub into a mistake.

The Special Committee on Decolonization (UN) declared that the Malvinas were subject to the decolonization process, urged in 1960 by the United Nations General Assembly. In 1965, Great Britain and Argentina began to negotiate the future of the islands within the framework of the UN: London recognized, in fact, the colonial status of the Falklands, its only argument for delaying the reintegration of the archipelago to Argentina was the will of the islanders. The Crown no longer claimed title to the islands. The right to self-determination, raised by Great Britain in favor of the islanders, only arises in the case of a population that demands its independence: something that the 1,800 inhabitants of the British colony never did or could do. That was the last argument of the British government, which since 1910 had been retreating from its positions - inaugurated in 1833 by Lord Palmerston with a firm defense of the right of sovereignty of the Crown - until reaching the point where the conflict was reached when, The April 2, Argentina occupied the islands.

London has known since 1910 that it has no right to the Falklands In 1910 and 1936, Foreign Office officials and lawyers issued opinions that questioned British claims to retain the Falklands. “It is not easy to explain our position without appearing to be international bandits,” said a 1936 memo. Britain never agreed to arbitration because its position had “certain weaknesses,” and the islands had to be preserved “for strategic reasons.” Shortly after the Falklands crisis arose, the British government removed all documents on the Falklands that were in the Public Record Office: an archive of official papers accessible to the public. The Sunday Times revealed on June 20, 1982 that, among the documents transferred to the Foreign Office, there are several in which officials from the British Foreign Ministry itself questioned the right of the United Kingdom over the Argentine Malvinas Islands.

The British Empire was the FIRST DRUG TRAFFICKING STATE IN THE WORLD During the Opium War, it was the conflict between China and Great Britain between the years 1839 and 1842. The trigger was the introduction into China of opium grown in India and marketed by the British East India Company, administrator of India. UK, had the support of the US who were mediators, who gave them the AM9L Sidewinder missiles that made the difference, allowing them to use Ascencion Island, despite all the help from the US, the Argentine pilots sank 7 English ships, the destroyers CL 42 HMS Sheffield and HMS Coventry, the frigates CL 21 HMS Ardent and HMS Antelope, and more than 24 ships of the Pirate fleet were seriously damaged, including the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible, which the UK never recognized due to the shame they felt when they were ridiculed in NATO.

The English Cowards invaded the Argentine Republic in 1806, and 1808, they were defeated by the military forces and the people who threw boiling water at them. The English ran away from Buenos Aires, they cowardly invaded us in 1833, taking our Malvinas Islands with a government legal, recognized by the British Empire in the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce of 1825 with the then United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata, and in 1845 an Anglo-French fleet invaded us again, and were repelled in the Vuelta de Obligado, Argentina never left to Claim for the Illegal Occupation of the British Empire of the Argentine Malvinas Islands, since the founding of the UN the Issue of the Malvinas Islands has been known as a Disputed Territory, the British Empire always delayed the negotiations and the Argentine Republic contributed to the construction of an Airport in Puerto Argentino Puerto Stanley medical services in Argentina and fresh food for the Kelpers, on two occasions the UK promised to return the islands and never followed through, forcing the War with the Argentine Republic, with the support of the US, which cowardly acted as a mediator. turns into supplier of AM9L Sidewinder missiles to the UK that made the difference, without US Help the UK lost the Falkland Islands war

Also Air Independent Propulsion does change the Diesel Electric game. It allows AIP diesels a lot more flexibility in using their diesel generators and makes AIP Diesels substantially more dangerous and hard to detect, they can charge the batteries without needing to be near the surface or otherwise use fuel cells which can generate electricity without needing external oxygen

Active sonar is like Active radar, activating it will give the enemy a really good idea where you are if not an exact position .Also the same thing applies as radar, they'll hear you long before you get a return on their position. Basically you should be very sparing with active sonar and use passive sensors or airborne sources to preserve your stealth as much as possible. It's better to use things the submarine can't shoot at to find and kill it.

Should drop a noise maker when you turn and accelerate as it makes a knuckle in the water. It's a defensive move if potentially being fired at.

Active sonar announces to any passive sonar listening in. You would give away approx range and bearing way before you would detect them. Think of active sonar as being a torch in a dark room, others can see you but you can only see what's in the cone of light.

Oh, Sea Power definitely can be enjoyable in player vs player multiplayer, the problem is people don't understand how to develop the proper scenarios for it. I've played a lot of such scenarios back in early 2000s and it did work just fine. Just don't expect to be doing a scenario crammed with large CVBG vs CVBG with +100 missiles in the air at the time and all other crap going on at the same time. The game has issues handling that now in single player.

19:43 the UK calls it the Eurofighter Typhoon and wanted everyone to call it the typhoon but the Germans were too happy about that since it’s named after the plane that fought them in WWII. the Germans call it the EF-2000 for eurofighter 2000 and most others called it that too, but in the UK aircraft aren’t given these sort of ID numbers for names.

I was chuckling at first about how silly it would be to launch a sonobuoy from a ship… if there is a sub within range, you’re already dead. But it could be interesting if you were in a setting where you were concerned there was a sub trailing you. Of course you’d want to delay the activation of the buoy in such a case.

I used it effectively on a number of occasions. LOFAR bouys could be monitored from 2-12 miles away and would see what the ship could not because of water conditions. Ocean temperature gradients create blind zones in very interesting patterns. Especially in the 80s subs were not the wonder weapons civilians think they are.

That was a pleasantly quiet mission, I liked it very much! Unfortunately in the last video of Cap playing Sea Power. Repeating phrases like, (You go here, You shoot him, You attack that, etc.) for what seems to be the entire video is honestly starting to give me a headache, I'm sure a lot of viewer's love that content. These are just some of my opinions and experiences watching the GrimReapers for the last 4 plus years now. Yes I havent been here from the beginning, but should this channel really be changing slowly from its Core DCS Video's over to Sea Power Video's? Just a thought! While I believe Sea Power should really have it's own seperate Grim Reapers KZbin Channel. Not only so us Valued Viewer's can decide to turn notifications on or off depending on their preferences between the two completely different Games/Sim's. Mostly because I can see those who are here for the DCS Content choosing to leave if it swings towards one side to much. Certainly now that the channel is split between two differnt versions of content, although they are still slightly simular. I digress about Sea Power, this video just got me thinking about the Channel. Maybe some agree, disagree, or would like to elaberate. That said, today's video was a very nice mission to watch and relax to in the middle of the night at 2:00am from Canada. I really do love these Campaign's, especially the Dune campaign personally. It would be amazing to see more of this content with more frequent uploads if the focus was changed back to more DCS. I mean even if some missions are just supply missions that may seem to boring, with or without much fighting. They're still part of a greater storyline that are much more creative, entertaining, and easy to follow along too. Campaign Missions with the unique storylines made by the Grim Reapers vs. Sea Power have to be much better in my opinion. It would also be cool if at all possible to do more with the other Grim Reapers Player's footage, like Personal Cam View's from some past videos. Especially if Cap perfers to be a spectator more often into the New Year/Future, but obviously still keeping with the regular way things are recorded. Like the use of map view while also jumping from Player to Player, also AI as well as any targets. That's all great and Cap records well, never missing much while we are watching. I mean live streams would be better for instant and direct communication. As well as help from channel members when Cap talks to his Valued Viewingtons. There are a lot of reasons to do it from both Cap's prespective and our perspective. Unfortunately that requires a lot of free time on Cap's part which is understandably difficult. I hope you had a great Birthday, with a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to come shortly...

This reminds me of the hysteria surrounding strategic bombing prior to WW2. In Britain, many were convinced that large-scale strategic bombing of civilian targets would end the war within hours, very similar to Cold War attitudes towards nuclear weapons. The reality of course was that simply bombing a country into surrender was virtually impossible. I don't blame Mark Felton for holding this old misconception - it is a lesson even top American and British military leaders seem to keep needing to relearn every 20 years or so!
