@jbower93127 жыл бұрын
They may launch all at once, but the jet wash is probably not preferred on takeoff. Flying in a war zone vs a civilian shared airspace the rules may change a little. The last one had two wing fuel tanks and he may be the flight lead, just a guess. He also has more fuel capacity. If linking up with a air born fuel tanker, the flight lead would typically fuel first and then a 2nd time after all his flight wing topped off, this also depends on enemy threats and mission goals.

This is Tucson International. Those are the Catalina Mountains in the background. The Ad Nat Guard operates the 162d TFW from the airport and handles all transition training for the Air Guard and the A.F. Reserve. Also handle transition training for foreign users (about 16 countries). This was a training mission, which is fairly common. A-10s operate out of Davis-Monthan A.F.B. which is about eight miles to the northeast.

For them to keep their instrument qualifications, they have to use their instruments to land at dissimilar airfields ('unfamiliar') so that they rely only on instruments rather than instinct. I'm sure this was probably why they were 'transient' at that airfield rather than DMAFB.

Heheh, it does look funny. :) But yeah, it's the signal that he's "in position". You seen the head motion repeated up the line to the lead. Then you'll see the lead jet do a chopping command, with the element lead (two-seater) twirling his fingers for engine run-up/ on brakes.
@Tac0Tuesday917 жыл бұрын
spins321 I could say I know a lot about military stuff but I'm not 100% about how they communicate. I know they use signals but I'm not sure
@spins3217 жыл бұрын
Hahah, yeah they do look funny. Fighter pilots use alot of head and hand motions as they try to minimize radio comms. I'm more familiar with Marine/Navy signals, but the head knob just basically means "ok", and in this case, they're acknowledging up the line that they're all together, in position, ready to go. When the lead gives a signal, they pass the acknowledgment down the line again (more head bobbing). Being a 4-ship, they're split into 2 sections, with the section leads being on the left. So, you kinda have 2 bosses with the main boss being in the front left. The second boss twirls his finger to tell the last guy to run his engines up to get ready to go flying. It's really neat to see hand signals. it's even cooler to see pilots use their entire aircraft to signal to wingmen of formation changes or turns or what type of turns to perform. :)
@fsi121210 жыл бұрын
This isn't a scramble. They have test missiles under the wings. You NEVER fly test missiles on alert status. If anything, they were just late for their takeoff time (99% of the time) and tower just allowed them to go first.

Get a landscaping job on an Airforce base. I was cutting out some brush and bushes around the jets' wash station the other day when an f22 taxied out onto the run way and I had the opportunity to watch him take off from about 70 yards away. It was like a drag race times 10.

I had to wait a minute on a flight for a group of fighters. Was kinda neat. I was already on the plane and it was my last flight so no stress from me. Just got to enjoy the little show.

There are blue stripes on the other Sidewinders, indicating they're training rounds. If you see a yellow stripe where that blue stripe is, usually accompanied by a brownish/'rusty'-colored stripe further down the length of the missile, that's a live round carrying a live warhead with a full load of solid propellant.

Captain's announcement should have been "Excuse me ladies and gentlemen, I just need to pull over here for a moment to allow your tax dollars to take off to defend your freedom!"

We haven't "defended our freedom" in many decades. We've taken far more freedoms from ourselves and others

+gamerx9191 He appeared to be having problems getting something(s) up to the safe take off readings. No sense in rushing to a possible ejection.

No, he opted to let his buddies get ahead so he could give everyone in the passenger aircraft a show by putting it in burner. ;)
@chipfla9336 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing he dropped his keys.
@kencalled6 жыл бұрын
He had wing tanks which requires afterburner on takeoff, the other three were centerline tanks which only require mil power, which is obviously slower.. He was waiting for them to get out of his way, essentially.

When your flight is stopped on the runway so 4 f-16’s can take off in afterburner and ARMED with air to air missiles something was going on or in question. Bad ass!!!!! God I Love our Armed Forces!!!
