The E/F Flu has a new Brazilian wide-screen display, the WAD, Wide Area Display (wide or wide-screen display). This technology allows displaying a continuous image throughout its entire length combining various flight and attack information, and capable of receiving input from multifunctional keys and touch screen. Such a display enhances what fighter pilots call “tactical situational awareness,” the ability to sense elements over space and time and make decisions. In terms of displays for fighter planes, the WAD is the most advanced in this segment. Only one fighter plane uses this technology in the world so far, the Lockheed Martin F-35. Next up will be the Gripen E. In addition to the WAD, AEL Sistemas will also supply Swedish (and Brazilian) fighters with Head-Up Display (HUD) systems and the Helmet Mounted Display (HMD), a monitor mounted on the pilot's helmet that allows “marking” targets air just nodding.

Against the Saab Gripen E/F fighter the F-16 doesn't stand a chance, as the Gripen E/F carries a variety of active and passive measures to interrupt enemy efforts and protect itself and other friendly units. Its advanced electronic warfare system, similar to an electronic shield, allows you to block the enemy's ability to function effectively. This can be used to aid in destroying enemy targets or simply to reduce the enemy's understanding and responsiveness. All this ensuring the success of the mission, using the latest weapons and countermeasures. Gripen E/F reduces its probability of being detected by relying on its passive sensors or through active interference, also known as “active stealth”. The new Gripen has a new electronic architecture (Net Centric Warfare - NCW) considered ten times faster than its competitors. The new PPLI (Participant Precise Location and Identification) central system connects all internal and external sensors (AESA Raven Radar, IRST, EW and ATFLIR pod) and offers the best responses to threats. Its enhanced Electronic Warfare (EW) system, known as the MFS-EW (Multi Functional System), is based on the EW product family called Arexis. Arexis employs developed digital broadband technology. Arexis' core technologies are ultra-wideband digital receivers and digital radio frequency memory (DRFM) devices, active electronic scanning (AESA) solid state gallium nitride (GaN) jammer transmitters, and interferometric direction detection systems. DRFM works by digitally capturing the radar-guided threat signature and then emitting an interfering signal to confuse the attacking missile, often giving it a “false target”. Electronic protection is provided in the frequency range ranging from 0.5 GHz up to 40 GHz. The MFS-EW is built to handle the signal environment of today and tomorrow using ultra-wideband digital receivers, advanced signal processing and extensive processing power that can distinguish real threat signals from others. The MFS EW is fully integrated with other tactical mission systems on board the aircraft, and there is also sensor fusion in various layers of the aircraft, combining all tactical sensors in the Gripen E, such as AESA radar, electro optical sensors, IRST as well as data link. These sources and sensors are integrated into a high-level system of sensor fusion and situational awareness so the pilot can effectively carry out the mission. Equipped with an intelligent avionics architecture, old algorithms can be replaced with new ones without reducing the aircraft's high availability. The architecture is also the foundation for making rapid hardware and weapon upgrades

Heres the problem for the clever Swedes. Keep in mind the Swedish population is only around 10 million. Political pressure will be leveraged against Sweden by the US making it difficult to sell their very capable jets to other countries.
