Love your videos. You helped me get into DCS after several failed attempts since LockOn FC2. Even your greeting at the start is like an antidepressant. :)

Although mentioned in another excellent GR Cap video ("SOI" & MFD) upload. Set "SOI" to the HUD DMS up, to allow the RDR cursor movement in the HUD.

A-10 was/is very different. The whole point of the ATG (Air-To-Ground) pipper is to "lock" the co-ordinates of a ground target into the HUDWAC with the aim (pardon my pun) to be able to make sighting passes or release and engage into modes such as air-to-air yet the ground target remains "pickled" despite the position and orientation of the delivery platform (in this case an F-16). This was by no means an easy feat; there are a number of "planes of axis" that have to be captured and stored at the point of the "pickle" in order to track said ground target no matter what "we" do in our platform - the theory being we can go off and do some A2A and then come back later and the ATG piper (that little box with the dot in the middle) will float back onto our HUD display as if nothing intervening had happened. And that is exactly what it does. Such bonkers algorithms were not available at the time of the HUDWAC for A-10, the priority was more of keeping the Gunsight Reticle on target with all that recoil from that dragon's breath! Believe me, A-10 and F-16 are huge leaps apart, yet each stands it's ground for its chosen arena in combat, something we excelled at back in the '80s and '90s.

This is quite a decent tutorial considering the limits of the simulation and the information you and the developers are privy to. The devs should be proud of this rendition of the complex mathematics that went into this system which you should be referring to as the HUDWAC - Head Up Display and Weapons Aiming Computer. The likes of CCIP, CCRP and LCOS were closely guarded secrets during development and for many years after - indeed, the room that we wrote and tested these hugely complex algorithms was referred to by those involved as "Tom's Midnight Garden", a reference we created to a UK BBC children's television programme and for anyone at Rochester not affiliated to any F-16 HUDWAC project version were oblivious too. However, some of the symbology you reference is not correct; a simple example being what you are referring to as the "Flight Path Marker" - this is wrong, it is the "Flight Path VECTOR" - they imply two completely different things. I really enjoyed watching this video as to me it was a heartwarming jolt of my past and releases the mathematical magic that I had to keep my mouth shut about yet is now available on a platform as simple as a PC. We had a poster on our wall during Block-60 that read "LIBYA"... and under each letter read "Lakenheath Is Bombing You Arse". Great times, cool to see something like this being used as "entertainment" - our PMs would have gone nuts!!! ;)

Lol actually, if you re-watch, you missed because your SPI was slightly to the right of the road. This combined with the fact aircraft shakes during the drop, did it.

Surely you would use CCRP in a climb to lob the bomb right heh ? (been a long time since i have done any flight sim stuff)

Yeah called toss bombing...to avoid overflying a heavily defended target, or because of the increased flight time of the bomb to avoid the blast effect better - good for nukes

Hello, in CCRP I use the RDR cursor as in the video to aim the target. How could I move my steerpoint to a new target if it is far from my previous destination? It's very impractical with the RDR cursor. thank you :)

Loong time ago i played Falcon 4.0. How is this f16 compared to it in realism?
@jasonosmond68965 жыл бұрын
Falcon 4.0 is still alive and kicking, through BMS. It's far more realistic than DCS, and even still very pretty due to many updates, though there are limits due to the age of the original engine.
@firecat47345 жыл бұрын
Yes Falcon BMS is still excellent and going strong. But, do not forget this is still WIP and will catch up with (BMS) and only get better with more detail and interaction being added over time. So is it worth getting? Yes. Also to keep up with the updating and learning curve. As the F18C is still WIP and improving all the time so will the F16C with all the terrain maps and a larger on-line MP community to support it.
@firecat47345 жыл бұрын
@@SuperCookiemonser Its WIP you could have waited 12 months. If you have any experience with ED you know, if like you, you want everything upfront now, wait that length of time, maybe more, and you will get it. I, however, enjoy the F18C and the F16C and today they have released updates to both.WIP.

@@kestrel16c32 They came in extremely low and fast and needed to put bombs on the most critical places. CCRP doesn't provide that precision. As I understand it the first waves bombs breached the containment building while the second wave put bombs through those holes to get inside and destroy the reactor. CCRP just doesn't provide that accuracy. I'll search around for more info. Edit: Here's an article by the Times of Israel on the strike. If you scroll down there's HUD footage that clearly shows they're in CCIP mode when releasing bombs. www.timesofisrael.com/35-years-on-iaf-pilots-recall-daring-mission-to-bomb-saddams-nuke-reactor/

Did everything you did and nothing. Did not work. Weapon release trigger yes? Are we going to use the abreviated names or the full names because that doesn't help us find the keybinds and sure makes us utilize extra time man. I know this is 4 years old but this is getting annoying. I am trying to learn and I spend more time searching for keybinds that go by a different name than what is being told.
