Watching an aircraft perform like this I am awed by the fact that those large, yet remarkably thin control surfaces aren't just ripped right off of the plane. Imagine the structural engineering it takes to allow them to hold up under the stress!

Yes the plane & pilot are incredibly skilled and a marvel of modern engineering. But mad respect for being able to film that. Saw an F-35 at an airshow this summer and tried to even get a few good photos. Basically gave up and decided to just enjoy the show as it was just moving too fast. How you could capture this is a skill of it's own. Good job sir!

Maybe unpopular opinion,but I have no idea what the "falling leaf" maneuver is supposed to look like. All I see is a zoomed in jet that is rotating on a couple of axis. Might as well be watching a graphic effects artist manually rotate a CGI render of the jet in 3DS Max or something.
@tombchaser
@tombchaser 4 ай бұрын
@@jeremyb465 the jet is purposely being stalled (cutting throttle to basicly idle and if needed speed brakes are used as well) what causes the jet to basicly fall out of the sky. it becomes a falling leaf like motion by using the rudder from 1 side to the other side to prevent a out-of-control helical spin towards the ground. it usually takes the controls to their maximum limits to get the plane to respond. if performed at a low altitude 1 mistake/error can easily cause a crash.

In 10 years they'll still be doing this, just like they were 10 years ago. F22 demos never fail to amaze, but the design has been in service for 25+ years and nothing better is on the horizon. I fear we may never see anything better. The age of the air superiority fighter might be over and the age of drones kinda sucks the purpose out of planes like this. Sad, but true.

I’ve seen this aircraft demonstrated twice at 2 different military air shows. It’s extremely impressive, what it’s capable of. Mind blowing things that airplanes aren’t supposed to be able to do, like stopping in the sky and just hanging there in position and then levelling off in place, turning like it’s on a turntable, still not moving forward and then blasting off in the new direction. And that wasn’t even the weirdest thing I saw it do! It’s super creepy and super cool at the same time. It’s very intimidating.

Wow! that’s truly impressive to watch. Obviously the pilot has to be congratulated for his training and abilities to put this plane through its paces. Imagine the look on Orville and Wilbur’s faces seeing this fly over after their historic flight at Kitty Hawk and the F22 pilot says “ hold my beer”.😳😮🙄😬

Crazy. That must be so much fun if you could do it. I am retired, but for 20 years I worked for a Chicago based company. Every other year or so they would hold the summer outing on the Friday before the Air & Water Show, which is a practice day for the military jets. The company rented a cruise size ship for a couple of hundred of us. Invariably the jets would buzz the ship out on Lake Michigan for kicks. Ours and theirs. I’m sure it was well within the safety zone, but it sure got loud.

The amount of power to pull out of that fall leaf always blows my mind. Amazing thrust. Glad i'm on this side lol

It always amazes me that something that was built, completely with only functionality in mind, could be so breathtakingly beautiful. Why is that?

love the falling leaf manoeuvre so much, and while not as showy, the high alpha pass is also a fave. havent had the pleasure of seeing the f22 in person at shows yet. We had the f35 out which had some great flare manoeuvres for the crowd but it would be nice to see it's predecessor at least once XD

WOW props to pilot, airplane and cameraman. To a pilot of this or other high performance aircraft, I know this is a seriously demanding demonstration both mentally and physically. Does this ever stop being an awesome blast?

Very grateful to live next to the city of Huntington Beach. Hat's off to the mayor, city officials , and law enforcement , in making H.B. a very safe, and exciting city to visit. They brought in the air shows years ago, along with surf boarding events, concerts, festivals on main street , fine dinning , and everything else. Always loved the air shows , a great place to see these talented , hardworking , pilots. God , bless America.

As impressive as it may be, I doubt any potential enemies plane/pilot combo can even come close to competing with a US Navy or AF pilot and a much cheaper F-15/16/18!

Nice vid thx. Flying one here on Flight Simulator: its amazing. I suspect it’s easy to get over-confident, testing it’s incredible limits, because they are so damn powerful and nimble. One feels like anything is possible! -Probably it’s best that I stick to the simulator. Haha. Cheers!

YESS! Just the other day I talked to my dad after he got back from this air show in Huntington, and he told me about the F22 that opened its bomb bay doors as it passed by, and I was like “man I wish I was there, I love air shows” and low and behold, I find a video of it on KZbin 😅

That is un effing believable. Craziest maneuvers I have ever seen. Can see why Maverick said that his F14 wouldn’t have a prayer against these gen fighters. Incredible

no they would'nt , i was stationed on the USS EISENHOWER, although F14 were fantastic aircraft they would definitly lose in a dogfight, but that also depends on the experience of the pilot!

@@user-ej5bd4oq5v A US vs US pilot duel would be amazing but not an f14 vs a raptor. You can’t do anything with a plan that can come to a stop, fall out of the air for thousands of feet before changing directions to shoot down the Tomcat at the base of the said horizontal falling leaf maneuver. WTF. It would never get to that anyway because the F22 would knock the Tomcat out of the sky from longer distance while being mostly invisible. 😬😬😬😬😎🔥🔥🔥

Fantastic display all the maneuvers to show off the F22 capabilities with the inputs of an experienced pilot, not forgetting a nice bit of☁ fluffage ☁between each set.💯 Not to forget the photography 👏👌
