1. Overview
F-35 is a multipurpose combat aircraft designed to perform strike missions. F-35 comes with 3 variants F-35A, F-35B and F-35C, all with different functions... On the other hand, the Su-57 is a fifth generation air-superiority aircraft designed to destroy all types of air, ground and naval targets. As of today, Sukhoi has developed 10 prototypes and 2 serial units.
2. Design & Stealth
The F-35 is 51.4ft in length and 14.4ft in height, while the wingspan of the aircraft is 35ft. The airframe was designed with lowest possible RCS and the jet is coated with radar-absorbent materials...
On the contrary, the SU-57 is a bigger plane measuring 66ft in length and 15ft in height. The aircraft comes with wingspan of 46ft. The SU-57 design emphasizes on frontal stealth instead of all-aspect stealth aircraft. The airframe of the jet was designed with sharper edge alignments to reduce the RCS...
3. Performance
The F-35 is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney engine producing 43,000 pounds of thrust. With the help of this engine, the aircraft can flies vertically into the sky. The jet can gain top speed of Mach 1.6. The aircraft has maximum range of 1,700mi and can perform combat operations within the radius of 770mi.The F35 can climb at rate of 45,000 ft/min and can reach at maximum altitude of 50,000ft.
On the other side, the SU-57 is powered by a pair of afterburning turbofan engines generating 64,000 pounds of thrust combined. These engines can push the aircraft to top speed of Mach 2. The fighter jet has a maximum range of 2175mi on internal fuel. While combat radius of the aircraft is classified, however some defense analysts estimate it around 750mi. The Su-57 can climb at a pace of 70,800 ft/min and reach at a maximum height of 66,000ft.
4. Maneuverability
As per the F-35 manufacturer, the maneuvering restrictions imposed initially are now removed. The jet can perform high angle of attack maneuvers…
On the other hand, SU-57 performs very high angles of attack maneuvers such as the Pugachev's Cobra, bell maneuver and flat rotations…
5. Radar & Avionics
The F35 is equipped with latest AN/APG-81 radar capable of tracking 23 targets in 9 seconds and engaging 19 of them in 2.4 seconds. The range of F35 radar is confidential; however some defense analysts believe that the radar can detect an 11sqft target from 250 to 300mi.
Meanwhile, the SU-57 is equipped with AESA radar capable of detecting and tracking in the presence of electronic countermeasures. With the help of X- and L-band modes, the aircraft can even detect hostile stealth aircraft. The estimated range of the radar to detect a11 sqft target is around 249mi. So, everyone ultimately comes up against that physical limit and evens the field. The SU-57 will definitely win a close combat dog fight or any other scenario. Its front view is very intimidating, such as in the Top Gun 2 movie. Its safe to say that its maneuverability cant be beaten by any other jet out there but that is all for the capabilities of the pilot flying it.

It wouldn't win in a close combat dog fight, at least not very easily like you are saying. F-35 has 360 degree IRST, factor in that the newer aim-9x blocks are just as good if not better than the R-73 you get a merge that would likely end in both pilots dying or one pilot getting lucky. The dog fight is not done with guns, it's done with high off boresight fox-2's that do all the maneuvering. It's not even worth mentioning though, because the Su-57 is terrible beyond visual range, it's "stealth" is not stealth, it's a 4.5 gen with some radar absorbent material. If your somehow in a dog fight with a Su-57, a lot of things went wrong. Just to list some: Somehow your AWACs failed to warn you about a Su-57 engaging you, which is almost impossible. Somehow your wingman didn't detect the Su-57 either. Somehow you failed to lock the Su-57 after realizing it was closing in. And finally, ironically somehow you even saw a Su-57 since there's only about 10 of them flying in the world, 9 of which are busy doing air show tricks.

More than that, it depends on the nature of the battlefield. In a beyond visual range engagement (which is what all modern engagements are now) the F-35 is going to win because it has superior avionics, superior tracking, and superior stealth. In a dogfight (which is highly unlikely), the SU-27 is going to win because it can outturn and outmaneuver the F-35.

F35 vs Su57 isn't really a good comparison. One's meant for BVR and networking, while the other is meant for Air Superiority. A better comparison between to nations would be the F22 and the Su57; both of which were designed for Air Superiority

SU-57 will detect them before they enter BVR attack range of their respective long range A/A rockets regardless of angle of their approach as it has radars on the wings screening flanks of the aircraft as well. It uses L- band for LR detection I believe, it's not weapons grade detection but it alerts SU-57 that stealth plane is there. so he can alter course and engage it, switching to front X-band radar and use its longer reach perspective long range hypersonic rockets which not even F-22 can not outrun.

Aside from my take on which one wins, I absolutely love the SU 57's looks and aerobatics. If it has American stealth coating and avionics, I would pit that against most anything.

American stealth technology is called "Magnetic Wave Diffraction". Created by Russian scientist Ufimtsev. Recognized as unpromising in the USSR. Very thick coating and works in a narrow range. Do you know why ASML was created in Europe to produce lithographs and modern microchips? It would be more logical to produce in the USA. Lithography using inert gases Soviet development. Tanks might also be on their way out, although a lot of money is still being sunk on them. Now it is all cheap, fast missiles and drones that think for themselves in swarming attacks. I watched an impartial analysis of the F-35 and Su-57 from an American expert. he said that US marketers indicated the smallest wave of reflection of radio beams from the F-35 hull, while the Russians indicated the largest wave of reflection from the surface of the Su-57. that is, if we compare seriously, the F-35 is more visible to radars than the Su-57. but the Su-57 also has additional equipment for detecting targets without radar exposure, which allows it to detect a target without revealing its presence. In addition, the Su-57 has additional radars on the wings.

Growling Sidewinder (another KZbinr) actually did some videos of this in DCS. Both airplanes are mods (not original to the game) so I'm sure it's not accurate, but it's fun to watch the two kings of hill duke it out. As far as F35 vs SU57... BVR, the 35 might... MIGHT win. It's stealthier. In a dogfight, the SU57 will force a two circle fight and smoosh the F35 every time. The F35 is more on par with an F16 in a dogfight. Not terrible, but not terribly impressive either. The F22 is about on par with the Su57 in terms of maneuverability. A little less maybe, but... it bleeds less energy, so unless the Su57 can make a quick kill, the F22 is going to get it, all things being equal. Things are never equal. The 22 and 57 are both amazing fighter jets.

The Russians claim that the Su-57 is super maneuverable, but so far it has not shown anything impressive that you’d actually see in real combat. The maneuvers that matter most are high-g turns, both sustained and instant, top-end speed, and the ability to recover from high bleed turning, none of which you’ll find in any Su-57 demonstration. Going low and slow performing low-g maneuvers won’t cut it in real combat, and will only make the pilot a sitting duck. I’ve seen both the F-22 and F-35 performing more h-g turns than any Su-57. Russians like to boast about their aircraft having super agility, but if you watch none of them demonstrate sheer power, which is what’s needed for dogfighting.

There are quite a few articles about how successful the F-35 is at when dogfighting, and quite frankly its maneuvers at airshows are a hell of a lot more impressive than the Su-57s. The F-35 has displayed much better high-g turns and shows it’s incredible power. All the Su shows is that it can go low and slow performing low-g maneuvers. Hell, the Su hasn’t even shown the ability to shoot its guns or air to air missiles in flight from its internal bays. And yes, the F-35 does have HMS, plus its pilots have binocular vision, the ability to see clearly at night, and they can see through the aircraft, which gives them a huge advantage, plus they can que their missiles, and link to other fighter’s missiles to shoot down their adversaries. Only the F-35B doesn’t have a gun, but a gun pod can be mounted if necessary.

@@AKlover The F-35 is not good at a rate fight, predominantly used in 2 circle fights. With most aircraft having off-boresight missiles and HMD, this would result in mutual kills. Where the F-35 excels is in high alpha or 1 circle fights, which matters a lot more. Where it suffers though is in energy recovery, or so I've heard With that being said, I like how you immediately assume a dogfight just to discount its BVR capabilities. The Su-57 would have to survive getting into the merge to even attempt wvr. Even with its IRST, the Su-57 wouldn't be able to detect it soon enough to matter

In a dogfight, the SU-57 would dominate a 1 on 1 fight. With only 12 operational planes, the SU-57 would more than likely face a squadron of F-35s and never go one-on-one. I personally think the sensor fusion suite and data sharing platforms are the most valuable aspects of a 5th gen fighter. These days multi-band RADAR schemes with data uplinks enable enhanced visibility of stealth aircraft. Where an engagement takes place matters so much more. The Su-57 RADAR visibility is much reduced headon anyway. It's use as a bomber therefore is still viable. Seems standoff attacks are going to be the preferred strategy of use of these aircraft in contested airspace anyway. That's how the Israelies keep using them. Why risk the aircraft close up when the missiles can be launched from safe airspace.

Sounds like more things the F35 can detect from a greater distance... Which is what everyone seems to forget.. There is not going to be a traditional dogfight in these Jets. F-22 is an air superiority fighter jet, just like Su-57. And AFAIK F-22 have avoided detection flying RIGHT THROUGH RUSSIAN AIRSPACE on multiple occasions. Therefore Su-57 would be down before it even realizes what hit him. F-35 however is not an air superiority fighter. It's a multirole fighter. But seeing as Russians traditionally have trouble building modern radars, I wouldn't expect it to be able to detect an F-35, certainly not over its own territory where it can gain access to ground radar data. Also building a couple prototypes then never proving they can actually do what Russians CLAIM they can is traditional Soviet disinformation tactics.

If the F-35 doesn't have the third turbo engine in the middle. Than it's the F-22. But there are 3 versions of the F-35. One should be for the Navy and the last for the Army. Anyways both airplanes has her advantages and disadvantages. The 3 markable Advantages of the SU-57, are the two more powerful engines. With a very high speed of 3500km/h. Against the 1600km/h. Than the better maneuverability, and the better long range. But the USA operating the F-35, as the F-22, I do assume since 2016. So 7 years earlier in one very large scale of 560 units. The Russian has the SU-57 since a couple of year's ago. Together with the SU-30/35. Very few units and less experience. I'd say they would only stay in the experience position in about 7 years or more. But they would never had the possibility to produce so much units, as the Americans. They haven't such a strong economy. The old frivalvry fom the cold war will stay forever. Now we do have a new global player on the board. The Chinese Military. China has grown maybe 150% since the last 20 year's. On the economy. And they're proudness grows too. They work very fast. And had made good product's since the last 3-4 year's. They learn from their errors. They want to be the new leadership in the world. On both sides, military and economy. I think in the next 5 year's we would see one very serious nuclear power. They're larging and renewing their navy to the newest point. To face the US Navy. And do the same with cruise missiles and airplanes. They want to invade Taiwan, to add this piece of land to their own. This is very dangerous. I saw this as the current most dangerous third world war scenario. As the Ucranian Russian Conflict. You do not fly fast in combat if you want to avoid tracking missiles, because of turn radius of the plane...fast fly...less agility....Thrust vectoring is for close battle and dogfight will probably be on lower speeds

No. There are many great pilots who had simulated fights against the F35 in F15 ,F16, F18 and lost. The first few F16 vs F35 were one sided and the F35 lost, but those reasons are well know. The only area the F35 loses in is very close dogfighting using guns. It isnt impossible to shoot it down, but the attrition is very one sided. If both pilots are very experienced and skilled, the F35 wins almost every time. I dont know how likely an inexperienced F35 pilot would see combat vs anything else.

The F-35 wasn't built to be a special individual fighter jet. It was built to be a mass produced pack hunter. I'm a big fan of the program, but I'd still like to se the US build another 150 F-22 Raptors with upgraded open architecture software. I don't buy for 1 second that the US won't need a true air superiority fighter, with China on the rise. Also, with Japan and European countries developing Gen 5, and 6 tech, you have to stay ahead, because your friend one day, and become your foe tomorrow. The SU-57 is an awesome plane. It's main problem is the lack of production capacity, but that could change rapidly if Russia cuts a deal with some of it's friend nations. If they were willing to sell them to China, I'd bet China could help them produce 100 in a year.

Who said that the US doesn't need air superiority fighters? It's definitely not the US. Otherwise they won't be buying more and more F-15EX units. It is completely pointless to make F-22 5.5 gen fighter when the 6th gen is right around the corner. Within less than 10 years according the US estimates they could field a 6th gen fighter with next gen radar, engines, stealth coating, open architecture for easier improvements and drone swarm capabilities. Also according to the US the fighter is on time. Given all that there is absolutely no point in restarting the F-22 program with all the new technologies and improvements to make it a more recent machine. It would take time and money which could be otherwise spared for the 6th gen program. Not to mention F-22 is being used for testing of new technologies like engines, radars and coatings. There are even pictures of modified F-22 likely using 6th gen technologies for testing purposes. SU-57 looks great but inside is rotten. You don't need to be part of the program to know that. They took so many years to develop something the Americans had for decades and they are still struggling to make the so important engines for that plane. The Americans are already looking forward to replace the F-135 with the XA-100 adaptive cycle engine. Keep in mind that Izdelye-30 even on paper is not as good as F-135 or even its older brother the F-119 in F-22. Russia is also struggling to develop a powerful but also compact AESA radar for the jet. The 2+ decades old APG-77 has more T/R units than the radar inside SU-57. We know that because we have pictures of both radars. Even the smaller APG-81 has more T/R units. I can't even imagine the new APG-85 - the replacement of the APG-81 which would also be built with GaN semiconductors. In other words Russia is falling behind rather quickly. That's to be expected. The Russian IT sector is around 33 billion dollars. That nothing! In comparison the US IT sector is 1.8 trillion dollars! The difference is so massive that both cannot even be remotely compared. Russia is forced to import components from abroad because it simply doesn't have the capacity to make these products. The biggets problem I believe is with the semiconductors. They can make only very basic designs. You can look at some processors like the Baikal. Their latest BE-M1000 is close to performance to low-end smartphone CPU based on 28nm fabrication from TSMC. And it is not like it is based on Russian core desings. It is actually based on ARM core cortex core desing. So basically the Russians can design semiconductors only based on off-the-shelf designs from the market.

You should have compared SU-57 to F-22 not the F-35. The F-35 is a multirole aircraft that mostly would be used for CAS while the F-22 is a air superiority fighter specifically designed to secure air superiority much like the SU-57.
