MCLOS can be quite effective and sophisticated. Broadly there are two types: acceleration control where the guidance operates the control surfaces directly (which is difficult) and velocity control where the missile has an autopilot referenced to true north and level and the missile is given a compass heading by the command link. This makes it much easier. If you keep the gun sight reticle on the target the mssile will fly in the correct direction. The missile control joystick need only then nudge the missile back to target.

In DCS, yes, the damage to that ship was minimum. But in real life, that weapon hitting the control tower/bridge would have crippled that ship. Maybe not a warship, but a civilian spec ship is not designed to deal with damage like that. Just a wire harness cut would have stopped it dead in its tracks. And the resulting fires would have consumed what was left. I guess my point is not to judge a weapon by its performance in DCS or any other sim. But, DCS is the system we have so what you need to do to make it more realistic is set a trigger that explodes the target upon being hit.
