So the difference between the GBU8 and a Maverick is that the GBU8 has a 2000lbs warhead and the Maverick around 300lbs? Because the deployment kind of looks like a Maverick without the rocket boost.

You can also carry 6 mavericks, they both have there uses, but the GBU8 is definitely an impressive weapon

However, you cannot slew the GBU-8'S seeker and have to aim with the boresight.

I can do everything except drop it. Everything is on, everythings correct, i can get the lock but i cant drop it. the bomb does not come off the wing.

What was the actual value of this weapon in Vietnam considering the dangers of flying at that height in what was essentially a COIN war (well to begin with at least). Also did the Soviets have anything comparable to this in that same era?

The advantage was huge when going after infrastructure targets like bridges that are hard to hit with unguided weapons. I’ve seen videos of US planes diving through thick AA to drop bombs that still missed. With this a single plane could drop a bomb outside the range of a lot of the AA and nail the target. In Vietnam it would still be part of a well coordinated mission of SAM suppression and CAP, no lone wolf mission. I’m not aware of a Soviet TV guided weapon in that era, but they did have the Kh-66 Grom missile that was fired from the MiG21 and would follow the radar to the target. Big difference is that the MiG must stay pointed at the target to impact.

I think theres a bug where sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Ive replayed the "Stalins Old House" mission with a few different loadouts and tried mavs and hobos, used the Mavs to disable AAA and then tried switching to the hobos and couldnt get a lock.

Hey there, not related to the video at all. But I do know you and your group and very familiar with the realism aspects of DCS. I was wondering, another game a play recently added FOX-3's to their game and I had a situation where I was shot down by an R-77 while on the runway going less than 100 kmph. Is something like that possible? I know some ground based radar missiles can engage ground targets but I haven't seen anything on an air launched radar missile taking out ground targets.

It is possible for a Fox-3 to hit a target on the ground if it is moving fast enough. All these systems now use pulse-Doppler radars that look for movement and as long as you are moving fast enough relative to the missile it will track you. All these systems have a minimum limit (notch filter) but that range is probably a secret. If your game just used a naïve implementation then there may be no filter and it’s just cheaty

my current 30 series card (with an ancient i5 6500) can run it in vr... drop the pretty stuff until it runs smoothly, and dont think the homebrand aircraft are as good quality as the premium priced ones. if going for vr, get the f16 with its bubble canopy.

@@joejoe2658 ok i’m not into computers like at all so idk what that’s means. also i was thinking about the F-16, F-22, YF-23, SU-47, and some others but the planes are prolly gonna cost another pc in total lol

@@arguy3297 ok. I have done some research. I used apex gaming pcs bc it has an easy builder but every time I do one it costs up to 2k-6k which I think is a little much for DCS. Also I know they are mods I just want a pc that can handle them and big wars he has done
