F/A-18 Super Hornets are recovered aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) while underway in the Arabian Gulf. Bush is operating in the Arabian Gulf on a scheduled deployment to U.S. 5th Fleet. . The president has authorized U.S. Central Command to conduct military operations in support of humanitarian aid deliveries and targeted airstrikes in Iraq to protect U.S. personnel and interests, in response to activities conducted by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists. Better plug your ears because this will make you deaf if you were to actually be on that ship with planes landing. Great video by the way😀👍

How are the planes reversing direction to give slack to the arresting cable? Is it just the weight of the cable?
@dave4shmups
@dave4shmups 9 жыл бұрын
I don't know, but they must have some form of reverse thrust, as loud as those engines were on landing.
@robertbrockway6580

David Halligan Well they always use high thrust in case the arresting cable breaks to get air borne again. You can hear the engine shutting down before the cable slacks. It could be just the tension of the cable on the plane when the engine is throttled down, didn't know, why I asked.

David Halligan No, the F/A-18 does not have thrust reversers. What you hear is the engine going full thrust, so the plane can takeoff again in case the pilot missed the arresting cable.

Robert Brockway yes i do believe that the shift in tension is the factor responsible for the plane hornet sliding back a few feet. Theres a set amount of force resistance programmed into the cables for the different planes and I believe it is mean to actually start retracting just enough that the cable slacks once the aircraft is no longer moving forward.

Why these planes still carrying the bomb when they return to the carrier?
@russellmyers638
@russellmyers638 7 жыл бұрын
c8832155 because they're most likely performing CAS missions. Combat Air Support protecting ground forces. The jets are loaded with precision ordinance (the bombs you see are actually AGM-65, a laser guided air to ground missile) which can be targeted by the pilot in the jet. They will depart the carrier, fly to a holding pattern and sit there for hours sometimes just waiting in case they're needed. If they're not needed, they return to the ship with live ordinance and give the red shirts some work :-) In short, not all missions are as you might think, deliberate attacks with pre-determined targets prior to takeoff.

Awesome video and landings but HW Bush definitely does NOT deserve a carrier named after him.
