Heartbreaking 💔 I almost feel guilty when i listen to those pieces. It is like i am invading Chopin’s privacy because it feels so intimate. At the same time, i can’t help but being happy that Chopin’s friend ignored his will. I can’t believe that such beautiful melodies would have been lost forever... 😳

The decision not to burn the manuscripts was made by Chopin's sister, Ludvica, who was Chopin's heir and executor; Fontana lef it to her to decide. Dr. Alan Walker's magnificently researched biography points out that the G minor Op. 67 No. 2 is he actual last composition he did in 1849 quite near the end.

Such an illuminating analysis. The first one is the first Chopin piece I learned. So sad that a very happy and loved child suffered so much as an adult. But oh the music left for us! 💕 Your videos are really a gift, making all the music fresh for me. Thank you!

Thank you. You learnt me something beautiful now. It is this mazurka in G minor I have played. I love it, but didnt know the story about it. I have seen the sheet music of the other mazurkas and they are way above my ability to play. But now I have the explanation and a story behind it. So important to know something about what I learnt. And about a composer I learnt to love. I will play this mazurka with a special love from now on. Your way of speeking about this make the music more precious.

I love your videos , and i love your playing as well as your narrations and explanations . You opened a whole different view on Chopin inside me , and now when i play Chopin , especially long and versatile pieces like the ballade 1 or 3 , it takes a lot of spiritual and mental energy , because with every performance i imagine myself as chopin and his tragic life and suffering from tuberculosis and being away from Poland , drama with George Sand etc… all of that really drains energy from me , and i may not be a professional pianist just yet , i fear that a lot of them dont consider spiritual energy as important as physical stamina and technique . I am thankful for this realization Greg!

Thank you for your words! You made me so happy with this comment. It always means a lot to me when someone writes such words of gratefulness expressing how important those videos are to him/her. Thank you! I will keep posting more videos when I'll find the time for that. Currently I'm preparing for concerts in Japan and Norway which are approaching! Best wishes to you!

What a great gift you bring to us through your videos Greg. Chopin has been an ever growing and blossoming integral part of my life from the moment I first heard his music 66 years ago. You do so much to deepen this connection for me. I feel with certainty there is a rich reward to staying in touch with the tragic element in all of our lives, both for the compassion it can foster and the release it gives to staying open emotionally. By staying present emotionally for the worst that life brings, I am certain we remain more open and free to dance with abandon and enjoy with unlimited emotion the wondrous gifts life also bestows. I am led to this understanding by the master as his compositions often move so deftly back and forth between widely different moods, each enhancing the depth and strength of the other. Your profound insight, understanding, and interpretations of Chopin, which you reveal to us with such unlimited heartfelt expression, are rare and precious! 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻

Your video is really beautiful, i studied in past the Mazurka in A minor, but my interpretation always been "wrong". After i seen your video i think i can understand better the sense of this wonderful music. At moment i'm trying to study the one in F minor. And i feel myself more involved, because is a very difficult and sad moment of my real life. I can feel exactly what you said about this Mazurka. I'm just an old lover of music, not a professional musician. But listening your lesson, i could learn something more that will help me to play a little better. Thank you.

in relation to minutes 16:26/16:33 of the video, I would like to say that from a physical point of view, that is scientifically, the ascent time of a body is exactly equal to the descent time. However, subjective impressions and measurements of the soul certainly matter more in art than those made with instruments of measurement and it is true, for example that when we follow a route for the first time it seems longer than when we follow it for the second time. I found these three mazurkas very beautiful and I am worried that it is a subjective evaluation influenced by the fact that they are relatively easy to read, compared, for example, with those that have persistent elements of polyphony. interesting presentation and beautiful execution.

hi Greg, first of all thank you for all your beautiful work and passion. I wanted to ask you about a specific mazurka without opus number, it’s in B-flat major and supposedly composed in 1826. It’s referred to being Mazurka no 52, sometimes 56 (not the one dedicated to a certain « Wolowska »), or even « B.16 no 2 », in albums covering all of them. I don’t think it’s been covered on your channel and I wanted to ask you, as a Chopin reference, are we sure this mazurka is from Chopin, and that it hasn't been altered ? I’d love to learn it but i want to MAKE SURE it’s from HIM :) it surely does sound like it is !

Hi! Thank you for this question. Yes, it is 100% Chopin's. Actually I have just recorded it on my new album with all Chopin music for piano, which will be no.1 "Birth of a genius". It will soon be published on Spotify, but also as a CD. I made analyses of it only in Polish language. I will soon make subtitles to this and let you know.
