What an amazing illuminating presentation. Great great work and playing.. The pacing is so interesting and the pedal work IS from the other world. Understanding Chopin s psychology, emotional states and references to other works of Chopin and explaining the expression as Chopin s speech and experience makes this tutorial exceptional and exemplary. Thank you so so much for doing justice to Chopin and this gorgeous Mazurka.

Wonderful! I've been playing this mazurka for years, at an advanced amateur level. Fell in love with it via an old recording by Dinu Lipati. Played it earlier this year for a roomful of patients at a skilled nursing facility. Enthusiastic response. Thank you for giving me so many ideas. In addition to the analysis and imagination, the playing is terrific. Wish I had this level of talent, but wow I love the mazurkas.

Wow!!! There's so much more to this mazurka than one can think! You really have shown the part about this mazurka that nobody else has. I felt emotionally changed after listening through the whole thing. Thank you very much! I hope you can also do a lecture on the Chopin Ballade no. 1. Again, thank you very much for going super in depth into this piece and showing the true colors of it that nobody else shows!

Hi Greg, It is Peter from Hungary. Well well... Another excellent analysis of a magnifical piece. Your way of thinking and the way you analyse deeply the pieces, particularly this one, is just beyond compare. You do not just play the music (with excellent technique and emotion) but you also try your very very best to imagine yourself into the times Chopin lived in to reproduce the best possible melody filled with enormous amount of sadness, fellings, hesitations, etc... You can borrow the piece next to the sadness also a large amount of holiness (if it is the right word ) or dignity. A very few pianists can do that. A lot of them just practice and practice where they achieve excellent technique and also a great level of emotional playing but the 1% more you give in with that I have already written above just puts the crown on the head to this particular piece. Its not a shame if I say that I have cried a bit just due to seeing a person trying his absolutely best to teleport himself in the skin of Chopin. I now truely understand, why this piece is your favourite. It is now also mine. I can not find the words to express myself, you are grandiouse my friend!!! Chopin would be proud of you, thats for sure!!!!! Warm hug from Hungary!!!

@@gregniemczuk As a Chopin enthusiast, be sure I will. Even if i know how to play some pieces, i feel like i dont have a basis for my interpretation, mostly because I lack a lot of music theory (im not a professional). That's why I find very helpful the way you disect the context & the structure of the opuses. I respect your dedication for music and wish you the best from Romania, the fish neighbour. ✌

But maestro, his ‘Variations on “La ci darem la mano” ‘ is Opus 2! And I have listened to it elsewhere for solo piano on KZbin. Was it published posthumously? Opus 2 he must have been a 10-year-old! SL
@gregniemczuk
@gregniemczuk Жыл бұрын
No no, first of all, it was written for piano with the orchestra, but also there is a solo piano version. But that's the reason why I didn't analyze it, as I only did piano solo pieces. Secondly - he was older, about 18,19 but it was officially published as the second of his pieces.
