This is in my opinion the most interesting video in the series thus far, since I never really considered the fifth prelude, I just listened to it, enjoyed it while it lasted and that was it, no further tought. This really deepened my understanding, thanks for that!

Very nice, Greg, how you show the short conversation, or rather discussion, if not argument, between two people in this little piece of music. I believe Chopin indeed put many discussions in his music, perhaps the one of the most intriguing ones in the first part of his first piano concerto.

Your excellent analysis, Mo Niemczuk, verifies my initiative to take, read and try to guess the meaning of the score before i listen to your approach. In this respect, our identical thoughts are, of course, the output of your thorough, detailed and analytical mind all over the Chopin music. Regarding this prelude, its charm and uniqueness, is something beyond any question !!! Any music lover has to "isolate" in his own way each one of them separately and revert to it as much as it takes, in order to absorb the real value of purity in composing masterpieces. Thank you for talking about this prelude. It's for me perhaps the most enigmatic and complex-sounding of the 24. In my mind, I put it in some category similar to the "Toccata" Cmajor etude of op10.

As an etude, what would its purpose be? From a technical perspective are you having to shift back and forth between rotation for the jumps and realignment of the hands for the chords?

Hello!! First of all thank you, for your great work and passion that you transmit through it. Second I wanna tell you that I’m super confused about that minor at the end of part C. In my book and in others I downloaded to compare the final note is A sharp , no natural sign is present!! Still I heard Askhenazy version and it’s there!! The natural A!! What to do?! Thanks!

Well, that's a mystery. I'm using an urtext National Polish edition which I trust .. but yes...there are 2 different versions.

When I first heard this piece, I thought I was listening to one of Scriabins preludes. How wrong was I! Chopin was a true innovator!

Having a maximum 17cm small hand to me Jumping right and left ...the octave harmony is difficult...

I can't even imagine how it is possible to play with such a small hand. You need to use your supple wrist all the time. Try to make your wrist very flexible and supple.
