(1765) Il presto, col tema a saliscendi, imparentato con il tema del "Mattino" (sinf. 6), ricollega il finale al primo movimento mentre i lunghissimi e ossessivi pedali dei fiati lo associano al trio. Ma il fuoco che anima questa pagina è unico e inaspettato. L'incalzare drammatico dei violini, intenti a sventagliare crome mentre il basso ripete la fanfara del tema, e il loro precipitarsi in pazze corse ascendenti produce un clima di agitazione che ha riscontro solo nelle sinfonie dello Sturm und Drang. De extreme genialiteit van Haydn in de finale is zo mooi om naar te luisteren. De constante grapjes die hij met de luisteraar uithaalt door te wisselen van het dubbelfraseren naar tripelfrasering is ik kan niet anders zeggen hilarisch. Bedankt voor deze muziek Haydn!
