I have listened to all five of Mendelssohn's symphonies in turn, and concluded that they are splendid. His music is an interesting mixture of Classicism and Romanticism. Of course his violin concerto is deservedly popular, and I must now give his piano concertos a listen.

I've come to love this Symphony in this year of commemoration of the Reformation. Oddly I'm a Catholic! But the nobility and sheer "German-ness" of the music shines through for me.

I'm Catholic, too, and there is nothing odd about loving this superb symphony.

@Greens Beans Potatoes Tomatoes The name Reformations-Sinfonie refers to Luthers reformation, not Mendelssohns personal conversion.

I'm catholic too. This music simply reminds us to God. No question about, whatever was the Mendelsonn religious belonging
