靠近加冷河的芽笼一巷和三巷，早期是一片沼泽地、浮脚屋，既有华人村落，也有海人聚居的马来甘榜。几十年间，陋屋变成私人排屋、组屋，地方全然改观。
伫立河边水江庙见证了这一带60年来的变迁，在它周围曾经是造船厂，繁忙的河道带动着轻工业的发展。李光前的南益树胶厂和产业，超过半个世纪以来也如同芽笼三巷的地标。
不过，再过三年，这一带将出现巨大的改变。

In the past, Geylang Lorong 1 and 3 in the vicinity of Kallang River used to be a swamp, and was inhabited by the Chinese and Orang Laut. They prospered within kampong communities and lived in stilt houses.
As decades went by, the entire landscape transformed as kampong houses made way for private terrace houses and HDB flats.
The shipbuilding factories which used to line the river and supported the surrounding light industrial estate vanished in the 1970s. Conversely, Chwee Kang Beo, a Chinese temple which had lived through 60 years of history and changes, still stands proudly by the river.
The Lee Rubber and Properties owned by Lee Kong Chian had also been an iconic feature at Geylang Lorong 3 for over half a century.
A new wave of changes beckons after three years.
