Haha, they had a lot of tricks for that pseudo 3D effect back in the day. I want to say the one on SNES was Mode 7.

Seems like once the shock of the first few times passes, it becomes easier to handle. I decided to use Wild Goose because of the durability and I find anyone about to blow up, finish them, and use the health boost on the final lap to become ultra aggressive, sometimes leading to me dying but I got my first 2 wins with it.
