There are so many actual references to it, including the message on the black screen when finishing a grand prix that allude to it. The main producer was a huge fan of american comics and anime/cartoons, so it makes sense.

You have absolutely zero clue how to play the game set to full speed in that case, you can EASILY reach 2200km/h+ without snaking using turbo slides (momentum turbo slides as fans call it), it's been a mechanic showcased by promotional VHS footage since the game released, with the shoulder buttons you can strafe the vehicle (shoulder and stick in the opposite directions). It's easier to get those speeds with MTS than it is with snaking even.

This may be the simplest final lap in the game... but OH MY GOD; once it gets in expert class, that piano sets the pace amazing along those machines super sonic motors. I LOVE IT!!!
