At an equal level, there is no reason for someone to lose while using fat shark if the opponent uses another ship. It's way too good and if you don't think so you probably never used it. Fox/Falco/Marth can however be beaten.

@@rigel_starr there are plenty of vehicles used at the highest level. world records are held by a total of 5 vehicles: 4 records by quick star-g4, 8 records by gallant star-g4, 3 records by black bull, 1 record by omega gantlet-v2 (gallant with a heavier engine), and 10 records by fat shark. the biggest diversity is a result of the course. ignoring omega gantlet-v2's unique usage situation, all 3 of those other vehicles are significantly better than fat shark on MCTR, SOSS, LLC, BBDH, BBO, PRSLS, ASD, LTR, and GPS, for example. Moving past world records alone, there are significantly more options for custom vehicles that are useful for beginner to middle level players, though it was an unfortunate situation as a result of this tournament's banning of customs (due to logistics as a result of the games being run through nintendont instead of memory card and disk, not for balance) that the diversity could not have been shown. I'm sure AKC would've loved to show off some more vehicles. And I can assure you I've used the vehicle plenty, look at what all my uploads are xd

Darkflame's picks (assuming he also picked Casino Palace) are smart for tripping up high level GX players in general. GX competition has traditionally focused on grinding individual tracks in Time Attack until you get a good time. In these tracks in particular, many players are familiar with the big jumps, but generally don't expect to finish too many runs with them. Few players have the knack for doing these strats at very high consistency. AKC is one of those few, though!

Thanks to F-Zero's speed, any new racing game does not live to my expectations. F-Zero has set the bar high for me when it comes to racing games. Nintendo needs to give us a new installment pronto. :( I would love to play F-Zero on the go.

HSSA is "Hyper Speed Side Attack", which is basically side-attack dives, but you have to press the accel button and side-attack at around the same time in a near-frame perfect timing. The result is your machine flying up very fast. Nice to see GX getting recognition as a tournament game :)

I always thought large F-Zero tournaments, assuming that they were played in a new game with fantastic graphics and the capacity for up to 24 people to play on LAN, could replace NASCAR. Stock car racing is so boring, especially on TV. Imagine if you had 24 F-Zero racers on a track, and commentators were given the tools to get NASCAR-like shots. Not direct feeds from the players’ screens, but virtual cameras set up around the track. Watching that would be INCREDIBLE! Way more crashes and stunts than real racing, and unlike NASCAR, where if you wreck, you’re out for the whole thing, in F-Zero you could either respawn or simply wait literally a minute for the race to be over and move on to the next one. It would be a far better viewer sport, and you no longer have the threat of bodily injury. No one’s going to die because they crash their F-Zero...car? Ship? Either way, I think it would be awesome to see. Nintendo, please, give us another F-Zero!

3:46 - there actually is one non-custom vehicle that can spacefly, and believe it or not it's one of the worst machines in the game. The Super Piranha. So in a format without custom vehicles spaceflying is actually technically doable. But the Super Piranha is so bad otherwise that it's often not worth it, and will often be outpaced by snaking or max-speed strats.

Wow, I would definitely like to see more of this! Though, seeing everyone constantly locking in Fat Shark is pretty lame. I think it would be more interesting as a draft, where only one player can pick a given racer at a time, and each player must pick a different racer for each round. I don't know enough about the game to decide whether or not Fat Shark or Black Bull are bannable.

If Fat Shark was banned I think most people would opt for either Black Bull, Hyper Speeder, or Sonic Phantom. Either way some more diversity between racers would be preferred because everyone knows Fat Shark is busted in almost every category.

I think the only problem is the commentator (ChillinDude), I don't think this guy is even looking at the race XD I really like him in Melee, but it seems he needs to study a little bit more about the game to commentate it properly. On the side note, I find this way more interesting than the other racing games, it's so cool. Also, the music is crazy!

There's allot of gravity manipulation that players of Mario Kart 8 would know. Turn Mario Kart 8 on 200cc and try to do shortcuts not done on normal speed, you'll see the game cut you off with Lakitu because without the influence of a boost item to cancel out gravity, you just fall like a rock regardless of how fast you're going.

competitive isn't really quite the right way to describe it but there's a lively speedrunning community for GX, which AKC has been a part of approximately since the game's release. everyone else at the tournament was quite casual

personal preference for some, and experience with machines. Fat shark at high speeds becomes really twitchy and can lead to a quick retirement by off course. This also leads to it being really good at momentum sliding, part of the reason why it's so damn good. Hyper speeder has a good overall top speed and has good boosting while being stable at high speeds making it a safe option for those who aren't speedrunner tier.
