Japan like the US was an NTSC country. They broadcast in analog 60i. PAL countries like Europe 50i. Everything was in high frame rate. All the broadcasts were like that they were just interlaced. All you are seeing here is the footage deinterlaced from 60 interlaced fields stored at 29.970fps to 60 progressive frames. In PAL countries they were encoded via 25fps, 50 fields. This is why to this day Europe uses 25/50fps intervals and the US/NTSC countries use 29.970 (30) and 59.940 (60) frame intervals. Now you know.

@@callumcc8897 All NTSC countries had 60i. This wasn't exclusive to Japan. What was exclusive to Japan was them getting a lot of the new technology first, like MUSE Hi-Vision, an early analog HD broadcast and LaserDisc system, roughly equivalent to 1025i.
