You're wrong. If you have a strong pace on the first stint + a decent pit stop (specifically if you run on pole. With Toro Rosso you can on Hard difficulty as long as you set the car up).

For adding more fuel, try a no-stop strategy. Set your race start fuel to capacity, and just save a little bit in the race. Managed to win a few races I shouldn't have in my time on the game all those years ago. And vaulted up the order to positions I shouldn't have been in for the car too in other times. Give it a go. Won't regret it.

+Tiametmarduk afraid it's purely short shifting, nothing more exciting than that 😝 anyway, you always seem to get a little bit of fuel in reserve (a lap or so) on top of your scheduled pit in lap. Plus I noticed the game always seemed to overestimate how much fuel I would use, and thus could do the 20% races without stopping. Worth a gamble on AI OP tracks, especially in your STR

Ben, you need to fix your qualifying strategy. At the start of Q3, go out on scrubbed tyres and just aimlessly do laps until your fuel runs down, then strap on some brand new tyres and you'll be on fumes AND new tyres, and that's when you want to hit your best lap. In 2006, drivers are given "fuel credits" so that every lap of fuel they burn in Q3, they are given that fuel back after the session, so you just need to manage Q3 correctly, instead of setting your best time at the start of the session when you have plenty more time to find in fuel weight loss.

When I do those races, I set the strategy as two stops but put the second stop for 1 or 2 laps before the end and don't come in. Makes you quicker at the end - when you do the one stoppers you always have 2 or 3 laps of fuel left.Love the vids Ben, keep em coming!

Ben, you're supposed to stay out longer and put in faster laps at the end of your stint (once you've burned some if not most of the fuel) in order to stay ahead of your competitor. Google races pre-2009 and follow the strategy. It's quite different from today.

The best fuel strategy for this race distance: switch to a 2 stop race. Set your fuel to last 4 laps, but ignore your first pit and run an extra lap. Then, you'll be fueled up for your second stint. Set your second stint to end one lap prior to the end of the race, but you won't pit and instead rum to the end of the race. You should have 0 laps of fuel left at the end of your first and second stint

Ben F1 back then didn't have undercuts, the way you did strategy was try & go longer than the car ahead so when he pulled into the pits & left with a heavy fuel load you would push with a clear track & low fuel & jump them when you came in

I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this, but the idea behind Q3 being 20 minutes long is to burn as much fuel as possible in the first 10 - 15 minutes and then put on new tyres for a last dash for pole position. after qualifying you get back around 1.3 Kg of fuel per lap ran in Q3, so you start the race with your chosen fuel load.

I think back in the 2006 season you decided your race fuel before you left the pits for Q3 and then any fuel burned in the session was 'paid back' to you before the race start. So cars would just run round and round to burn as much fuel as possible before setting their flying laps at the end of the session (when they would be lighter and faster). It might be worth a try for Monza....and don't worry too much about degradation, the tyres were really durable back then!

For setups you should really try the 'race car evolution' mode at the start of the weekend, you still get the Saturday practice to make any changes to the car setup and strategy. Also, you tend to have enough fuel to go 1 lap longer than the planned pitstop but you risk having to queue behind your team mate for any unplanned pitstops.

Yeah back then the undercut was rarely used, it was the overcut that advanced positions. Schumacher in Imola 2005 comes to mind. Start heavier next time and qualify well and you'll be set!

Damn Schumacher really had a bad day: Engine blew after the 2nd Corner, got hit in the back by Webber and Button because of that AND probably won't win the Championship now... Poor Schumi :( And now the serious part: I just want to remind you Ben, that you have to be very careful in the next Episodes when you recive any kind of Contract Offer from Top Teams, and "Top-Midfield" Runners. If they happen to send you an offer, read the contract carefully, because the may just want you as a Test Driver for the next Season, which would mean no Races for you and no Second Season to watch for us :S

we need this kind of penalty system in f1 2016 because if you corner cut now and before and you race in a league, sometimes the penalty will be removed from the stewards but if we have this, you have to race very carefully and if you cut the cars slows down for 5-6 sec and that way it cant be removed (saying this a league racer)

He said he wanted to trial strategies for next season, but I feel like better AI will exploit the significant weight difference between them and Ben between the pits (Laps 4-7) and perfect an overcut. You saw hear that the AI did overcut but not by much, but I doubt that with happen on hard AI.. I don't think you can change difficulties anyway but whatever!

I don't believe that undercutting is good. It slows you down cause you have more fuel and get stuck in traffic. Back in those days, there wasn't a huge difference in tyres as it is today. I clearly remember that the idea back then was to stay out the longest

Denotes which tyre manufacture that car/team runs with. Back in this era of F1 known as the "tyre war era", Michelin and Bridgestone supplied different teams (think of it as teams nowadays being supplied by different engine suppliers like Renualt, Honda etc.)
