F1 2016 - All 10 Seasons of Career Mode

Just to let everyone know, I did undertake another career mode cycle on this game at a later date. The start and end of the video along with the pinned comment show just how interesting the development of all the teams can be (in other words, Mercedes don't win all the time unlike in this video). I did the exact same thing you did (chose Renault as my team) and took note of everything (including race by race winners and a screenshot of the comparison chart every 5 races). Here is how things panned out for me: Season 1 - Mercedes start off best and win the first 4 races, but get caught by both Red Bull and Ferrari. Ferrari keep upgrading and pull away in the 2nd half of the season, winning all but 1 race after Germany. Champion - Vettel Season 2 - Ferrari dominate the first half of the season, continuing on from their s1 form. Force India catch them up by mid season and overtake them by the final third of the season, while Mercedes and Red Bull go backwards. Pérez wins the final 3 races but finishes 3rd, 6 points behind Räikkönen and 2 behind Vettel. Renault move to 3rd in the chart, and I got podiums in dry race simulations. Champion - Räikkönen Season 3 - I'm able to max out the Renault early on and briefly make it the quickest. McLaren make a lot of upgrades and are fastest by the season end. Ferrari drop back to 4th, Mercedes are down in 6th, and Red Bull only 3 places above the bottom. 8 different race winners in total, including 5 wins for me and 1 for my teammate Magnussen, all in dry races. I become champion, with both Force India and McLaren drivers within 40 points of me. Red Bull finish 8th in constructors, with only 42 points. The most topsy-turvy season. Season 4 - McLaren and Manor max out early, McLaren stay top for most of the season, Manor gets as high as 5th. Force India catch McLaren in the final third of the season but the points gap is too big. I get 2 wins and 4 more podiums with Renault but results fade in the second half of the season. Mercedes start moving back up, finishing the season in 4th on the chart, Williams on the other hand are in last and scored no points. Champion - Alonso Season 5 - Force India also max out and get back past McLaren, but not by much. A close battle takes place, with Pérez, Hülkenberg and Button separated by just 9 points at the end of the season. Mercedes continue their upward trend, get back to the top of the performance chart in the final quarter of the season, and win the last 5 races. Red Bull and Williams also move out of the doldrums, and Renault drops all the way to 3rd last, where they started from. Champion - Pérez Season 6 - This is when the Mercedes domination returns. Mercedes reach the absolute end of the performance chart by halfway and leave the rest behind. They won all 21 races, finishing 1-2 in 19 of them, scoring 897 out of an available 903 points. Ferrari moved up from 6th to 2nd in the chart after maxing out their car with a couple of races left, Red Bull also got past Force India. Peréz still got 3rd in the championship based on early season form. Champion - Rosberg (455 points with 11 wins and 10 seconds) Season 7 - Mercedes get a bit more competition for race wins, with Ferrari also maxed out and Red Bull doing the same within the first few races (and getting back in front of Ferrari). Vettel wins in Monaco, breaking Mercedes's win streak at 31. Mercedes dominate most of the season anyways, with Red Bull and Ferrari picking up an odd win or two. All the teams max out here, Williams and Haas being the final two to do so. Champion - Hamilton Season 8 - First with no upgrades as all teams are maxed out. Went exactly like real life with Mercedes winning all other than 2 or 3 races, and only Red Bull or Ferrari joining them on the podium. Final order was Rosberg, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Vettel, Verstappen, Räikkönen, exactly like real life. Season 9 and 10 - Similar to season 8. Hamilton did win over Rosberg in s9, only for Rosberg to reverse the tables in s10. s10 also saw Verstappen get ahead of Vettel which meant a Noah's ark formation for the top 14.

So what can be inferred from that is that anything can happen in the first 5 seasons, but after that, it will just become pretty boring and stale. Mercedes domination usually disappears and then returns (am sure that they are designed to not upgrade at the start so the field closes up). That said, not many people would play the full 10 seasons anyways, so 5 good seasons will do just fine. 😊

Well your career seems much more exciting than the one I had. Apart from McLaren in season 3, no one really challenged Mercedes at the top in my one. I agree that as long as the first 5 seasons have a random development cycle, that's all that matters. I've never done more than 3 seasons on any F1 game anyway.

PSLutonrules I think what happened in your career here is an exception. If you see the career modes of tiametmarduk, aarava, Tom97HD, Gullis Gaming etc you can see that Mercedes aren't on top anymore. The one where Mercedes and Red Bull stay at the top has been AlexZafro's. More often than not the pecking order changes a lot so the first 5 seasons will usually be exciting, and that's more than enough for most people. I think for F1 2017 Codies should use the same format for the first 5 seasons and then do a complete and random team reset for season 6 - like when rule changes bring about a new era irl and the pecking order changes.

Even in my actual career mode series on KZbin Mercedes haven't been as dominant as they were here, so maybe I just got really unlucky with these 10 seasons. I would like to record it again just to see if I get anything more interesting. But considering I started recording this video on Halloween (obviously with breaks in between, but still) I don't want to go through all the hours of repetitive motions just in the hope something more noteworthy happens.

Still confused why they made the career 10 seasons long, when all the teams max out their R&D around Season 5/6. If they had of kept the Career mode to 5 seasons long then it would have made sense. You basically are forced to restart Career when all the teams max out their R&D.

I agree and watching this video makes me not want to play the game any longer as I know when I get into my 6th season onwards its just going to be boring and honestly kind of pointless.

Great video - so detailed! Now we got to finally see how 10 seasons in career mode can make the difference with every team on the grid. I think that after seasons 3-4 you could have switched teams due to the Sauber having zero pace after being champions for that one season and those Mercedes...UNTOUCHABLE! 😊👍

yeah, with purple R&D 30 points instead of 50 and green 10 R&D points. and the upgrades 200 R&D points more expensive

Because I am I sesason 8 now all the teams have been maxed out but I did take notes throughout the season and I thought I would share this with u guys Season 1 I started in Renault and put some good upgrades in the early half to get 5th in the performance chart by mid season and by then Mercedes were first in the charts with Ferrari not far behind with Williams in 3rd and red bull in 4th just ahead of us. At the end of the season nico won the championship just ahead of Vettel and Lewis and Mercedes were still first in the performance with red bull and ferrai behind them. Toro rosso moved to fourth and Williams moved down to 5th and Renault moved down to 6th because development stop in Singapore but 1st-6th were very close in the charts. Season 2 by round 2 I moved Renault to first due to lots of upgrades and kept the team in first intill Canada were Mercedes took over. By mid season due to the upgrades being expensive I couldn't keep up. With Mercedes and red bull but we were still close in performance I won the championship and Mercedes still won the constructors championship and didn't lose the lead at throughout the year. Ferrai dropped to fifth and manor moved to sixth. Sesason 3: I moved to McLaren and they were 9th in performance. As we went to Europe Renault put there last few upgrades on the car and moved to first in the performance standings but Mercedes still lead the constructors. By mid season Mercedes retook the lead in the performance chart while manor moved to fifth ahead of Ferrari in the performance chart. Nico won the championship and Mercedes still won the constructors. I got McLaren into fifth ahead of Ferrari and manor dropped to sixth and force India and Williams were in 8th and 9th. Season 4 I moved to ferrai to get them back up the ladder. Mercedes dominated the first half looking untouchable before red bull chased them down in the second half. Toro rosso won the last TwO races but they were kinda glitched. I got Ferrari into fourth just behind toro rosso. Nico won again and Mercedes as well. Season 5 got Ferrari some big upgrades to chase down red bull and Mercedes but the first few rounds saw Mercedes and red bull finishing in the top four before me and Vettel chased them down into the half way mark were we got even closer to them with just some fuel upgrades left and I won the championship but Mercedes still won the constructors. Season 6 most of the teams were upgraded to max and in Russia after 131(I think )races Mercedes lost the lead in the constructors to Ferrari and it was a three team battle between Ferrari Mercedes and red bull ( who were all maxed out ) but after half way mark red bull slipped out of the championship due to just bad luck and it left me Vettel nico and Lewis to battle it out and I came out on top to win the championship and Ferrari finally won a constructors. Season 7 and 8 all the teams were maxed out and it was just a fight between Mercedes Ferrari and red bull I won in season 7 after a all year battle between me and Lewis and I won the championship and Ferrari won the constructors championship. Season 8 saw Mercedes with a bad first half with only 3 wins but came back strong in the second half to close the gap with Ferrari and me and Vettel. Vettel won the championship by 5 points and red bull got no wins but Ricardo beat Lewis in the standings by 10 points. Now in the first 5 race of season 9 red bull has only 12 points and button is leading some how with me and Vettel just a few points behind

Instead of just buying upgrades with the research points you should just select an area of upgrades and have it increase after a certain amount of races dependent on the part and the upgrade size depends on how much you do in practice and wether or not you pass race objectives

In my career Mercedes have just pulled away from the start tbh.... IMO this career mode probably reaches it peak at S3. Then it begins to kinda reshape to real life and you'll need mods to make it interesting again.

Upgrades needed to have some randomization in how much they actually improve the car to make sure this type of thing didn't happen. Or every 4/5 seasons a "regulation change" would completely reset the upgrades and shuffle the pack somewhat. Eh, just ideas.

I personally have never done 10 seasons of career mode naturally in any F1 game. But having said that, if they are going to make it 10 seasons long, they would certainly have to do something like you suggested.

Thanks man! I don't really know how long it took to be honest. I started recording on Halloween and finished some time in the second half of November, but obviously with days in between where I never went on it. In terms of hours, I dread to think how long it took, but a stupid amount of time considering I didn't do any of the races!

development should reset after two seasons. All cars should stay at the same level but it should allow for more development

Honestly I still think it's a brilliant idea. Yes it can so easily be abused to make a slow team champions in no time and yes after the sixth season it's pointless - but I still like it. It makes the career mode more unpredictable and adds a dynamic element to the career mode which makes it much more interesting that any other F1 game's career mode.

Well F1 games are programmed with no bias, so AI performance is dictated on championship position. Since Rosberg won the championship, it's fair to make him the slightly quicker driver in the game. The second you add personal view to an AI's performance, you'll end up with a potentially unrealistic game.
