Whether you’re new to the series or a veteran coming back for more, I can help, let’s get started. 🔴 Race Styles F1 2021 features multiple Race Styles, letting you match the in-game handling model to the way you like to drive. You have three options to choose from, Casual, Standard and Expert. If you’re new to racing games, or still getting used to F1 2021, I would recommend trying out the Casual Race Style. This is a great place to start as the game will set everything up so that the cars are easy to drive, while also lending a helping hand should you lose control. For example, the grass will be just as grippy as the road itself, so you won’t spin the car as much. Also, if you go too far off-track the game will quickly get you back on, letting you get back to racing right away. The Standard Race Style is, as the name implies, the typical way to play F1 2021, allowing you to tailor the game to your preferences. Here, you now have greater control over the game’s assists, simulation settings, race rules and more. If you’ve just moved on from Casual I would recommend driving with all of the Assists turned on to begin with. After a while, turn each one off one at a time and see how they change the way the car feels. As you get better at the game you’ll might find that you enjoy driving with some of these assists turned off, but there’s no shame or pressure in keeping any of them turned on, just have fun out there. The third option is the Expert Race Style, opening up all of the game’s options and giving you full control of how you want to play F1 2021. As this is a Beginner’s Guide we won’t go into detail right now, but if you’re already familiar with F1 games I’d recommend exploring the menus and seeing what you can do. With that said it’s time to hit the track, and start learning how to drive. 🔴 Learning Tracks The key to any racing game are the circuits you drive on, and F1 2021 features all the good ones. You’ll experience high-speed battles at Silverstone, technical challenges at Zandvoort, and narrow street circuits like Monaco and Singapore. Learning your way around these may seem like a challenge, but it’s actually quite easy to do. The Racing Line Assist is the most common way people learn the layouts, as it draws a big green line on the road. This line tells you where to brake, turn and place your car before each corner. While you’re figuring out a track’s layout I would recommend turning it on, but try to focus on the environment around you while you drive too. You’ll notice helpful reference points like landmarks, signs, kerbs and more, all of which give clues on how to go even faster. A new addition to F1 2021 is the Colourblind Racing Line, check it out in the menu if you’re having trouble seeing the default version. When you play through the various Career Modes in F1 2021, look out for the Track Acclimatisation programme. You’ll come across this during the Free Practice sessions. It’s not there all the time but when it is, it’s worth doing. Now, when you head out on track you’ll see a bunch of gates on the road, and you earn points depending on how quickly you went through them. This is a great way to learn a track layout, and I’ve used it a lot in previous games, especially when visiting new places for the first time, like Circuit Zandvoort. For more detailed tips and tricks on every circuit in F1 2021, I have made guides for F1 2020 that will work for this game too. You can subscribe to check them out but for now let’s continue. 🔴 Respect the Kerbs One of the challenges when driving a Formula 1 car comes when you push your limits and try to gain as much time as possible. By braking later, turning in more smoothly and using the full width of the road, you’ll improve a lot. That being said, one thing to be extremely careful with are the kerbs that line the edges of the track. In F1 2021 these can be rather punishing, even moreso than in previous games. Some kerbs are fairly flat and you can essentially treat them as an extension of the road surface. Others however, are raised and will upset the balance of the car if you try to drive over them. In my time with F1 2021 so far, I have found that raised kerbs on the inside of corners are the ones you need to be extremely careful with, especially at low speeds. Once you’ve learned the track layouts and begin to push for more performance, you’ll naturally spin out and make mistakes. When this happens, look at the replay and see if it was the kerb that spun the car. If it was, avoid that kerb in future races. Speaking of racing, that’s what we’re here for right? Let’s set up a race and fine-tune the experience further. Before that though hit the Like Button if you’re finding this video useful, and let me know what you’d like to learn next. 🔴 AI Settings The best experiences in any racing game come when you’re battling wheel-to-wheel with your rivals. Balancing the AI difficulty to your skill level helps enormously here, so let’s find out how to do that. Set up a new Grand Prix and choose to race as Valtteri Bottas. We’ll be using Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for this test as it’s contains every type of corner, making it a well-balanced place to refine the AI. Make sure the weather is set to Clear, and that you are doing a Short Qualifying session. Next, choose your AI difficulty. If you’re new to F1 games then go with 50, but if you’ve played older titles like F1 2020, choose whatever AI setting you used in that game. Once you’re in the garage head out on a flying lap right away. Give it your best effort and run 2 hot laps before returning. After this, swap out the tyres for a fresh set and do 2 more. You should have enough time to do a third run after this, but don’t worry if you can’t get another lap in. When Qualifying ends, look at the standings and compare your time to Lewis Hamilton. For every second you’re faster or slower than him, create a new Grand Prix and adjust the difficulty by 10. Your goal with this session is to just barely beat Lewis Hamilton, and we chose the Mercedes as it’s a well-balanced and quick car to drive, with Hamilton as a fast opponent. If you’re planning race in F2, pick any car and aim to just barely get Pole Position instead. F2 cars drive differently to F1, so you might need separate AI settings for them. After a few attempts you’ll have the AI tuned perfectly to your skill level, leading to exciting racing. As you get better at the game, head back to this test if you feel you’re too fast or too slow, as this is a setting that evolves alongside you. 🔴 Endscreen When it comes to settings, the most important ones to get right are your wheel, controller and camera. Very helpful video. I’m a new f1 fan and I had f1 2020 struggled to play I’m glad to hear that f1 2021 has race style so new players like me can learn how to play it. It’s a very interesting sport and the game is really good as well I’m hoping I’ll actually be addicted to this game because the last f1 game I got i struggled to play it but now after watching more f1 I’m learning more about how the cars work. Hello. I have a question for you. I am a user who has just started playing f1 2020. In the meantime, I used abs and tc and didn't use brakes and steering assist, but when I entered f1 2021 my team season 4, all upgrades and teammates were also Lewis Hamilton, so I'm trying to turn off assists, but it's very difficult. It is very difficult to refer to the video on KZbin. I'm practicing in Bahrain now and I'm using g29 wheels and pedals, and the pedals were only on my right foot. Hi. Found your videos very useful for F1 2020, big help. For the ‘AI strength’ test, do you just use the default setup? Or find a personal setup, as that might give you a better laptime, and therefore maybe a more accurate estimate for AI setting?

Yup, default. I try and keep everything as neutral as possible. You may have to change the difficulty up and down as you go through career and drive better/worse cars.

Hey I’m struggling with the ai difficulty test, I just about beat him on 94 but in races feel as if I can’t catch the guy infront or make a gap to the guy behind. Should I still lower the difficulty even tho I just about beat him on that

Some tracks the AI will be faster on than others. Try a few tracks and if you're constantly slower then drop it down.

maybe u can help me… i played with gamepad f12020 and on 94AI. now with the new game. i cant play it anymore. the steering for gamepads is so horrible.I fell in love with the last game played 6 seasons myteam on 100% raceweekends…. now i dont see me finishing one season. i appreciate so much that i could drive monaco last year without crashing all the time but now… oversteering and sliding is so horrible… its not fun anymore and i am always insecure if i will loose the car. i tried som settings like the linerarty or the 270 degrees but doesnt help.. went back in f12020 and the fun was back

Hmm. It's a tricky one. Fundamentally not much has changed between the games. It really depends on what you're struggling with, be it oversteer or understeer. The My team car may also be worse at the start which isn't as fun.

Why do the first cars pass me at the start and not my colleague's? We both drive with the same settings and driving aids (assisted start) we have already driven for the same team, but he always drives away at the start and 2-3 cars behind me that pass without any problems that was not so in F1 2020 I am almost always drove them in at the start. Anyone have an idea?

Check the Session settings for Race Length. You can swap between Very Short (3 laps), Short (5), 25%, 50% and 100%.

This usually happens when you leave the game for too long or switch to another game or app, it's just a restart for now, hope that helps you

You can't change it in races (except for during Safety Car), only in practice.

Great tips, all of them - although I would advise against using the racing line at all, as it's just too difficult to distract yourself from focussing on it entirely. The result is the feel of a "new" course when you turn it off that I find jarring... just easier to leave it off from the beginning and get used to the track. Game is a masterpiece this year.

Just about to buy this game (bought a Series X somehow!) - One interesting thing is the racing line seems to be better for telling you the latest possible time to brake (versus the line itself).. If you switch it off do you get that indicator anywhere else or do you have to learn that too? For a newbie to F1 games like me I'd imagine I'd simply end up being too aggressive into every corner without it, ha!

@@JoshuaSugarman good question - try paying attention to the distance signs heading into each turn... you can use them as a guide, i usually start every new course braking at the 150m sign and let it coast into the turn until I figure out the course. Then, you just keep choosing a new landmark to push the braking time as late as possible.

@@JoshuaSugarman Just have fun - this is the first year I've dug this deep into the franchise and it only took me about a week or two to really get going... getting the difficulty just right for you, personally, is crucial as well - you'll have some absolutely phenomenal battles when it's close to your level. They really nailed this year's iteration!

2:56 I feel like these track guides don't translate 100% in the 2021 game since the cars have A LOT more understeer. Or am I wrong?

I don't think you're wrong in that the cars handle differently, but I have found so far that they do tend to be more planted. That being said, I have also found you can run way more Differential than last year, which helps a lot with the rotation. Also, Brake Bias is more sensitive too, so if you really wanted to rotate the car set it lower.

Have a tweak of the controller settings, I have a guide on it. There shouldn't be input lag though, unless it's further downstream (like your TV being slow).

DRS is the rear wing, which opens up to let you go faster on the straights. ERS is your battery.

Can you do a Monaco tutorial? I use the racing line because I’m still a beginner. Whenever I finish a hot lap I do a 1:13 and that’s not very good. I can’t get a 1:11 or 1:10

@@PJTierney I checked it out and got a 1:12.8 so PROGRESS. I find practice makes perfect. I was doing my team and now all I do is at least 50 time trial laps a day. The 1:12 isn’t consistent tho😂😭😭

In general, fewer assists means more control, and if you're good enough makes you faster.

@@PJTierney Yeah it does but it's fun learning. It's actually a great game, i'm pleasantly surprised. I have been racing against only 71 AI as that seems to be where i can perform as well as the car should...but i am already way above that level for Bahrain, i do ok at Imola but not much speed, at Portugal i am consistent but again not quick. Bahrain is the only track so far where i can significantly increase difficulty and still have chance to win

Both are good. I don't know if PS5 Haptic Triggers are supported on PC (I don't have the controller), but if they are then that's a good choice.

Have a look at it in the calibration menu. Also, check the Codemasters forums incase there are any issues with specific wheels.

CAN ANYONE HELP?! I’m playing as Max Verstappen in a championship and I am on the last race of the season and need to win to get the F1 World Champion achievement. I really don’t want to have to drive the WHOLE season again so am quite keen to win it this time. I’ve just paused it but have no flashbacks turned on on my game settings. I do however have simulation settings active so the game simulates the real sport. With that in mind I’m in second behind Hamilton and have been told there is a button you can press for race director assistance to promote me to first, how do I do this, is it in the MFD?

Man i swear you're the best for these stuff I'll use these tips for the difficulty cause i played Breaking point and i had no idea how i should take this. Normal in breaking point i'm 1min ahead of the 2nd and Challenging (which is a step above) i can't catch to the top 10 lol

@@Sikt You can change the difficulty of breaking point it's directly in the option when you're in a race. You should see straight away "Breaking point difficulty". But yeah normal is too easy and challenging is too hard.

Your not in a top team so getting in the top is not really what is supposed to happen in breaking point. Only a few times you will get in the points.
