Damon Hill discussed the Qatar GP and Max Verstappen claiming his third world title, stating his belief that teams will need to 'achieve perfection' in order to surpass Verstappen and Red Bull in the future.
Lewis Hamilton retired after a first-lap crash with Mercedes team-mate George Russell before newly crowned world champion Max Verstappen eased to victory in the Qatar Grand Prix.
Having confirmed his third successive drivers' title in Saturday's Sprint at the Losail International Circuit, Verstappen calmly dealt with unprecedented tyre regulations - brought in for the race amid safety concerns - to ease to victory from pole position ahead of McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
Verstappen's task was made more simple when Russell and Hamilton, starting second and third on the grid, respectively, collided at the first corner, leaving the seven-time world champion stricken in the gravel and his team-mate at the back of the field.

The thing with Max is that he's always on, always at 105% focus and power, for all those laps in a row, start to finish. There's no chill. Even when he's coasting (for fuel or tires), he's making the best effort to do that the best he can. The level of focus is insane. On top of that, he's precise, skilled, aggressive, and fast. He's there to race and to win, he's made that very clear to every other driver around him. If you're thinking of overtaking Max, you risk everything. Compared to someone like Albon (also super skilled, but who is way too nice IMO) it's like night and day.

I think that is indeed a difference between Lewis and Max. You always saw Lewis relax a bit after taking the WDC. He would wind it down a bit. That would be unthinkable for Max with his "one race at a time" mentality. This is in no way meant as a dig at Lewis. I think it is very normal and human to relax after achieving something great, but Max is just wired differently and I find that really amazing to see.

The “Lewis is such a clean racer” is so tiresome. The guy was only clean in the period that he had a superior car, just like Max is driving very cleanly now. Before he got to Mercedes he had plenty of incidents. And since not having a superior car anymore in 2021 he’s had plenty of contacts with other cars that were mostly his fault. He is a driver just like any other, he wants to beat the guys around him and will do whatever he can to make it happen. Then he hits people and he says sorry, which the British people absolutely love, the act first than apologies attitude. Oh what a classy guy he is. Then instead of changing his racing he goes and does the same again a number of races later. And he says sorry again. And most of the British press praise him again for being such a classy guy. Oh this is so uncharacteristic of him. Etc. Etc. The real underlying process is him trying to do everything to maintain his psychological and team dynamics superiority over the guy he calls “my teammate”. Shoving him of the track if necessary as proven in recent races. But also with all of his communication to the media. In the meantime George is acting tough in his communicationbut actually ceding to Lewis every time in these racing incidents. It is a very fascinating matchup and I am looking forward to how it will develop in coming years. Lewis failed to break Max with his mind games in 2021, curious which kind of fight George will show.

His mind games worked with Vettel in 2017,2018. Most of the times Ferrari being a amateur incompetent team didn't help him. But with Max it was completely ineffective. It was inspiring how Max handled pressure in 2021. He delivered every time under pressure unlike Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton looked silly and pathetic with his ugly mind games. The guy is a brilliant driver but his personality is shite. It was a life lesson watching Max handling everything in 2021 championship.

Damon started on the right track saying that Max is a a new breed of racers but forgot the one thing that this generation has over all the generations before them, the simracing scene. Guys like Lando and Max have so many extra hours behind the wheel and are so used to drive lap after lap in full concentration. It aren't just the hours but also the fact that drive so many different series online that making them highly adaptable to any kind of driving characteristics the car trows at them.

Well to be fair, the first generations of GP and F1 drivers used to jump from one category to another all the time. The likes of Fangio for instance were used to driving a F1 car one day and then an F2 car from another manufacturer the next. Then in the "off" season he would jump into his Cheverolet coupe to do a grueling 2000 mile race across the Andes in South America (through darkness, fog or dust) or the Mille Miglia in Italy on open roads. And all these things were done with skinny tyres, paper brakes (by comparison), no seatbelts, helmets, monocoques or rubber fueltanks, so a single lapse of concentration could very likely kill you. I absolutely love F1 and the modern day racers as well, but those first generation guys still hold all the GOAT titles and nobody will be able to take them away from them.

I believe the McLaren team's decision to issue orders was a sensible one. When you look at it from the team's perspective, swapping the drivers' positions wouldn't have altered the points they earned, and realistically, Norris was never going to catch and overtake Verstappen. So, there was little to gain for the team but a lot to lose in making that change...

Former racing drivers are the best pundits. Be it DC, Damon or Martin Brundle. As a German who always watches English commentary, I really appreciate their views because all of the mentioned drivers are really neutral. Unlike the rest of the Sky F1 team, especially Ted who is insuffrable. And as a Max fan, I have to admit that Lewis making such a blatant mistake is really uncharacteristic. You don't become a 7-time WDC by only having the fastest car, you also have to be consistent and not make many mistakes. So yeah, while it was Lewis' fault (as well as him driving into Checo in Japan), it shows the amount of pressure he is under. It's not an excuse, it's only an explanation. Max has matured hugely over the past years and is in the enviable situation of being able to pick his fights - just like Lewis was during the Merc dominated years.

My GOD will nobody from the Sky Sports F1 team EVER admit that Lewis Hamilton is in the wrong and is to blame??? Every single time they make an excuse for him! In 2021 when Max Verstappen was on the outside and in front of Lewis, plus fighting for the championship and Lewis hit Max and put him of into the wall at 185mph and the Sky sports F1 presenters/team of 'experts' blamed Max lol. This time Lewis was on the outside and not even fighting for the championship and they said that George Russell had NOWHERE TO GO, but yet they find an excuse for Lewis by saying its the teams fault because they should of told George to let Lewis past😂😂😂. How on earth could he let Lewis past? He literally had NOWHERE TO GO LOL, and it was also Lewis' choice to put the soft tyres on, so why should George Russell let him past? George opted for the medium tyre, so why didn't Lewis? I am British and I like Lewis Hamilton, and what he's achieved in the sport is exceptional!!! However, when he was racing with McLaren and the first few years at Mercedes GP, he was called out for his mistakes, and rightly so, but for whatever reason, the past 6 years has been absolutely pathetic in terms of Lewis being blamed for absolutely zero. It's got that bad that the Sky Sports F1 channel is being called the Lewis Hamilton show, and the one person who said it straight was Paul DiResta and they got rid of him, for telling the truth lol,it's crazy. Even Nico Rosberg has toned his views down on Lewis, which is strange. It's as if their scared stiff of being called racist if they say Lewis is to blame, and I have cancelled my Sky Sports subscription because of it, and I watch the channel 4 highlights instead because David Coulthard admirers Lewis Hamilton and praises Lewis when Lewis does something to be praised for but calls Lewis out if he's to blame, which is exactly the way it should be, but even the channel 4 team skirt around the issue sometimes too, when they wouldn't do it for any other driver. When Martin Brundle and DC were at the BBC,which is notoriously biased, they still called out Lewis for his mistakes like they did for every single other driver, but now even Martin Brundle doesn't call Lewis Hamilton out as much, he still does more than the rest but not nearly as much as he used to. Maybe that's why Martin Brundle is hardly ever there as much now, they've probably did the same as they did to Paul DiResta and told him to stop calling out Lewis or your contact will be altered, because Brundle was the main commentator for Sky sports F1 but now they have Karun Chandhok who is Indian alongside David Croft. Now Karun Chandhok is an encyclopedia when it comes to F1 knowledge and i love his insight into the sport and he is a former F1 driver too, but why hasn't he replaced David Croft instead?and out of all the British female drivers out there, Sky opted for Naomi Schiff who is a Rwandan who raced in W series and had NO WINS and NO PODIUMS and finished 16th in the championship. In fact in all the championships she's raced in, her record is 17th,11th, 14th, 7th, 11th, 36th and 16th. She did come 2nd in the 24hrs of Nurburgring cup X but had another 3 drivers alongside her and her teammates had finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th many many times and also had bad results too,but credit where credit is due, and she won the Clio cup China and won 7 races but the series had celebrities driving in it,like Hong-Kong TV and movie star Alex Fong and Lin Li Feng was another guest appearance in the Shanghai race and actually got pole position and won the race, not bad having a 100% win record, even if it is 1 race and 1 win 😂😂😂. The point i am making is that we are hiring people with a mediocre record at best but is actually terrible, and they are being hired before any of the far more talented and experienced people we have in our own country. Before you start throwing the racist card at me, Naomi Schiff isn't even British, and yet she's on a British TV show as an 'expert' but we have far better drivers with more expertise in our own country. Why should women or men be passed over for a British TV show for a foreigner which in itself isn't a problem, but when the foreigner hasn't got a fraction of the skill or expertise that the British person has that they have taken the job away from, it's a huge problem and it also dilutes the TV show too, because the likes of Naomi Schiff is NOWHERE NEAR as good as Jamie Chadwick who was the W series(womens series)champion and had won it 3 times in 4 years, and who is of mixed race with an Indian mother, yet they've only have her on a couple of times, and she said she hopes/hoped to be on an awful lot more on Sky Sports F1 but she's went and got a drive in Indy NXT for former F1 World Champion Mario Andretti Autosport, rather than wait around on a phone call to be a presenter on Sky Sports F1 that will probably never come, because the job went to someone that you absolutely annihilated when you raced her by coming 1st and winning the World Title and she came 16th. Channel 4 have brought Alice Powell into the Channel 4 F1 presenters team. Alice, who is a British female driver who was 2nd in the W series and has 5 wins and 11 podiums to her name, which is obviously a FAR superior record to Naomi Schiff, and they were also racing against each other, which Alice always came out on top. Yet Sky Sports F1 passed up on her as well for another woman who is nowhere near the calibre of driver that either Jamie Chadwick or Alice Powell is, and although Alice is red haired and milk white, as all red/fair haired people are lol, but Jamie Chadwick who is the best driver of them all, is light brown skinned due to her Indian mother, so you would think that a British channel would want a British woman, and is also the best driver, and is even a big ✅ tick in the diversity box because she is a minority too, but NO, she is passed over for someone who is from another country and is nowhere near as good as her! Do you think Rwandan TV would hire Alice Powell with her milky white skin over Naomi Schiff? If you do think that, then you are an absolute fool! You should get a job on MERIT!!! and not because the colour of your skin will make it look like your diverse, but why not get a black female British driver? They are out there and have been passed over too. Sky Sports F1 channel and Sky Sports as a whole has became an absolute joke because of their diversity policy, and their product has suffered in the process. There are plenty of brilliant black, brown, white and every colour of people you can get, but they should be getting the job because they are the best person for the job, whatever colour they are, and like I said at the start of this book lol, people shouldn't be afraid to criticise people like Lewis Hamilton because of the fear of being called racist! It's way beyond a joke now, where you can't say what obviously really happened because one of the people in the incident is black. Lewis Hamilton is a great driver and certainly doesn't need to have an excuse made for him when their his mistakes and I don't think even Lewis Hamilton wants to live in a world where you can't tell the truth when a black person does something wrong, because that is definitely NOT equality!!!

Lewis got a fine of 50,000 euros, of which he needs to pay 25,000 now and the rest only if he repeats this offense. Obviously for most people this is a huge amount of money, but for Hamilton this hardly registers. His net value in 2023 is estimated to be around 250-300 million euros (if not more) and he will earn around 55 million euros this year. So this fine only represents 0.045 percent of his earnings this year. To compare with an someone with a nice salary of 50,000 euros, this would mean a fine of 22 euros. And that is not even fair, because if you have hundreds of millions on the bank, that 25,000 is even less of a ‘pain’ than that 22 euros for an average person is. I feel the fines should be in relationship to the income of the drivers. A big speeding ticket is over 200 euros on average, so in this case 250,000 euros would have been more suitable.

When I think about the guys who have the most titles in other categories like MotoGP, WRC, etc...They command a dominanting exuberance, a feeling that they would never make a rookie mistake, but in F1 we have Hamilton...Which is not a coincidence, it's all about a cost uncapped era where Mercedes had a huge head start in hybrid cars thanks to their factory effort, and blackmailed FIA (threatening to leave the sport with their huge money stash) to introduce hybrids as fast as possible even if the other teams are not prepared yet...The fact that they even lost to Max in the final year of the most embarrassing era of F1 is pathetic.

I have no idea why Hamilton crossed the track whilst the safety car was leading the cars. There was absolutely no reason for him to do it. Unless he was totally devastated about the crash and not thinking straight. Thank goodness nothing happened but what if it had? 8:00

What do you think of Russell ignoring team orders and taking Hamilton out? In Russell's post race interview, he admitted that the team wanted to let Hamilton pass to take advantage of the soft tires. In the race, when he saw Hamilton passing him, he moved out to block Hamilton. So much for Russell for proving that he is not a team player.

Never thought that I'd be guilty of the sort of comment that smacks of anti-fanboism: "They just don't deserve to be the dominant team in F1. Allegedly, The FiA are favouring them tor a consideration. The way they behaved to Sir Lewis and Mercedes and Ferrari and Aston Martin wasn't competitive, in or out of racing; it was unsportsmanlike, nasty, sneaky, underhand, super grass stuff, racist even; as well as cost cap busting, cheating, corrupting with USD $Multi-Billions from RedBull deep pockets, to brong into disrepute F1 as an alleged official race result fixing and blatant robbery, to smash the 8 year long Mercedes and Sir Lewis dominance of F1." RedBull's team principal Christian Horner and Austrian advisor Dr Helmut Marko are not at all nice people. They are living proof that some humans will do anything for money and an opportunity to behave as badly as possible and actually get people to like the the brand, even though they're friends with the guilty criminal who is the F1 franchise. ex-supremo.

@@A2906-o8q Sigh! If is more evident that support is forthcoming in as acknowledging the superior accomplishments of Sir Lewis in both McLaren and a Mercedes car, as much as Michael Schumacher in a Ferrari; not denying and attempting to destroy what is truly great and isn't yet over, because 'no fat lady is even on stage, let alone singing . . .'

Max Costcappen was nothing before Red Bull cheated developing the car they’re dominating with now. Don’t forget that. And don’t forget that Hamilton was robbed in Abu Dhabi on the last lab of the season, giving Costcappen the title!!
