Is that why he sat on the sidelines at Redbull for most of the last decade and rather than searching a new challenge he was content with it? Dont get me wrong, he made amazing cars, but it has been a long time since the success of a team can directly be linked to his impact on the car development. Listening to him speak, he exudes this - "I'm not a rock star" personality... "Perhaps I just have a feel for the behavior of the car" kind of attitude. Most importantly, unlike many in the field he doesn't think he is the smartest in the room ..... and likely is in most rooms he sits in. Huge respect for the man!

Doesnt mean he no longer has it in him, but surely it gives a little bit of a different perspective if the last time this guy designed a race winning F1 car is a decade ago or last season lol. I dont really understand why he gets celebrated for all those titles as well. Surely he had a significant impact, but at the end of the day the drivers drove the car to the win and especially back in the days the engine was often the key reason a team dominated (unless it was something that was gonna be banned next season lul) and not so much the other things. I feel like the groundeffect era is actually one of the first concepts in a long time where aerodynamics are more important than the engine, especially as the engines havent changed so much recently. 2026 will be a new story, but I think again mostly because of engine related things. What I love from the podcast is the questions. Mostly I know the guests and have heard them in other interviews saying the same things but here you make them think. Thanks.

Very interesting to hear Adrian's view of CAD. I worked with it back in the 90's and have seen new tools. It used to be very hard to do anything with a flow and art. What an amazing man

Yeah, I used CAD briefly in the early 00s as part of my mech eng apprenticeship. I found the drawing board more satisying. It sounds weird, but I felt like I understood what I was drawing more, compared to CAD

What an incredible interview. I'm a big fan of Newey. He's kind of like a modern day Marcus Aurelius. Humble, wise and worth listening to when it comes to navigating complicated tasks, has the right tools to make considered decisions, values which tools are important and which are actually more hinderances, etc etc. Great interview!

For everyone who thinks, "Yeah, yeah, yeah," this interview teaches the age-old lesson that nothing is free: the risk taken, the pain of mistakes, and, in Adrian's case, the responsibility taken are what separate the talkers from the acheivers. To Adrian, I really felt, and hope I understood your words. Wishing you the very best on your next chapter. 👌🏽

Absolutely fantastic interview and conversation! Thank you! Can't wait for what he and Aston Martin will be able to do together. Alonso has always been my favorite driver, so selfishly I'm hoping he can get him a couple more driver's championships before Alonso retires.

Fantastic interview!!! Adrian uses common sense in his approach to almost every aspect in his life and work. Too many people try to be the best and be fancy about it. Adrian just does it. Strengths and weaknesses, he knows his limits and doesn’t push beyond them. For the interviewers, it was nice to see you patiently wait and listen and not assume anything. On you tube and about F1, this was the most honest and direct no BS interview i have ever seen, keep the great work up. People may even learn something from it.

Tbh what team would he go to where he could challenge at the top? Ferrari is in Italy, merc are happy currently with their team, only other teams would be Williams and they don't have the funding to get to the top. Aston Martin was the only team left.

@@madbull4666 It was a joke to be fair. It's a good fit for Newey, in my opinion. Most importantly, in his opinion too.

Him Sketching at 48:42 basically explains why mercedes had such awful porpoising issues in 2022. Dirty air getting underneath the floor at high speeds becauser there were no sidepods to channel the air away

Only 15 minutes in I can almost see the glaze in Lawrence's eyes and interrupting Adrian to say "here's a blank check, fill it out please" I walk away with the proper perspective and respect Sir Adrian is due. He is a big brained dude with integrity. His comment on "never go to a team on top if you really want to challenge yourself" This is key to ladder climbing, for anyone in their 20's/30's. I worked for a manager who did just that who shared much wisdom with a 20's year old me and I followed his plan and was fortunate to retire at 57 and do what I wanted and enjoy waking up more every day a couple years into it. Retirement is overrated, you have to have stimuli and purpose. Adrian will be the wisest person in any room he enters. Damn though, if he wanted a challenge, really would've liked him go to my boys at HAAS ~

They gave eddie jordan the blank check. Big mistake 😂 Hes walking away with a decent chunk id imagine probably like 15-25 million. Maybe more. We all know that making $ is EJs specialty and he is neweys manager after all
@metalpiston12124 ай бұрын
Well he's in it for the challenge but obviously he wants a decent pay on top. Haas and williams simply cant afford him. While Mercedes and Ferrari have been consistently in the top 3 in the hybrid era.
