You can just see why he's been so successful. He's driven purely by challenge, once he's achieved the goal of being the best - he gets bored and wants a new challenge. Continual professional development, the keystone of an excellent engineer.

if you listen carefully you also hear him speak about the RB organization. That they "think they can do it on their own". In other words, his advice was being less valued and others wanted to give it a try on their own.

Is that why he sat on the sidelines at Redbull for most of the last decade and rather than searching a new challenge he was content with it? Dont get me wrong, he made amazing cars, but it has been a long time since the success of a team can directly be linked to his impact on the car development. I think he can surely improve the AM car, but they present it as "maybe the most important thing in F1 history" lmao..

It’s hard for someone like him in this salary cap era. Only way he could go to Aston is if they gave him some % of the team. Redbull couldn’t do that.

I was very lucky to meet Adrian Newey at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2008 or 2009 when I was studying Motorsports Performance and Engineering at college. Even amongst a crowd of easily 100-200 including celebs/drivers on the busiest day crowding round the Red Bull area (with Simon Cowell and his guards trying to push through us peasants), he took the time to talk to me for a few minutes about me, my course, the sport and current motorsports affairs. Even signed my Goodwood Programme. What a humble, legendary and pleasant chap. We need more people in the world like Mr. Newey!

The stand out for me is Adrian's character. As an engineer myself, I can truly appreciate what it means to be humble in the field ..... to the outside world it seems very complex but for those of us in it, it's humbling to know there is so much that we don't know. Listening to him speak, he exudes this - "I'm not a rock star" personality... "Perhaps I just have a feel for the behavior of the car" kind of attitude. Most importantly, unlike many in the field he doesn't think he is the smartest in the room ..... and likely is in most rooms he sits in. Huge respect for the man!

@@ATW.91 and its rather unsure how much impact he had on the winning car for verstappen. According to redbull he had a lot of nothing to do with the actual F1 car development. Doesnt mean he no longer has it in him, but surely it gives a little bit of a different perspective if the last time this guy designed a race winning F1 car is a decade ago or last season lol. I dont really understand why he gets celebrated for all those titles as well. Surely he had a significant impact, but at the end of the day the drivers drove the car to the win and especially back in the days the engine was often the key reason a team dominated (unless it was something that was gonna be banned next season lul) and not so much the other things. I feel like the groundeffect era is actually one of the first concepts in a long time where aerodynamics are more important than the engine, especially as the engines havent changed so much recently. 2026 will be a new story, but I think again mostly because of engine related things. But only time will tell.

Although speaking rather abstract, Newey talking about the rb19 gives so much insight to the recent downform of Red Bull. Like overreliance on simulation and data. The current issues red bull and vcarb are suffering from is over reliance on the wind tunnel data that don't correlate to track performance. That drawing board is extremely powerful in the current era of overreliance and assumptions on data. Newey has a foundational understanding of aero, something technology can't replace.

@@Thetache Truthfully there was quite a few mixed stuff going on from where we stand on the outside from our perspective, but on the inside it might be completely differnt how they operate, we have no idea. To say it was all Horner's fault is completely ignoring everything else that is also going on. Plus Newey even said he like's a challenge and he like's to join smaller/struggling teams and bring them up to the fight, Redbull have won 7 world championships and he may have felt it's simlpy time to move on for a new challenge.

Strengths and weaknesses, he knows his limits and doesn’t push beyond them. For the interviewers, it was nice to see you patiently wait and listen and not assume anything. Only 15 minutes in I can almost see the glaze in Lawrence's eyes and interrupting Adrian to say "here's a blank check, fill it out please" I walk away with the proper perspective and respect Sir Adrian is due. He is a big brained dude with integrity. His comment on "never go to a team on top if you really want to challenge yourself" This is key to ladder climbing, for anyone in their 20's/30's. I worked for a manager who did just that who shared much wisdom with a 20's year old me and I followed his plan and was fortunate to retire at 57 and do what I wanted and enjoy waking up more every day a couple years into it. Retirement is overrated, you have to have stimuli and purpose. Adrian will be the wisest person in any room he enters. Damn though, if he wanted a challenge, really would've liked him go to my boys at HAAS ~
