They had planned to also take Stirling Moss, but Fangio asked them to only take him because Moss was newly married and his wife would suffer a lot, and they accepted. For things like that, his rivals carried him around when he won, he was a gentleman in and out of the car.

The two main problems for the rookies are that the F1 fanbase is very fickle, and the media loves to ramp up certain narratives for sensationalism. The best thing they can do in early days is keep a low profile and maintain decent results. Have a Piastri-style mentality and you're safe, but if you're going to play to the gallery, that's a very slippery slope

I am genuinely worried about how Colapinto's fame had skyrocketed right now. I am happy by his success in F1 so far and I hope he continues that way. But it scares me how fast all this stuff had happened to this 21 year old guy. He was (almost) completely unknown 2 months ago, and now he is under the sights of virtually an entire continent. He went from being a (relatively) regular man to become a god-like figure for pretty much all the spanish-speaking audienceof on this planet.

21 years old is a good age, for example Antonelli, who just turned 18, already has a seat. Franco has matured a lot living alone on the other side of the world at 14 years old. He is an experienced driver, a rookie only in F1 like everyone when they arrive.

Don't worry about it. We always love our sportsmen. He will always be loved and respected in Argentina. Unfortunately a lot of countries don't know how to support people who make them happy even for a little bit during their struggles. We know how to work hard and how to help and supoort each other. So really, don't worry about it.

What a great video! Top notch, Kym! As outsiders and fans of the sports, we often just see all the glitz and glam. And sure, the drivers may make a lot of money doing what they do. But being scrutinized by everyone in F1 and millions of people around the world is not a simple thing to manage. You can't please everyone and the haters will get into your head if you don't have some thick skin. Thank you Kym for highlighting the flip side of the coin.

This is great stuff Kym. Very necessary education for lots of fans (especially the ones who are new to the sport). The proximity to the drivers the ticket affords makes people forget they are humans too and have good/bad/tough days. So, again, this is very important info for people to understand and respect drivers' boundaries. ❤

It annoys me how some people think they are entitled to a picture or autograph. Just on tiktok today myself and alot of others were arguing in the comments because they weren't happy that Lando didn't stop for the people waiting. One person was even saying how lando should stay there and sign something for every single person there even if it took over an hour which is crazy. A lot of people need to realise that they also have things to do and they stop when they can but they can't always do it.

Some people seem to forget drivers or not, they are just people like us with feelings and emotions. Everyone of us can screw up and even they do, while it is easy to judge from a distance, or on social media, most of us would crumble in their shoes with the pressure drivers have to face each day. There's a fine line between constructive criticism and outright toxicity!

I think if a driver says something stupid, then what they say and the context around it should determine what happens to them. Vips said the most widely known racial slur on the planet, and was in my opinion rightfully sacked. However, lets say for example Ollie bearman says he doesn't like chinese food, and that pisses off the entire population of china. sure, it would have been better if he didn't say it, but it would be really stupid if he got fired for it and had his whole career come to an end over it. context is necessary for stuff like this, as well as what is actually said

some f1 fans use words like "deserve" or "if" to play out a fictional scenario that's more to their liking thereby undermining a driver's achievements. or writing their conspiracy theories in a "factual" way to make it sounds like said driver should hand all their trophies over. stuff like that probably does the most damage to a drivers public perception

I think Vips situation was blown out to far IMO, yes what he said was not good, but he is also a kid from Estonia (and i assume English is his second or more language). The slur is something that originates from a foreign country and doesn't have the same historical issues as the USA, add to this that so much music and movies come from the US use this word a lot almost glorifying it. If he had used a slur from Australia that he didn't really know the true meaning from it, id be more inclined to pull him aside, educate him and go from there. Yuki didn't get fired for saying a slur, something that is probably universally known.
