Verstappen is on medium tyres, he doesnt need to look out for the tyres as much as Gasly on soft tyres

onboard they sound the best but when you hear them in real life all cars sound pretty much the same. You dont notice it as much as you do on the onboards

I think it's worth noting Max is on mediums and Gasy was on softs and still, max was better under braking and under acceleration.

Look at how quickly Verstappen gaps Gasly in catching up to the back of the Ferrari, despite being on harder tires. Also it's entertaining seeing everyone explanations why Gasly performed well in the STR13 but so poorly in the RB15...no one can actually make heads or tails of it.

Yes it was a combination of things. I think the team morale also hurt him too, it wasn't just him being uncomfortable with the car. But yeah, it was good for Gasly to atleast get some podiums and a shock win to show he has talent. He had a lot of negative media towards him during his red bull stint

Coming back to this vid 4 months later, it's amazing to see how much more confident he is in the Toro Rosso. Something in the RB didnt fit him. I think its how aggressive the RB is on gripping, which means there is only very minimal room to make errors in when accelerating. Im just speculating though. Good to know retrospectively that Gasly was never a bad driver(and well, because I kept telling people that he isnt bad), he just didnt have the car.

Pierre's driving style just didn't suit the car, he's way too aggressive and likes to thrash his car around, and the Red Bull didn't like that, resulting in understeer. He brakes later than Max but can't get on the power earlier because he has to make a tighter rotation angle on the steering wheel when going through the corner.

@@gerymcgee5086 thats literally not my point lol, i was using seb at red bull as an example that red bull still design their cars the same to this day and it’s not specially made for max. red bull have always built cars with better areo dynamics and take a hit on straight line speed. the car has always been designed to be stable and not lose it’s back end

It is interesting at 1:45 they tell gasly to switch to mode 6 and tell max to switch to mode 7. I'm not sure how big of a difference it makes but it seems they gave max more engine power at the start than the gave gasly.

Gasly doesn't take the curbs as blunt as Max does. He just drives around them like he's afraid to skid or something

Gasly has fundamental flaws with his driving. One obvious example is his racing line at 01:21. Brakes way too late and misses the apex. Can't hit the throttle until he is out of the corner and that means his exit speed is terrible. Just look at Vettels line and campare. Meanwhile Max brakes early, hits the apex and therefore he can be early on the throttle. Great exit speed, slipstream from Gasly and then it's over. Gasly tries too hard to chase the car infront. He looks like a rookie.

@MiXA28 not a single team designs a car to suit a certain driving style, this is an actual myth. Teams might tweak their car to suit a driver slightly better, but all in all they just design the fastest car they possibly can.

A lot of people seem to think Gasly’s style is smooth, buts it’s the opposite. While Max breaks earlier, Pierre prefers to brake much later and therefore understeered and then couldn’t get on the power soon enough, while Max can get take a much like and get on power earlier.

I actually like Verstappens driving more because his driving style is really aggressive. And you can sometimes visually see him fighting the limits of the car.

Seeing this in 2020 and people saying the instability of the car is what causes Albon's lack of pace and what probably affected Gasly just seems more false. Everytime u see an on-board of Albon in 2020 you see him constantly going opposite lock and fighting the car. In clips like this Gasly seems to be fine just doesn't seem to have the pace.

The thing is that the RB15 likes to be thrashed - which doesnt suit Gaslys driving style at all. I'm sure that he would be great in a Ferrari.

When you are in F1 and in one of the top team people have the right to expect the best of you. You can get polishid in F3, F2 and in an midfield team. When you are at the top you either make it or break it!

Well everything really, Verstappen is completely aggresive especialy in corner exit acceleration you can see that from his steering input, while Gasly tries to be smooth loosing time from everywhere and i think that explains why he wasnt able to pull of moves quickly enough to make up places and make his strategy work. Problem is that Gasly showed some pace with Verstappens set up in Silverstone and spent too many hours on the simulator but didnt really get anywhere . In Silverstone Verstappen was third easy and most probably second had it not been for Vettel crashing into him and Gasly would have ended up sixth. Germany well Verstappen won and Gasly was fighting against Albon for sixth. As for Hungary well he was just miserable he got lapped by Verstappen again and was behind Sainz fighting for sixth... again. Whats worse is that Germany and Hungary he was stuck behind cars good for best of the rest in a car capable of winning the race highlighting the fact that he cant use 100% while Max just drives the wheels off that car.

Dimitris it’s actually the complete opposite. Gasly is the aggressive one and the RB15 doesn’t match with his style.

Gasly ever heard of early braking? He constantly does like a Ricciardo late break into the corner. If he breaks earlier he can go on the throttle earlier for more speed on the straight. He so desperately wants to get closer to the car in front that he breaks late which yes brings him closer for then but on the straight the other cars have a massive speed advantage which lets them get away and results in better lap times for them. You should only late brake like this when there is a corner after the current corner or when actually overtaking someone in the corner. This is not a good way of closing a gap and if it was not for the car the others would ride away from Pierre.

@@ghsf1234 You don't have to be a true F1 driver to understand basic science and logic. Gasly knows this as well but tries so hard to get to the car in front that he does it by late braking because he lacks patience to do it the right way.

This probably could have been a Red Bull-Honda 1-2 Finish because Pierre had such a strong start in the first few laps. What happened, why wasn’t Pierre able to match Max’s performance? It was only until Brazil 2019 that we saw a Max Verstappen Pierre Gasly 1-2 Honda Finish

To put it simple, Gasly's aggressive driving style did not suit the nature of the RB15 and he didn't adapt to it. Hence why he was struggling from the first half of 2019.

The slower the speed the smaller the gap in distance (as long as the time gap is constant), similar to how when on the road if you're driving behind someone when they get to a speedbump you get very close, but then you have to slow down as well which allows them to get away and vice versa. This effect has a name.

his driving style is more aggressive than Max's, Pierre perfers to have a stable rear end as he likes to break later and get on the throttle more aggressive on corner exits. But the problem was, the RB15 had an unstable rear end when exiting a corner, and Gasly would oversteer almost everytime. There isn't anything wrong with his driving style, it's just that it didn't work with the Red Bull and he couldn't adapt to it.

This video shows a clear difference between Verstappen and Gasly’s driving styles: Verstappen is much more aggressive and Gasly is much smoother, and the Red Bull clearly favors a more aggressive driving style

It's actually the opposite, Pierre is the aggressive one and Max is the smoother one. Gasly breaks later than Verstappen and has to turn the wheel at a tighter angle, resulting in understeer. And not being able to get on the power early enough. And the RB15 had a 'twitchy rear end' as Gasly described it. Max usually likes to break earlier and sacrifices entry of a corner to carry more speed through the corner, letting him get on the power early and having better exit speed. Which is the complete opposite of Gasly's style. To put in straight, Pierre likes a responsive rear end end, aka a car with undsteer, and Max likes a responsive front end, aka a car with oversteer. The Red Bull RB15 didn't suit Gasly's driving style and that's why he struggled so much. Verstappen's driving style just suited the car better.

seams like he getting second fiddler .. he carries to much entres speed and runs the car to pointy .. where stappen runs wide on purposed holding the speed and backing his downforce for exit traction and it pulls mint off them corners

Steven Bowyer could be turbo. Could be gearbox as well I'm not really sure. I think they use different gears than on normal road cars (straight cut gears).

Well, I'll let you in on alittle something here: Pierre has a driving style that is more aggressive than Max's, Gasly perfers to have a stable rear end so he can break later and get on the throttle more aggressively on corner exits. But the problem was, the RB15 had an unstable rear end when exiting a corner, and Gasly would oversteer almost everytime. There isn't anything wrong with his driving style, it's just that it didn't work with the Red Bull and he couldn't adapt to it.

Pierre suis Max.....il semble tenir la cadence ; Ses trajectoires sont très clean je trouve, ça va super vite ; 01:04 rha fallait tenter, on a qu'une vie, c'était un bon moment pour attaquer la Ferrari ; Max est très agressif, et fluide aussi ; il prend plus de risques, au freinage....parfois il se loupe, et parfois ça paye ; il se donne à fond pour rester collé à la Ferrari je reste persuadé que les voitures sont identiques, et je n'adhère absolument pas à "la voiture est faite pour max..", c'est n'importe quoi ; cette RB est faite pour aller vite et pour être réglable sur tout les types de circuits, voilà ;

Non clairement la voiture est faite pour Max. Les ingénieurs l'ont dit. Les anciennes années ils ont mis une tendance vers verstappen et ça n'a pas plus a ricciardo. Sur la toro Rosso. Il y a beaucoup moins d'appuie ce qui fait que tu peux freinez dans les virages. Or la RedBull faut vraiment freinée et conduire la voiture dans le virage. Gasly irait très bien dans une Ferrari par exemple. Faudrait m'expliquer comment le mec te fait un miracle avec une Toro Rosso et galère avec une RedBull. Bah c'est simple, la voiture pose problème

This pretty much shows why Gasly got demoted ... Soft vs Medium ties should be a win for softs ... Gasly was in front and should have been able to be faster then Max, yet Max overtakes him again with ease and after that Gasly cant even keep up with the rest. Shame really

Not to mention that the harder compound is preferred at race starts. On paper they have less grip, but in practice its easier to manage temps, and they wear less, so they last longer, meanwhile soft starters use 2+1 lap old tyres (which is a huge chunk of their lifespan), and wear extremely quickly thanks to being a very soft compound + the weight of the cars.

But his driving style is actually more aggressive than Max's, Gasly perfers to have a stable rear end as he likes to break later and get on the throttle more aggressive on corner exits. This shows everything... Max is faster on a harder tyre. When the temps were low Gasly could keep up on his softs but that lasted only two rounds and then max was *gone*

What albon did in this year was far more better than gasly in last year, i knew toro rosso improved a lot in this year, but i can tell that albon look way more confidence when he goes wheel to wheel compared to gasly.

Yeah, that's why they fired both Gasly and Albon... They simply couldn't adapt to the loose rear-end of the car! Pérez is doing well in it so far (it has to be said that the 2022 RB has a completely different handling)

lol verstappens car accelerates much faster, i'm almost sure there is a policy of 1st and 2nd numbers in RB and naive Gasly didn't play his role good. So this is the reason why RB prefered Albon to Kvyat. Daniil would fight and talk too much.

1. Cars are the same, setups maybe different, but there are rumors Gasly engineers just took Max's setup because Gasly doesn't know how to get it wright. People that think they give the #2 driver a lesser car are extreme idiots. 2. I don't think you understand what RB is doing. They now know how Kvyat and Gasly preform in the top team, for the remaining races they want to see Albon. It's all about the 2020 #2 seat. I think Kvyat still has the best papers for 2020. It all depends on Albon and the up coming races. If Albon preforms well and gives RB a shot to be #2 in the constructor championship, it's gonna be a hard decision for them (Kvyat or Albon). Note: insiders say this, it's not coming from me, although to me it's very obvious what they are doing... They just want to see who's the best driver next to Max. They fully wanna go for the 2020 championship, Honda etc all stated that's what they aim for.
