It's good to see and hear Jodi again. The clutch explanation was interesting. Looks like a motorcycle clutch.

I bet Lewis is devastated that he's going to be driving a car next year that doesn't have Petronas fluid in it, losing out on all the benefits which where so clearly presented in this ad

Best video of the series. Nicely technical. Personally I would cut out all the cut away shots it's very distracting. How does the regen braking work?

The clutch - the beast tamer

You should have finished explaining how the driver activates the clutch. When the driver downshifts does the clutch disengage for the length of time he holds the paddle or is it preset by a computer for down shifts? And how does the launch procedure work?

i believe there is a slight correction... you would be CLOSING the DRS when downshifting (I imagine you would want to upshift while going faster with open DRS). Great video and very high quality series -- thank you for this window into F1 mechanisms and fluid use. Would these fluids work in a road car as a way of combining the fluid systems, or is it too specialized?
@MSFSFreeware11 сағат бұрын
Don't forget that in practice and qualifying the DRS can be opened anywhere. If you are leaving a corner you might want to open it so you can accelerate as quickly as possible.
@michaelpurnell95269 сағат бұрын
@@MSFSFreeware even in practice and quali you are only allowed to use the DRS is designed DRS zones. The original commenter is right, I don’t think there would ever be a time when the driver would OPEN the DRS at the same time they are DOWNshifting. They might however open the DRS while UPSHIFTING. I think the guy in the video just misspoke.
@Neil3D9 сағат бұрын
There's every chance the DRS is designed to auto-close when downshifting, it closes when the brake pedal is activated and a downshift has a similar impact on the car, having the DRS open whilst decelerating makes the car highly unstable and dangerous... which is exactly what happened to Marcus Ericsson in his Sauber in 2018 at the Italian GP, the DRS failed to close on braking which sent him into the barrier and doing multiple flips, he was very very lucky to walk away from it.
