Great how Ross explained that Michael Schumacher is highly responsible for the sucess of Mercedes today! Even if at that high age Schumacher was of course not as fast as he used to be, but he still had that element of perfection to Build up a dominating team in F1! Schumacher was the best, just incredible that man!

Agree. People do not understand, what a big part Michael plays in the the success of Mercedes. Michael came back well knowing, that the car is not only far from competitive, but also not fitting his way of driving. And they had no plan to fit it on his driving style, but to Nicos. And still, he was dedicated as always and contributed his time and knowledge. Also, what most people dont know at all is, that the accident he had while motorcycling was heavy. The biggest accident in his driving carreer. He broke one cervical vertebra and ruptured a head vein. He had a hard time recovering and still was keen to come back. But, after this severe injury he wasnt able to drive at the limit anymore, as he used to do. And he never talked about the injurys he suffered from. This also describes him. He didnt put this in spotlight, as he didnt asked for excuses.

@@leampunkt3678 Also there were issue with different cars than he was used to. Micheal used slight rotation of rear-end within the corners in 1st carrier. But in 2nd carrier in Mercedes he was not able to do it, because of different cars. That rotation can be done with cars with strong front-end, but F1 cars from 2008 or 2009 era had quite a weak front-end and weak grip. So, he actually lost his competition advantage. Same like Alonso in 2005 and 2006 where he could oversteer into understeer due to superb Michelin tires. After that era, he also lost his advantage.

Q: You were with Michael for 21 years when was he at his peak? RB: We were dominant, but he won races we shouldn't have won. He was impressive to watch. His consistency, his speed and his work ethic. That was pretty special period. When you talk about a peak you talk about a guy who was at the pinnacle for the most of that time. You are comparing extremely high level of performance in all the years. In 94 when he won his first championship, he was incredible. We had very good car, but he was just exceptional. I think its difficult to define a peak because he flat-lined in a sense, but flat-line that was so high that it is difficult to pick out. I think that's the thing that impresses me most about Michael.

He worked incredibly hard. In 2003, I went to a Bridgestone test at Silverstone. Ferrari and several other teams were there. Track was open 09:30 - 17:00 (doctor, emergency services etc on call during that time). All the teams except Ferrari packed up at 17:00 and went home. Michael, Luca Badoer and Ferrari didn't leave until 22:00.

Michael is my hero! So much so that those words were the beginning of my final speech to an adult German course that I took! I wrote a piece, in German, describing what an awesome Formula 1 driver Michael was. Nobody in the class was a Formula 1 fan, but I think a few of them are now because of my touching speech! I drove 500 kilometers, from Toronto to Montreal, to the 2004 Canadian Grand Prix. Michael qualified 6th and my friend asked me who would win. Of course, I said Michael and he said to me "no way could he win from there". Michael didn't disappoint me and my friend was astonished and asked me how I knew. We all know the answer - we're talking about the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time), Michael Schumacher!

I agree. 1997, '98, '99 were years he should've won. What makes it even more exceptional is that, Ferrari was a tin can those days! This period of F1 is why Michael has 85% of DNFs due to engine failure versus say, Lewis' 56%. Michael made the impossible, possible.

I grew up with formula one, born in 1999 and watching Michael race every Sunday since I can remember. He always was, still is and will always be my greatest hero. I don't even know how to describe how it felt to watch him win races nobody else could ever win. I've talked to someone much younger a few days ago who didn't know anything about f1 and only watched the last race of 2018. He said "I've heard these stories about that Schumacher guy, did you ever see him race? Did he really do all these things they say about him?" And I told him, smiling but nearly in tears at the same time, that everything he heard about this man was totally true and that he really is that living legend, that great man and godlike driver. Michael, we miss you. You always showed us how good you are at strong comebacks, so please show us one more time that nothing can stop you from winning. We love you legend. You are our hero and whatever happens, you will never be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichael

Brawn clearly says if MS was in the 1996 benetton car, the championship was there's again and everyone knows that the benetton was the second best car in 1996. So with that we all know that in 1994 and 1995 benetton was still the second best car. MS was a miracle worker. Like to see any LH fan boys tries to argue against Ross brawn. They all try to convince everyone that MS won 7 championships with the best car when its clear as day that 4 of the championships he didn't have the best car.

Yeah and majority of his career, Hamilton had a top car. Whereas Michael dragged ferrari to wins against the Williams of damon hill and jacques Villenueve. What makes it more astonishing is driving on slicks in Spain in 1996 and also when he came back from his broken leg injury to take pole in uis first race back in 1999. LH had luck to have been in a top car whereas MSC built ferrari into a top team and also built mercedes. Without MSC and Ross Brawn Mercedes would not have been as successful as they are now.

He always extracted the most from a difficult car, namely in 1996 and 2005. Some of his qualifying laps like in '05 were absolutely on the edge, he was trying so hard. It wasn't just the tyres that hampered the F2005, the aero regulations that restricted the rear diffuser size compromised their downforce and gearbox packaging.

I think when Michael changed from his old white-and-blue helmet design to solid Ferrari red, it was also rather symbolic of driver, car and team coming together to form a cohesive unit with synergy unmatched by any other team at the time to create that era of near-untouchable dominance in the early 2000's.

Nick exactly and everyone uses the argument Lewis could’ve been a 8 WC’s but at the end of the day whoever has the most points at the end of a championship end of.

In my humble op ion the best formula one driver of all time. Their may be other drivers that may even beat Michael's 7 world championships but they will never hold a place in their hearts like Mr Shumacher does , I hope too see this fella out and about again at some point sooner rather than latter

As much as I loved watching Michael and now hearing more insights into Michael, I do think this has been a lost opportunity to dive far deeper into and learning much much more about the genius that is Ross Brawn.

Even when Schuey was dominating the races were still thoroughly exciting. Watching Mercedes today is like watching grass grow. The rules are to blame. Shame.

Interesting to learn that Michael had to do some work outside of the car in the middle of 1996 to get the team shake up Ferrari needed. I don't know if Alonso or Vettel have put in that kind of work at Ferrari.

I just hope in some time, rather sooner than later, we can hear such an interview with Michael himself... I know it may be highly unlikely, dependant on what you believe how his health status is... but when this day should come, I will be a very, very happy man.
